This song definitely stands the test of time. Ollie was an amazing lead singer who put in his own unique touches to the song and made it sound amazing. Yet for those who remember the original recording, I guess it’s difficult to imagine the song not having David Ruffin singing the lead. The tempting Temptations were amazing group who went through so much and made it.

A little bit, yeah. Possibly because there was pretty much zero black music in the charts in Australia all through the 60s and 70s. Ray Martin (the presenter) would have been about 20 when My Girl was released, so he would probably have been heavily into the British and Australian pop and rock that was popular at the time, and he wouldn't have been particularly aware of Motown or its significance. It's definitely not 'his music'.

There is only one true temptations and that is the original five. No one will ever replace David Ruffin and Eddie Kendricks. There were guys that sang well but no one could ever replicate the original. Paul Williams was also never given the credit he deserves. He did all the choreography and had a wonderful voice.

I saw the Temptations live sometime in the 1980's. Even then, Melvin Franklin had some health issues. I knew it was him, because he had as low a bass voice as Barry White. Halfway though, Melvin stated that he had to rest offstage, because of doctor's orders. A few songs were played without Melvin, then he came back. Sadly, he passed away because of health complications in 1995.
