I 💛 forcing bulbs on the windowsills this time of year. I live in northern climate and the flowers are such a bright reminder of coming spring. Such a lovely tradition.

You have some glorious Amaryllis next to you, Maria! I love your arrangements/combo of flowers and pine cones! We live in New Zealand, summer here, but I grew up in Switzerland. Christmas in winter is still much more magical!

So beautiful, Maria, these amaryllis are amazing! i didn´t know there was this tradition for having flowers in the house during Christmas. It looks wonderful all together, the tree, the flowers, the moss, bringing nature inside the house. Every flower is like a celebration of life and beauty.

Those soft colours in the Amaryllis are lovely: usually I see the bright scarlet which is rather too bright for me. Now I shall go and look for some like yours:) I cannot think how you found time to put all those flowers in vases AND make these videos!!
@NorthernHeart5 жыл бұрын
I completely agree, the bright scarlet is not really "my color" either, These soft apricot tones are much more in my taste. Hehe, well these episodes do ask a lot more of me then what you might think :P But I am glad you appreciate them, makes me so happy and worth all the work!

That is interesting and funny how such exotic plants have become part of Swedish Christmas traditions! What is also funny is that they are indirectly also part of the Christmas tradition here - simply because they grow here! :) Not exactly right here in Cape Town, but apparently they are native to the Western Cape which is our province. In Germany and also here, people also love the Poinsettia "Christmas Star". I have one this year as well!

Yes, it sure is "weird" but then again so are many of the traditions. :P I haven't looked into how that came to be, didn't really find a lot of info about that, but I guess it's just one of those things. I try to use as much "locally produced" green branches and so on, so not to be too environmentally unfriendly, but I do like a little bit of flowers during the Christmas celebrations.

Thank you Maria for another nice video, I like the color and the style of flowers that you put out for Christmas they're beautiful. I usually decorate the tree and have decorations outside on and around the house. Right now while I do my deliveries at night and different towns there is a lot of lights up I will try to get some pictures to send to you through Facebook. I hope you and hubby are well and I'll talk to you soon bye

The baubles have gone from the tree! I thought there'd be more tree decorations every day haha. In England bright red amaryllis are everywhere now, blue, pink or white hyacinths in Spring.

Haha, yes, I had a plan fr those but the plan did not involve our cat :P And she had other plans. I had to remove the tree for some episodes since she did not listen to me telling her no in regards of playing with them ;)

You asked in one of your videos what are the Christmas traditions where we are from, here from the UK, although Scotland may differ in it's traditions, well known are three traditions, an evergreen Christmas tree, Holly which is a very prickley evergreen bush, the spikey dark green shiny leaves and have many red berries on the stems, these branches are used to decorate the house. Another tradition is to hang mistletoe from the ceiling or light, the tradition here is to kiss the one you love, I believe, on New Years Eve under this hanging mistletoe, but if you are feeling naughty, it is permissable to kiss others also! Mistletoe is a saprophytic plant, birds eat it's white transluscent berries, when they then peck at the bark of oak trees, the berry with the seed gets implanted under the bark, here the mistletoe gets some nutrients and water from the oak tree, but also photosynthesises, it's fronds hang down in big clumps from the trees, this plant was considered special by the early pagans, whereas the holly was considered special by Christians. Ivy, another evergreen that frequently clings to walls also has association with Christmas in the UK, mainly because of the Christmas carol, " The Holly and the Ivy" see on Yutube!

I’m certain you know this but poinsettia ‘Christmas star’ are poisonous so be aware of this with our sweet little fur babies of both the canine and feline persuasion.
