The time has come for some E85 goodness! For reasons I am not filming the tuning pulls as Mexico is such a far drive from us, my cameras just can't stay charged long enough. HOWEVER! We're making some good power and we accurately know the weight of the car. (Updated power numbers in the video). I LOVE IWIRE!!! I installed their AEM wideband kit on my 2019 STI and it talks to my accessport allowing the tuner to get me on E85 with bigger turbo. You went the right route on the iwire bro! I'm lucky, I can get E85 from VP Racing Fuels 5 minutes from my house. Ft. Hood doesn't stock it, otherwise I would get it from there. AAFES doesn't carry it here for some reason. I'm retired Air Force btw. My E85 is $2.71 a gallon in Texas. I usually just swap caps between my VP racing cans so I don't have to screw in the threads every time.

Pump ethanol can vary drastically throughout the year. I have seen as low as e68 and as high as e81 unfortunately never full e85

I’ve been getting e81 pretty consistently. I even mixed 4gallons of 87 in and wound up settling at e61.

Yeah just depends on your area. Here in Arizona you can find places that have e85-e88 almost guaranteed. I've seen stuff over e92, but they can get in trouble and fined for running higher ethanol than e85. E65-e85 has almost identical octane and doesn't matter much unless your really running on the edge.

That's the struggle with running e85 only. Flex-fuel is the way to go, a tuning company uses x98 to tune for ethanol and then pure 93 for the pump. Then you have the flex sensor figure out the ethanol content it wants. Pump ethanol will vary from e50 to e85 and you know that not many cars fill up on ethanol anymore. It's hard man

We're using flex, but for tuning purposes E70 is the ideal.moxture for what we want to tune with. 🙏

Struggling with percentages is one thing, having to drive an hour to buy fuel is whole another thing. This is one reason I've been so reluctant to convert to E85 and that is finding the stuff in the first place. I finally found a location by accident...that is 45 minutes away. They tell me there is a couple stations around town but I haven't mapped them out yet. i need to, I'm about to go E85 on my GTR. I'm not sure about my WRX, its more my daily driver now and try to keep it as reliable as possible. Still, I may do it just to cut down on emissions when I finally have to start having it tested.

Definitely suggest snagging fuel containers to be able to store as much as you can. Becomes a real PIA when you need to fill up but the station is far

Gotta burn that tank down to 1/8th or lower. Then fill her up e85. Possible that station got a low batch from gas company. E60-e70. Seasonal changes as well. Each state is different. Get that 55 gallon drum. When you get e80 fill her up! Love the work Man

That's interesting to note about the engine break-in process requiring load. For years now whenever I got a new Subaru (2011 WRX and 2013 BRZ) people would debate on break-in procedure. Some people would baby their engines while others would just send it. I'm one of those who'd just send it and I never had any engine-related issues, especially where oil consumption is concerned. However, on the forums, especially NASIOC and any subject about oil consumption, people who have had oil consumption issues always admit to babying the engine from Day 1. I think a lot of that comes from inaccurate dealership information. The car should be driven how you'd normally drive it, especially with highway merging and such. I'm still unsure about how frequently one should change their oil with a factory-new engine. I think with my 2011 WRX I changed it at 500 miles, then 1k, then every 3k after that. The BRZ was probably whatever the manual recommended. And the 17 Impreza was purchased in Kent, WA, and driven through Canada back to Alaska, so you know it didn't get an oil change until at least 3k miles. lol Anyway, just thinking aloud. Thanks for sharing your struggles with E85!

Interesting comparison, I use to be one to alqays baby the engine but after going through those classeses it makes sense why you'd put load on it. Although the first 50 miles I won't send it @29 PSI 😅 but definitely helps the rings to seat against the cylinders

I was having that same “issue” with my ethanol content not reading over 60 range! Many many tanks later and that shit still only shows e79. I’ve never witnessed the 85% magic number. also I’ll never complain again. E85 here is 2.79/gal 🥲

there is a separate drain plug on each saddle on the underside if you want to go that route, its covered up with the undercoating, just a bump ( iirc )

With the saddle type fuel tanks you need to get them down to under a 1/4 left (even lower is better) in the tank before emptying via return into containers. Keep it running till it runs out of fuel. You should be right to then fill with E85 and have very little to no pump gas mixing with it

you need to buy little ethanol content measuring tube, I check my station ethanol couple time a year, here in PA, summer time I get good e80-85 out of the pump in the summer and e70-75 in the winter, but still nice to know whats coming out of the pump couple times a year, you will be surprised. good stuff

If you are getting low "e" numbers then the station where you are buying the fuel from is cutting it with crap gas. There are very vague regulations regarding the "e" quantity. Where I am it's anywhere between e55 and e85. Been there!

