Also though..."Because you were home" is just more personal than "because you're here". Home...that is your safe space. No matter how you use it. You can avoid a "here" if the "here" is a weird B and B. You can't avoid home.

If studios are thinking about making one of these "fluff trilogies", you should at least convert it into a 6 or 12 episodic series (ala Netflix). This way you can flesh everyone out and build up suspense, which would hopefully be an improvement.

I almost wanted The Strangers (2008) to end with James’s and/or his family being the Strangers. It probably wouldn’t have ended with as much of the impact with random people just deciding to kill them, but at the same time, with how James acts throughout the film, it would have lined up a pretty good twist and made those decisions he made make sense.

the first strangers truly scared me and there is a painting in my room that is slightly shaped like a head and in the dark it looks like a head, after i watched the strangers i woke up in the middle of the night and saw that painting and it scared the life out of me. That shows how that movie really is affective and how it is a huge beam of realism in a time of haunted house movies which are more mystical and unrealistic. and with its huge similarities to the murder of Sharon Tate done by the Manson Family and the Keddie Cabin Murders (which is a lesser known inspiration for the film) it really makes it feel more gorunded in realism.

I haven’t seen the film, but I have seen the trailer. I think the shower scene in itself could be a good moment if it were executed differently. If she’s in the shower washing her hair and bag head walks by the door I’ve had times where I’m in the shower and I get a strange feeling cause it’s a vulnerable position. I get what they were going for, the execution was just ugh.

I’ve found that there are 2 types of Strangers fans: those two loved the 2008 movie, and those who loved Prey at Night. I’m definitely the former, though I didn’t dislike Prey at Night. What made the original so enjoyable was the extreme tension and creep factor (at the time), which for me, Prey at Night, largely lacked and replaced with more action. As a result, Prey is a respectable move and enjoyable, but not superior to the 2008 movie.

All hail the Haunted Hips…er Hippie! 🤘🏼 I always thought the Strangers was inspired by the French/Romanian film (Ils). I always thought the premise worked better jn Europe because firearms aren’t a thing as opposed to the US where all the smart remote campers I know are packing something to ward off threatening wild animals. I liked the Liv Tyler version except the Strangers had to be some kind of green berets because they nearly avoided every single trap to the groans of the audience.

I think my 2 main negatives thoughts on this film are : 1) The characters are just too happy for me to care about , let me explain lol. In the OG , we got a couple with real issues that kept you wondering if they would care for each other in that situation and in Prey at night, we had an incredible dysfunctional family with real issues, especially with the girl teenage so why not having the strangers franchise with characters facing real issues you know like why didn’t this film have a single mom / dad or a step mother with her stepson or two sisters that don’t get along , you know ? Lol cause the synopsis are basic so why not making things spicy 2) they made the strangers too dirty here , they are not this dumb . The Baghead from the og and prey at night would have not let them live after an attack . Overall , I felt betrayed cause this was literally marketed as “learn how the strangers became the strangers” girl I’m still waiting to see that lol Thank youuu for the shoutout sis 🩷

To start with I think you hit on an important point. Even when watching movies at home, the setting, time on day, TV and sound system and even the present mood you’re in. For me it’s even going to the movie. Sometimes I just don’t feel like sitting there for two hours. But when you get things right it’s so much better. 👍🙂 Lucky me I have a real nice 4k Atmos system and I have to say since following Haunted Hippie movies are even more enjoyable. Also a fan of music. It’s the same thing to have everything setup right. I know with music the first time I listen to it is not the greatest. I follow Billie Eilish too and her new album the second time was much better with the right atmosphere. I enjoyed your comparison of the two shows. I have not seen the new one yet, I may wait to rent it since I have not heard great things about it. Why oh why when they make a remake that they don’t go all out instead of they play it safe. 🤨

Thanks for your review. :) I actually didn't know the orginal or didn't really know anything about the actors. I think these kinda movies i like to "go in fresh". So i was rather shocked to see how bad some of the reviews are. Interesting the chemistry between the couple seemed a tad wooden, especially from the guy. (I actually thought he maybe in on what was going to happen at first and setting her up as the sole victim the chemistry felt that off... but his sexual preference in real life may indeed subconciously be the reason.) Did i really care for either of them. No not really. But was i feeling uncomfortable and anxious for them? TICK Will I watch chapter 2? For more back story, yes.. So yeah i'd be interested to know what other ppl also think like me who know little about the original. 3 out of 5

Hey Hippie, excellent video I loved the summary. But naah Prey at Night was still bad. That movie was super predictable. It felt like an amateurish attempt at horror. But then again, the new one fits that description. It's time to admit that The Strangers just isn't so interesting that it warrants a sequel. There just isn't much to the original to warrant a franchise - no deep lore, not enough iconic things to it, nothing.

