Next time you need to prime an engine for oil psi when new or rebuilt, remove the spark plugs for the cranking & priming session, its both easier on the starter and will yield a higher rpm. Also removes compression load from the bearings while they are without oil pressure.
@AWD_DSM_FTW9 ай бұрын
This is why every engine that I put together gets the oil pump spun by a drill to put oil where it belongs before I ever fire the car. Exception is if the engine is going to sit a while, but even then, it's no different than storing it over winter.
@79huddy9 ай бұрын
I just pull the oil pressure sender and take a oil can and pump oil in the galley till it pushes the tip of the can off of the block that or pack a little Vaseline in the pump so it has good suction on initial crank the Vaseline stays put if it sits for a while before install also
@turbo_brian9 ай бұрын
For the 4g63, always prime the engine before putting the timing belt on. Drill to the oil pump for a solid like 5 minutes until you see oil squirting from the rockers. Then you know you're good.
@MrJessegsx9 ай бұрын
Solid strategy.
@curts63528 ай бұрын
doesnt take 5 minutes. every 4g63 i've primed with a drill was firing oil out of the top of the rockers within 5 seconds. if you assembled the car with assembly lube, you dont need to prime anything. an oil change also bares the pickup, so unless you put the engine together dry, you dont even need to prime anything, but we all do it anyway.

To prime a fully assembled 4g63 without constantly cranking it, take out the brake booster fitting on the rear of the intake manifold, and put that in the oil pressure port on the oil filter housing. Use a screw on fluid pump that you can buy for gear oil and get a quart of oil and pump away. Keep pumping until you see oil come out of the rockers. I've done it many times on my 1g and gvr4 builds.

Congratulations on doing such a large swap as an enthusiast. The only tip I have is I don’t recommend cranking a car like this to get oil pressure in a manual transmission . You should always remove the spark plugs if you’re going to crank the engine in order to get oil pressure. This is so that the engine will spin faster. However, if you have a clutched car, I don’t recommend doing this because you’re going to push the clutch into a dry thrust washer in the engine and possibly damage it causing crank. You are better off using a pressurized tank and just start the engine shortly afterwards
