What a job this turned into. What you think would be a relatively simple instal turned into an aggravating ordeal. But, its hooked up now and ready to go to work…

You need to know the shop vacuum trick! Tape the end of a shop vac hose to the filler neck of your hydraulic tank and turn on the vacuum. When you take hydraulic fittings off you wont get hardly any oil running out.

Man you stuck it out and kept a good attitude. So welcome to forestry mulching. This is how it is. And it is expensive lol. A little pointer like with that tree you mulched. I like to keep the timber standing and mulch it to the ground. That way you dont have to chase as much with your head on the ground. Keeps you out of the rocks and stuff more. With it standing the tree holds itself in place for you to mulch it. I hope you enjoy it and it works well for you. Great message again! Can’t wait for the mulching vids!!

You bet. You will have a lot of fun with it. Not sure if these are as bad about debris as the skids are but I’d keep a leaf blower handy to keep machine blown out of flammable debris every couple hours. And when I wash my machine out I like to spray the radiator and coolers with purple power, let them soak, and then spray them out with water. Cleanliness and and lower temps are key. And I’ve found that not trying to rush and working smooth consistent speed helps. Some times it get aggravating and I get to wanting to just smash through it but it’s better on my Machine and the work looks better when I take my time. I’m sure you’re gonna figure it out quick, and probably know all this, but just wanted pass on what’s helped me. I haven’t ran one on an excavator yet but the skid is fairly similar. Hope some of this can be beneficial.

I learned when building my first tool that giving yourself a little bit of side room is good on these pin grabbers, they hold tight so I'm not worried about it slamming side to side anyways. @@tristardiggin Honest story, Everyone from Tennessee wants to come to Florida to escape the cold, and everyone from Florida wants to move to Tennessee to escape the unrelenting heat and humidity. It has been estimated that up to 60 percent of people like us end up moving back to around Tennessee, or North Carolina after two to three years. They are call halfbacks by Floridians! We could have kept the house here but decided to not have to deal with two homes. Two or three months would not be bad, but be prepared the cost of living here is way higher than your stomping grounds. We currently pay 40 to 50 cents more per gallon for gas than you do. Thanks for the quick response, Sam. I read that the max no-load flow on the Cat 308 is about 33.8 gallons per minute. Yeah, I could hear that mulcher humming! The Prinoth site lists the working flow for the M450e-900 at 16-29 gallons per minute. Doesn’t Davin from Idigit4 run his mulcher at 20 gallons per minute? And I’m impressed every time he uses it.

He told me what the flow on the Kubota was but I can't remember. I think we figured I would be running around 11 more gpm. And I agree his mulcher does a fantastic job. My flow settings run from 1 thru 15. So, I'm think each number is a little over 2 gallon per minute. I believe I will start out at level 10 which should be around 23 or so gpm. I would really like to have a flow meter to test it.

Just now watching this one. The main fittings on the pumps and drive motors on the dozers is like that. I think they make them in about 3 different flange thickness having to do with how much pressure it's rated for.

I'm watching your video of 8 months and I have one suggestion for you put a mechanical inline shutoff above your fittings so when you catch a hose and it breaks off your able to shut down the hydraulics and are able to track out of Wherever You Are so you can fix it. Ask me how I know about this FYI the ones with the handles on them the handles usually fall off so try to find one that you can use a crescent wrench on just my suggestion hope helps you out

I’ve got a FX26 Brush Hound made by Valley Tool. It’s on the heavy side for the the 304, so a part of the learning curve is balancing out the flow so there is enough power to pick up the boom. It handles it alright though. I haven’t gotten to use it as much as I would like, but such is life.

I hate to say it but I don't think those quick connects you used are rated for the flow that mulcher needs... it may work but you'll likely lose performance and recovery speed. I believe you may need the larger quick connects with the screw sleeves Eta: I think the hammer setting should work for your mulcher too

I'm not to familiar with that brand of mulcher head but if their motors are anything like the Fecons, take a look to see if it has a split motor or solid piece. The split design usually has a main bearing seal that fails a lot when the motor speed dogs down frequently. And the solid design usually has a pressure release valve that fails. Both styles are intended to save the motor from damage but will drain your hydraulic tank in a hurry if you don't catch it right away.

Just started out word of mouth mostly. You could try Facebook ads, yard signs, talking with other contractors like the concrete guys and plumbers. I use to go to the mini barn and shed businesses and leave cards for land clearing and small pads. I paid the person who referred me $25 for every job they sent me. Basically just talking to folks and getting to know people in similar work. Hope that helps some. Eventually word of mouth and repeat customers will kick in…

Mulcher worked great but the 308 struggled a little tracking around while the mulcher was on. I have since sold the 308 and the mulcher. If you plan to mulch a good bit I would get a machine like the CAT 309 or equivalent that has an independent hydraulic pump for the mulcher. Davin on Idigit 4 runs the same mulching head on his Kubota and it works great too. Diggin Life 21 has a 309 and runs a mulcher and Brushcutter on it and says it was great… Thanks, Sam