I haven’t seen the og in a long time and I appreciate your honest take on it. I think it was good for its time but horror has evolved since then to something more interesting so it’s not quite as good looking back I think. Also liv Tyler only speaks in whispers hahaha I swear she talks like that every movie she’s in! Even though I didn’t go see the new movie, I heard that the main guy character has the same name as me lol that always takes me out of the movie, like the characters are really talking to me or hearing my name so much. I honestly agree with you that the twist that will be revealed in the sequels is that the town folk are in cahoots with the strangers. Tbh I’m not hopeful for the “trilogy” cuz if its gonna copy the original like the new exorcist did, I don’t need the same movie over again then doing sequels that alienate the audience. Not everything has to be a trilogy. Why is this the thing now? Halloween 2018 would've been fine had they gone with their original ending and stopped. They got greedy and now here we are...with a fan base super angry about how it ended. They didn't plan the trilogy until it made bank and then they back peddled when they said it wasn't ever supposed to be on the same night (it was) to give us what most will call a shit show of an ending with an unnecessary time jump. And in the same vein of greedy we've gotten The Exorcist Believer, which obviously didn't work. Now this and this wasnt needed. Even with Scream, they are saying its a new trilogy. Scream is in my top 3 franchises and even that seems tiring to me because we are running out of steam on how to make this believable using the same characters. No one is that damn unlucky to have different people chase them their whole life. The only trilogy that has worked and I believe will finish on a high note is the X, Pearl, Maxxxine trilogy. Why? Because it was planned and thought out. If Maxxxine iis terrible I will lose my mind, lol. Also...this was more of a rant than I intended...😬

I always really liked it, I love the suspense and it's well crafted, but I always say that the cat and mouse game drags out too long and yes it does eventually get repetitive.. and yes the main characters can be frustrating and "dumb" at times, but I can argue that's just some good old-school horror, or maybe I'm just giving them too much credit lol.. the pros outweigh the cons for me personally.. and I think Liv does fine, she's a solid actor IMO, no Frances McDormand, but she's fine but I'm biased and been rocking with her since I was like 10, but I personally think the softer voice works with the vibe of the film.. As for the new one, all I can say now is that I was optimistic when I first heard about it, but my expectations lowered after seeing the trailer.. maybe they should've just made a The Strangers 3 and actually made it a trilogy instead of just rebooting the whole thing.. but I've always felt like "Dollface" was interesting enough to where maybe she could have potential to become a character to really explore.. I'd personally like to find out more about her because she definitely has more personality than the other "strangers".. maybe they'll go in that direction in this new trilogy, who knows..

I haven't watched the new one because I've heard of the lazy assed copying but I really dig the original. Another stellar review Kylie.

i definitely don’t think the original is a masterpiece but i do like it and find effective. i do agree that the original characters are dumb, they just feel like real people to me, with better acting imo. the new characters feel very fake and cw to me.

First video I have seen a while , enjoyed your insights. But I have to strongly disagree the couple in this film was a lot dumber . How is the woman not going to notice a guy watching her showering ? The doors were transparent 😂, does she not turn around when showing I know I move all round when I do . My opinions on this film were very low , and they got even worse after I saw the producers bashing prey at night .

The movie is literally a PEGI-13 Netflix adaptation of the first one, 2 hours wasted.

Wait, you don't like reading amateur essays unless it's in a video? Interesting, because I personally don't care about the medium of the essay. Then again I am not as film focused as you are.

It was as scary as 1978 Halloween. very UN-scary. nothing happens in halloween but a few people get choked out (the latest reboot cant even get that right "michael myers killed 3 people in 1978." ummm, they forgot the tow truck driver who he killed to get his matching pant suit?? they even show him in the weeds after loomis scopes it out) and Don Pleasance upsells mikey so much that he simply cant live up to being that evil. "pure evil" wouldve killed anyone he ran into but no, he just dcks around between two random houses for an hour and a half. even the producer told johnny carpenter it sucked to his face when he showed her the final cut without any sound. music was great but not that great to sell it. im amazed at how and why people are scared of that movie. these are the people that are terrified of wolf "ass" creek and The Strangers, which is also a technique you do with your hand?? real life and other movies are scarier. these simply aren't. halloween 2 (even with its 10 billion sub plots) and 4 were mad good though. 3 was ok. halloween also failed because it took 47 actors to play mikey. 13 year old, 23 year old, the shape (wtf is that?? how can the same actor NOT play both??) , the square, the cool jerk, the slug, headcheese, wilt chamberlain, etc. Not ONE other slasher movie needed all that for the killer.

The marketing was strange, I thought this was like a prequel to The Strangers because it was called Chapter 1, but it’s called chapter 1 because there’s gonna be two other movies coming out connected to this

I haven't seen the new Strangers movie or even the initial sequel "Prey At Night" but the first Strangers movie from 2008 is without a doubt, one of the best horror movies of the last 25 years. Period. Those trailers that Universal made to promote the 2008 movie were horrible and spoiled too many things in that movie. I saw the 2008 original without seeing a single trailer and I was absolutely blown away by how great it was. It really is underrated and I firmly believe Universal's horrible marketing had a lot to do with that.

Check out Prey at Night, it's not as slow burning but it's pretty good and better than chapter 1 by the sound of things. I actually prefer Prey at Night to the OG but enjoyed both 👍💜🐾😊

@@77Creation If you saw the trailers and poster before seeing it and/or didn't see it in a theater then it would not surprise me if it didn't have the same effect as it did on me. When I saw the marketing after I saw the movie, I was really gutted to see how much of a disservice it did to movie.
