Great analysis, thank you! I used to work in the flooring industry and discovered that many architects had no clue that carpet comes 12 or 15 ft wide. Had no clue how carpet is being seamed together (butt seam, angle seam, and so on) and that some types of carpets don't seam well. Similarly, many homes had huge family rooms in the basement (I live in Michigan) with no way of bringing large furniture down there.

So quick to point the finger at architects. FYI, those details are actually matters an interior designer should be familiar with, not an architect. You’d rather complain online than sit down face to face and teach another professional the ins and out of your trade it seems. Too bad, you seem to have good knowledge. Regarding the comment about the furniture not fitting in the basement are you sure the builders even had architects on those projects? If they did have one, are you sure the basements were originally designed as family rooms per building permit? Are you sure the homeowner didn’t refuse to pay for better access of furniture even if it was a proper family room? I can’t answer those, but I can guess insufficient money was related to the poor results in some way. Because too many homeowners are willing to pay for the best materials but are too quick to skimp on architects, designers and expert craftspeople that implement a vision. Homeowners would rather an extra 500sf even if it’s poorly constructed. And no, I’m not an architect but I know the reality you ignore.

I retired myself from 25yrs in the commercial millwork / store & office fixture industry 5yrs ago, and something we often ran into was designers too clever for their own good, and many who had no fricking clue as to how to design large components to built in a factory, then transported and installed. Hell, more than a few times they didn’t bother to check the dimensions of elevators or model turn radii of staircases or landings in the state of the art 3D software with which they designed and demonstrated to their clients.

I’m so tired of the KZbin auto reviewer’s basically praise every car and they’re obsessed with calling everything premium just because it has diamonds stitching or some sort of soft touch material. And of course they have to say great things because if they don’t the manufacturers won’t give them cars to review. look how that car squishes around and all the parts move in bend and flex because they’re so cheap and flimsy. Meanwhile you jump in an Audi or some thing equivalent and there’s no bending or flexing or creaking. People don’t understand that real premium quality isn’t just the appearance.

@@cascade5682 They make them. They're quite large and expensive and not something you could fit in most garages. It also won't fill you up in a few minutes. A commercial hydrogen filling station costs at least $1.8M and can fill 36 cars per day. A fast DC charger cost $200K (except for Tesla where it's under $50K). A home charger can be had for only a few hundred dollars since it's basically not much more than a relay and GFCI. There are a LOT of problems with hydrogen. Right now there is virtually no green hydrogen. Why? It's far too expensive to produce, costing well over twice as much to produce. Hydrogen is a major pain to deal with properly. You can't transport it in normal pipelines due to hydrogen embrittlement like you can gasoline or even methane. You can't transport a lot of it on a truck since it's not very dense volumetrically. It must be either cryogenically cooled to -253C, 20C over absolute zero (liquid nitrogen is a balmy -196C), or must be compressed to very high pressures (700 bar/10,000 PSI) and cooled due to PV=nRT (ideal gas law) before filling. And trucking with those pressures requires that the tanks be quite heavy and small (hence a lot of long skinny tanks). Also, that nice hydrogen vehicle has a sticker inside the fuel door that gives an expiration date. After that date, you are not allowed to fill your vehicle without replacing major hydrogen components, which costs more than the vehicle is worth. You're buying a car with a built-in expiration date. Besides, with EVs you can often charge just about everywhere and you don't need to stay with your vehicle while doing so. For example, in my EV I can charge at work, at home, or at the shopping center and do other things while my car charges. And as for charging speed, it is steadily getting faster to where cars are starting to be able to reach 80% charge in 15 minutes. EV chargers can also be placed just about anywhere. Hydrogen filling stations have far more restrictions due to the risk of fire and explosions, which have happened. As far as hydrogen filling stations, they can only handle a limited number of vehicles per day, typically no more than 36!!!. The capital cost of a hydrogen station is around 25 times that of a gasoline station. That's why they're all heavily subsidized by the taxpayers. There's just no way to make hydrogen economically viable.

For that access slot on the back of the seats, I don't use child car seats, but frequently "catch" on the mounting point's bezel when loading large things into the back of my car, which means that I have to come around into the side door, and try to lift the item up and over the lip of the bezel. I much prefer this lower-profile sollution, but see how it's likely not as long-lasting for those who would use it.

A suggestion car for Carl to take a look into Zeekr X: the interior space of the car is redefined. 1. a folding up rear passenger seat: no truck for grocery but just seating in the rear floor 2. moving central consol with fridge and freezer dual function 3. HUD come in as standard and a moving screen from center to the right (imagine you now can delegate navigation/change the destination task to passenger without panic during the drive)

As someone who's been a keen (amateur) sewer since childhood, my granny was a professional seamstress all of her career & I learnt a lot from watching her, I find that the top stitching on the bolster looks off because there's no way to have the single stitching run to in to meet up with one half of the double French stitching in one (apparent) contiguous line. It makes it look as though a learner sewer has done the job; something I might have done between the ages of 8 & 10yrs old. It will seem as though I'm nitpicking here, but if I'm going to pay this much money for an item, car, or otherwise, then I expect these sorts of details to be spot on.

Because I'm reasonably handy with a sewing machine, when shopping for clothes in a higher end clothing shop, I'll check the seams, hems, zips and buttons for any poorly sewn items. I've found over the years that this is often a good idea as they're frequently poorly finished despite the price tag and after a very wearings, they often either come undone or off - which is bloody annoying, especially if the garment cost an arm and a leg. Consequently, I tend to apply this same approach to all purchases meant to last a good while. 🤣🤣🤣 I've had some VERY filthy looks in high-end clothing stores as I go through the usual checklist.....but it's my hard earned cash and value for money is important to me. Don't mind paying a high price, but I'll be damned if shoddy workmanship is acceptable.

I started buying cars in the late 60’s. Most were ordered with your own option selections. The Japanese came alone with pretty much fully loaded from the factory as it sped up the production line. Now all the cars are so fully loaded costs have gone up. No car is worth $60,000 plus, imo. I have owned Lambos, Aston martins, and many Porsches. All depreciating liabilities. I will stick with my minimalist Teslas with all the options on a screen.

Not everyone wants a simple boring interior.. Some people actually like things to be unique and have some character. Tesla makes great battery and powertrains, The interiors are about as nice as a 90's Geo Metro. Boring, and cheap feeling. Those GM cars in the 50's are now considered some of the best looking and most desirable cars.. and they were at the time too.

You're exactly right, there are two more at the floor directly under the top hooks and they sell a cargo net that does exactly this. The net appears to be two layer, so you can throw round stuff into it that would otherwise roll, and the net as a whole would help keep stuff in the cargo area from rolling out on you when you open the door (if you're parked at an incline). It's actually a good design once you understand what it's actually for.

The mirror in the sun visor. Those two extra parts in the cover seem to move upward and downward as you push the cover open, probably so it doesn't interfere with the visor extender. Quite complicated.
