Test drove one and there's no way I will forget how well this car drives. Handles like a sedan and the smoothness of the drivetrain is something missing in many cars in this segment(and some in a segment above).

I really do not get the reason why Subaru XV get all the hate. Ok, fine I used to be those typical Malaysians "no second hand value, etc etc". All changed when I bought this 2018 XV. Solid car & a top handling for its segment with a damn good reasonable price.

Bought my first brand new Subaru XV GT Edition with eyesight after watching this review and went for test drive. 2 years into ownership. So far still under warranty for free labour and parts. Haven’t fork out a single cent for car maintenance. Mechanical and electronics so far so good.

XV for young family or couple with no children . Boot issue never bother . Performance n identity of driver is major PLUS than a regular Toyota or Honda with their plain outlook . As u mention in Australia , Subaru is way upper level image than a Toyota or Honda

Spot on... As for the interior, as u mentioned tight budget, their designers still managed to design a cabin that's perfectly mirror when u need to change RHD to LHD. This is really good engineering from Subaru as you won't have the "this car is originally design for RHD or LHD market" feel...

Hi Kon, great review. I bought my first Subaru, a forester after i come across a documentary on astro regarding the history, the way they built their car , the effort they put the safety features and their insistance on their awd system. After driven the forester for a year, i bought another subaru, a xv for my daughter because of the handling and the safety features. I have plan for the outback this year and joined you guys for 2020 endoro

But after owning an XV (bought before i watch this video thou) to ferry my family & while alone experienced myself S-AWD + ATV during throttled corners on my beloved hilly Sabah, i converted! 🥳☕ Indeed, mechanically premium.

No doubt that the XV is one of the more 'capable' compact SUVs in terms of chassis dynamics, not to mention the respect I have for their persistency for such a relatively small company in upholding their hallmark boxer engine and build quality. However as a DIYer for most of my own vehicle maintenance, and after looking thru videos for spark plug & differential oil change, and valve & head cover gasket servicing, I have to admit not every mechanic will take this challenge in stride.

Subaru is always my favorite Japanese car, like its slogan "confidence In motion" the drivability, the stability, the visibility of the car is unspeakable. I am a subaru owner. Amazed by the handling when i owned impreza bugeye sti 2001. Now driving legacy wagon 2002 2.0L n/a for ease of maintenance (family man). For a 2002 car with awd, the FC is overall better than the Proton X70. Wanna change to new subaru ? Of course i want but my existing subaru which is closing its 200k km is still working like new car 😁

Totally agree with reviewer. The front interior is uninspiring but the drive is amazing. Smooth, smooth, smooth and great braking ability. A tad under-powered but I love the exterior. Overall, a great buy as long as you're not looking for a beautiful front interior.

Im subaru fan for along time, my personal opinion i see no need for those crazy fancy technology and complicated like other cars. i prefer simple technology but can last very long long time like LR DEFENDER and can go off-roading without worry. That what make subaru is subaru.

How about its maintenance? Can we have a comparison on the maintenance cost with its rival like Mazda CX-5 and Honda CRV? ( I know XV is consider a B segment SUV but on price point range Subaru XV position itself with the two)

That would be the Forester, but yeah about the same. We had a Toyota Vios (Yaris) before and service costs the same. Toyota a bit cheaper but needs servicing more often. For price you need to compare with AWD CX-5 or AWD CRV (and Honda 1.5 turbo engine has a big problem with oil dilution that Honda cannot fix, so they keep selling a bad engine. That is the opposite approach of Subaru, who when they had engine problems in 2012 they just redesigned the engine and fixed it, to hell with the cost. I cannot respect Honda anymore (and now you know why Civic drivers all so slow - they know if they use the car performance they will need an oil change next week!)

I really wish Subaru Malaysia bring the Impreza (Sedan/hatch). I drove the previous generation and the new impreza. I think the new impreza improve a lot on build quality. The CVT is probably one of the better CVT compare to most CVT in the market. (although i enjoy the manual impreza better). Kinda weird that Subaru Malaysia decided to put aftermarket headunit on their car since the stock one had apple carplay/android auto. And still no EyeSight, why?

My xv now at 4yrs, recently have to replace rear tyre bearings (common problems apparently) & also having issues wth the aircond. Car handling is good though

Kon, with increasing jammed up roads in Malaysia, do you think its good idea to buy xv which don't comes with any driver assistance? I love the car but really can't make decisions between this and new corolla altis which had full driver assistance. I don't care its suv or sedan

XV better, 2.0 boxer that is rarely working hard. The 1.6 turbo is great for the first 2 or 3 years then same problems as Honda 1.5 turbo. They don't make small turbo engines because they are good, they make them to meet American emissions tests.

Ermm... you mean the engine? Buttery smooth in low- to mid-range, but wails a little when pushed full throttle.

Regarding the interior, well the new 2020 Legacy and Outback just proved you wrong. They are beautiful! Subaru just ignored the interior for a long time, not because they couldn’t.

boxers are laid out longitunal unlike inline fours which are easily packaged as fwd..saw you flick right wiper sweep thinking signal, just upgraded my XV1 to XV2 and hate it that MI has put the stalks opposite sides, infact its so badly done as my wiper speeds setting is other way round..keep it japanese motor image will ya...too many 'normal' fwd econobox already in the market, subaru's are for drivers..Your forgot to mention subaru's safety as they are 7 subaru's in the 10 world safest compact cars..kzbin.info/www/bejne/nXjbhXiVfpZrm5I
