In “Taming Of The Shrew” (1967) a rich Merchant announces that his young daughter will stay unmarried, until her elder sister Katharina (Elizabeth Taylor) gets wed. When Richard Burton’s character, a scoundrel learns about that, he takes the difficult challenge to wed the shrew (Elizabeth Taylor). Based on the play by William Shakespeare, this topic didn’t fail to entertain audiences for hundreds of years. And in the hands of experienced stage and opera director Franco Zeffirelli, the colorful plot was successfully adapted for the big screen. As colorful as the performances of the cast and the imagery, is the music by Nino Rota. His unmistakable style, paired with the Shakespearian wit, brought a fantastically written and orchestrated score to us, with fanfares and flourishes, sung songs, “historical” instrumentals and an all in all colorful presentation that just can’t fail to lighten up your day. Thanks Fred❤ Magnificent Nino Rota👏🏻 A few days ago it would have been Elizabeth Taylor's birthday.🤩 Research: Cinemascope version of Shakespeare's classic staged by Zeffirelli with a still acceptable kitsch. Liz and Burton, after all, only had to play themselves on stage.😄 The film was shot in the studios of the film company Dino De Laurentiis in Rome. The film was a box office success, doubling its starting budget with only takings from the US market. Franco Zeffirelli originally wanted Sophia Loren and Marcello Mastroianni as the protagonists. The dress worn by Elizabeth Taylor during Caterina's final monologue is inspired by the painting by Lorenzo Lotto “Lucrezia”. Taylor and Richard Burton co-produced the film for a million lire each and took a percentage of the film's takings. Zeffirelli has repeatedly recalled how wonderful it was to work with the famous couple of stars. Elizabeth Taylor, during the filming of the film, learned of the death of her closest friend, the actor Montgomery Clift: despite the heavy mourning, she continued to work professionally on the set, alternating moments of pure comedy for the ironic scenes of the film , to moments of sad silence between one take and another.

Hello, Fred! Rota was right to write a timeless score to portray the burlesque and mischievous spirit of Shakespeare 's Katharina. He was a writer far ahead of his time, but for his time made it impossible to write a lyrical/ comic score based on polyphonic music from 1590_ 1592: orchestras didn't even exist, just consorts with few instruments ( basically krumhorn, sakabuxa, cornetto, bombarda, hautbois and German tuba, all wind; there was no percussion, the strings had a smaller sound range ) and what was composed were masses, motets, madrigals and sacred chorales. In other words, nothing befitting Liz Taylor 's incendiary presence and Zeffirelli 's passionate direction in his " La Bisbetica Domata "! Thanks and bye!!

Come to think 💭 of it. Perhaps 🤔 you could add to your list the music score 🎼 that Nino Rita did for The Godfather (1972). Just food 🥘 for thought 💭.

I love this soundtrack but whoever created this poster f*cked up. Unless Taylor wore contacts for the film (which I doubt), her eyes are definitely NOT brown lol.
