Florence Ballard was THE Supremes for me.Diana Ross and the Supremes only came about because of Diana's involvement with Berry Gordy. However the 3 together were great.Once the line-up changed,so did they.

When I was a kid all the girls wanted to be in girl groups like the Supremes. The girls would have all the moves down like the Supremes and sing these songs the same way. Stop in the Name of Love was a favorite because of the hand moves. Such great music, beautiful girls...

The Supremes always had a particular magical mystical aura that was hauntingly captivating. No matter the angst behind the scenes with their personality clashes..on stage they (the originals) always had an allure like a beautiful Christmas tree. Diana was the star on the tree and Mary and Florence were the gorgeous ornaments complimenting the tree. One without the other was okay ..but not near the WOW of the 3 together.

+Tuff Bud Initially, I loved all 3 ladies of the original lineup. Diane had a unique voice and a glamorous and charismatic stage presence. I had no problem with Diane as the lead singer. I was dismayed by the manner in which Diane was pushed down our throats at the expense of the chemistry that defined the group when all 3 girls were showcased. I wouldn't even have resented Diane so much as "exclusive" lead singer if she wasn't thrust forward in the group to the extent that Flo and Mary looked like second class citizens. Once Flo was removed from the trio and HDH left Motown, I began to despise Diane and her antics. For me, the magic of The Supremes began to die in 1967 after "Reflections" was released

+ROBERT A. LOFGREN JR. Flo really was that pretty. She was overweight, but still performed just great. She and Mary were so synchronized.I could hear their voices louder than on the records.Flo nor Mary said anything but Diane introduced Flo as the quiet one and Mary the sexy one. They sang all of their hits up to that time including "Love is Here and Now You're Gone" which I didn't hear until the previous week on Andy Williams. They showed no signs of what was going on behind the scenes. It was just an incredible performance.A few months later I saw where Florence was leaving the group and I was just shocked. It showed a picture of Cindy Birdsong from Patti Labelle and the Bluebells entering the room.We all know that she really didn't leave, she was fired.I was really feeling down.Their name was changed to Diana Ross and The Supremes which I didn't really like.I then knew something was going on but I couldn't figure it out.

@@Maatization They needed the Andantes when Berry was too cheap to fly Mary and Cindy in to record. Also, by this point, the background was so diluted that you couldn't tell who was singing in the background. Berry also wanted to emphasize Diana's "uniqueness". To him she was the star.

The lyrics go " I'm going to keep sighing baby for you, keeps me crying baby for you." Before there ever was a Destiny's Child Or A Beyonce: There were "THE SUPREMES" & Diana Ross, thus this clip exhibits the deja vu WHY? Because "THEY ARE The Originators" Way before such successful flatterings of the many modern imitation offerings of today, and those that have come afterwards. Class, Elegance,Subsistence, & Talent Personified they are Timeless & Classic. THE ONE THE ONLY: SUPREMES!
