I could not agree more! I despise how men are put down in modern fiction and that women are made to seem emotionless and can beat up men twice their size, like come on?

That fact that writers are incapable of writing strong females without making men look stupid and weak is also a point within itself. If you can’t make someone be impressive without the rest of the world being a failure, then you’re doing it wrong

I love this video! As a 19 year old woman, these “strong female leads” are the characters I have always felt the LEAST represented by. And it’s even more upsetting that directors, writers, and often times the actors themselves, claim that women like myself don’t feel represented by these characters bc of “internalized misogyny” or bc we’ve fallen for “patriarchal bs” when really it’s just bc these characters are so unrealistic. I can be a “strong woman” and not hate men!

This could not have been said any better, agree with everything stated. As a woman, I cannot tell you how many times I’ve been told by other women that I should be “ashamed” to be a woman because I have these views lol. All this hate on men is getting old.

Definitely agree with you I cant stand a lot of the movie women today. The part where you said the strong women who like men and work with them and don’t think they are better then them is so true. They are actually strong women characters

As a female author, the flat strong female character is extremely annoying. And I am saying this as a woman writer who publishes at a small house owned by a woman haha Flat lead characters are not entertaining, end of story.

Thank you for this! As I work on my high fantasy world that will house series set over various times and cultures, it helps to be reminded that we (women) are only human. I think that bearing these opinions in mind as I write will help me create even better characters and more dramatic scenes, especially when I challenge myself to remove plot armor from the equation.

I love this video! 😄 My favorite characters as a kid were Mulan and Cinderella, disappointed with the live action Mulan though. They were actually good written characters, we need to go back to that time.

What is lacking is proper character development because AI is helping write these plots and corporations have also abandoned their core values and focus on making money. The strong female character is unrealistic and doesn’t reflect on most women.

Same. I appreciate what is said at the end about not creating "strong female characters" but in creating a strong character that happens to be female. I also think it is the same about men nowadays that are written by liberal women where they are all dark and brooding, and also ignore the main female character for practically half the book or show and is suddenly interested only after some other guy has taken interest. Men and women have either turned into Mary Sue's or Gary Stu's. Can't wait to see more content, maybe talk about how men have been turned into either the brooding, bad boy character, or a weak fool that is always doing something dumb.

Absolutely spot on! I would argue though, that the Rings of Power isn't entirely bad, but I am critical of Galadriel's portrayal anyway 😅

Didn't like chani in Dune movies. Overall, somewhat disappointed whenever they strayed from the book. No talking baby? Seriously?

Not a huge fan of corporate feminism, but I strongly disagree with Chani from Dune Part II. I feel she was behaving quite reasonably. She knew the Bene Gesserit had manufactured a false prophecy and that some among her people were becoming obsessed with Paul as though he were the god of this fake prophecy. And even then, she didn't hold it against Paul. She loved Paul the person, and only left him when he willingly became Lisan al Ghaib and introduced the galaxy at large to a lovely little thing called Islam.

Should have put "modern" in the title. I was about to rain on your parade when you mentioned ripley and the others. The title is just a bit misleading. I would argue that Daenerys from Got was a great character as well, at least up until the end of season 7. Season 8 was an all around shitshow, not giving justice to the otherwise great show. But Daenerys certainly took the biggest brunt of the fall. But i wholeheartedly agree. It's sad that there are so few good new female leads nowadays.
