but did he do it because he thought the repeal of the Bill was wrong ? the Republicans all round and even some Democrats had strongly opposed the bill. In fact Democrats also felt that the bill was responsible for their massive losses in successive mid terms during Obama presidency. He probably did it because Donald Trump said of him that he likes people who were not caught indicating McCain had surrendered during the Vietnam war. And asked him how he managed to buy 6 houses after leaving the army. Certainly not possible on the support grant the army provides. He did to prevent President Trump from enacting a major reform or poll promise. President Trump had promised he would abolish Obamacare if voted to power. The Obamacare bill has not done much. It has brought more people under formal insurance but insurance premium have not gone down but only up.

Then, out of the blue, I got really sick with a rare autoimmune-neurological illness. Obamacare (the ACA) is hardly perfect but without it, I'd be dead, along with millions of other Americans. My undergrad degree is acually American History. What he did that day was the the greatest thing he ever did, IMO, and I am very grateful that he again showed what it is to be an American first and to be willing to cross the aisle when he thought it was the right thing to do. Thank you Senator McCain. You really truly did show again that you were a maverick that day. Trump is a fool, this is what real heroes do and what real American do.

The wild cheers of joy and relief from the big crowd gathered outside vs the arms crossed anger, and almost tearful defeat in McConnell's voice: Will he ever watch that segment and realize that he is supposed to work FOR the American people? He, Ryan and Trump have all fought like troopers to replace the ACA with a much worse and much more expensive option, in a country where 80% of the population wants some variation of a single payer system. They are supposed to be public servants, not public self servants! Every time they are defeated on this, people all over the US are cheering like crazy from their streets, town squares, coaches and wheelchairs. We hear and see you very clearly in Europe. The Republicans in Washington don't. The Tea party movement was born from a Republican outrage over Obama's determination and success in passing a bill that ensured affordable healthcare to a large part of the population that previously had none. Now it's your turn to do the same, and hopefully with even greater success. Make sure they get the message, loud and clear, in 2018. Mobilize! The 10% at the top may well have 90% of the capital in your country. But 90% of the people have 90% of the votes.

And this is why, trump to this day, hates McCain. Trump wanted nothing that Obama had created that was good for us Americans. McCain loved us enough to go against his own party. One of the last GOATS for the republican party.😢.. love you John McCain..

Real bipartisanship requires both political parties to put their personal grievances, pride and egos to the side in order to be effective in giving the voters a better return on their investment for electing those who promised to work on behalf of their constituents not corporations. Bipartisanship also begins with trust and respect for differences of opinion.

Say whatever you want about it, McCain passed as a hero. He knew he was passing and he could have said if I have to pass, so will you. He choose to save millions. So much respect for him.

This is the moment i began to have enormous respect for Mr. McCain. He saved the lives of hundreds of thousands with that thumbs down. This would also be a good moment to reflect on the use of the filibuster. Cause the ACA would be dead without McCain and without the filibuster.
@nearn85173 жыл бұрын
The filibuster wasn't used here. It was a reconciliation bill that was on the floor for a vote.

Obamacare is not perfect, but a lot of people's life's depend on it and senator McCains vote probably saved many of their lives. RIP Mr senator

Rest in peace, Senator McCain. I didn’t always agree with everything you did but you are undoubtedly an American hero. First, for your time as a military hero, and second, for showing decency at a time where it was in short supply. Rest easy, John. History will be kind to you. Thank you, John McCain, for fighting for Americans.

I love how Trump's little quip about "I like soldiers who aren't captured" comes full circle in this moment. It's so fitting that Senator McCain defeated this bill.