Fb marketplace has lots of used oil barrels. I have 2 55, 2 30, and i use an ethanol safe pump that plugs into the wall. Make the 90 mile trip to lake charles every few months.

@@Smeedia Yessir! And my setup makes 485whp (592hp) and 480lbftq with a custom TD06 turbo at stock location @21psi, TMIC setup, water/meth injection on 91 Octane... I reach max boost at 4495rpm and holds boost all the way to 7790rpm... The engine is fully forged/balanced/ported/polished with all imaginable support mods around it. Very responsive yet tame setup built for street/accel/handling/light track use. Very fun car! (It's a GR sedan)

Josh did a quick video where he took an old fuel pump dropped it in the pump side of the fuel tank connected to 12 volt battery and pumped the gas out. You can then open up the saddle side and do the same. Then if you start up the car with the return hose setup you should be able to get damn near all of it out to get you that 🚕✨🌽 I don't know why you made so many trips and filled up so many gas jugs when you could have just parked closer to Matt's SRT an extended that hose ⛽🤣

@@Smeedia Well, it took about 3 years for them to approve this gas station and it's almost ready to open up. I'm hoping I get my silver version of Karma back to health and tuned by then. Turns out the problem I had was a bad fuel regulator. New AeroMotive FPR for $200 on overnight delivery arrives tomorrow morning at the shop for installation. Perrin regulator diaphragm gave out.

See if you can find E85 R race fuel, it is 85%. You can get 5 gallon cans to get your average up for the tune.

I'm currently using 4/5 month old e85 from when my motor blew in April. Still reading e80 and didn't have any water in it when i tested it. I've found mixed reviews on either people chucking e after a few months or ppl re-using it. I have no clue if it's bad, but car seems fine lol

Tuned here at e60, i cant seem to find a solution to my problem, my car sputters on startup idle and have to blip throttle to get it to idle normally. Ive checked connectors vaccum lines for any leaks and nothing, fuel pump was upgraded. Tuner says there is a leak but cant seem to find any

Question about the e85 in your area! Do you think they already switched over to the winter blend for your area since it is fall now? I know this time frame in the year the ethanol content will go down as we go into this season. Oreillys has an e85 tester or you can find one online and you can test it right at the pump to know what you'll be getting. It'll save you some trips and money if you are having undesirable ethanol content for this tuning situation.

e85 is 3 and 93 is 4.10....I can't wait till tuesday to get e85 tuned...you should also test the e85 at the pump simple enough to do

me hearing you say your motor is broken in after breaking mine in for 1200 miles 😳😳 also E85 here is $2.49 a gallon, it says it’s rated for a minimum of 51% and is usually around 60-70% my E85 map is really E66 lol

dude, e85 prices suck for you. in the Midwest highest I've seen is 3, mostly around 2.75 and as low as 2.39 in Iowa. Its a wonderful fuel, but at that price + the distance you have to travel I don't think I could justify the loss of mileage over pump gas, even with storing it.

Would of been better to run the tank as low as possible then put a gallon of two in then burn that down, then add a couple more gallons. Topping off a full tank of mixed fuel will take much longer to delute then near empty.

when i had my car flex tuned they drained the tank and then started the tuning process with e98, im not sure if that was to avoid the issues youre having now or if thats just what they do, OR if they were just pulling my leg lol. hope you find that good corn somewhere tho!

We were able to get to E70.1 but most shops will fully drain the tanks and use E90ish for tuning

ive had a similar problem. buddy and i rolled in on fumes and filled up with e85, he got his AP to show 83 percent and mine only showed 70. i put 16.6 gallons in. Its a 16.9 gallon tank so .3 gallons was pump gas. got some e98. true e98, and ran my tank out of gas completely. put in 6 gallons of the e98 and my ap only read e85. so my sensor has to read low. I got a new sensor and going to swap it out to see if it will change anything. but my sensor also took 15 minutes to get to a final number and the numbers would change very slowly.

@@Smeedia I just replaced the sensor with a brand new one and it read a little higher but only 3 percent or so. Still only read 83 percent ethanol with the e98 I put in it. Tank was nearly empty. So it’s a mystery to me haha shot cobb and email to see if they’ve encounter anything like this

Loving the content! I don’t understand how going up in Rear housing size is going to bring the spool down from 5000 to 4300. The car should be all in at 4000 with the 0.64 rear.

It's thr flange style, the velocity of thr gasses will increase with a V band vs a T4, they just don't make a .64 V band housing
