I came for the retro C64 content, but I'm staying for that Mackem accent! Takes me back to my uni days! That US version of Aliens looks way better than the version i was subjected to in '86!
@Retro_B8 Жыл бұрын
Haha yeah you nailed it I am indeed a mackem, you’ll be one of the few people who understand what I’m talking about haha I was amazed there were two versions of the game, by chance I bought the US version as a kid and just loved it, imagining I was in the film!

@@Retro_B8 You can't hide the mackem accent! Was the first thing that hit me when I listened to Scarfhulu too. I need to check my old SD of ROMS and see which version I've got! Badly want to give this US version of Aliens a go! Looks really good!

Amazing games and amazing times. If only i had a time machine to go back to those days. Staying over at a mates house and playing these over a weekend along with plenty of bmx freestyle on my GT pro performer. Happy days.

Thanks mate, ah if you are an aliens fan like me you will definitely appreciate the US aliens. Of course you need to use a little imagination with it being 8 bit but that adds to its charm for me, hope you manage to give it a shot

I finally finished Fist 2 on an emulator in my twenties because the original always bugged out for some reason, but I absolutely love it. It has some really neat concepts and areas. And Gauntlet was the game that my best friend and I played religiously a whole year every time we met.

@@Retro_B8 Yes. He also liked Night Mission Pinball. I once tried to get him to play a chess game (I forget which one), but he refused. I started playing it myself and before long, he was telling me what moves to make. Then the computer took his/our queen and he claimed that it made an illegal move, and that was the end of that. :)

Aliens - I also prefer the American one. I never had the European one back in the 80s, but I've tried it in more recent years and really don't care for it. In theory I should love it. A huge base to explore in simulated 3D seems right up my alley, however the way the rooms are all depicted as flat strips messes with my sense of orientation. Also, I've read that the game gets quite hard. I played the U.S. version to death. I could often complete it without losing a single life, although that often depended on luck in some of the levels. Leaderboard Golf - I feel the same way. The only golf I've ever played in real life is miniature golf. I have no interest in playing real golf, or watching it on TV, but I like playing computerized versions of it. Leaderboard was hugely impressive to me back then. BTW, the video footage is actually from Executive Leaderboard, which only had two courses. It was the first game in the Leaderboard series to have trees, sand and rough, although not all on the same course. One course had rough around the greens, while the other had water around them. It was the third game in the series after the original, and Tournament Leaderboard, which had four water-locked courses, like in the original.
@Retro_B8 Жыл бұрын
Yeah I found the European version a bit repetitive, I think I was playing it right but as you say it just didn’t have depth. Oh wow really, haha yeah I don’t mind a round of mini golf, I tried the proper sport once and it was a disaster although the 19th hole, the bar wasn’t too bad haha. Ah I’ll have to check my footage and labelling better in future, thanks for letting me know and I’ll try to improve that on the next video!

@@Retro_B8 I've only ever played on two miniature golf courses. One used to be right near my home growing up, but has long since gone. I really liked that one and once got a hole-in-one on the lighthouse hole. The other was behind a hotel, which is now also gone. That one was kind of crappy. The holes weren't as well designed. Strangely, I don't like playing miniature gold video games as much as regular golf games. As for Executive Leaderboard, I kind of like this one a little better than World Class Leaderboard. If it had both water and rough on the same course, I'd consider it perfect. The reason I like it better than World Class is that the tree placement seems more 'natural'. In World Class, it's like there's a wall of trees around every hole. BTW, some little known features of the Leaderboard games. In all the games, pressing "R" on the main menu will take you to a driving range where you can practice. In World Class, it's a dedicated range, but in the previous games, it's just the first hole of the course. In all the games, pressing "D" will start a demo showing the computer playing the first hole. In all the games, pressing "P" will start the same course over again. And in World Class, pressing "G" will take you to a putting green. You can exit back to the main menu by pressing "/". Also, something amusing I noticed, which I think applies to all the games (definitely the original games): If your ball lands in the water, it sinks, but if it ROLLS onto the water, it will stay on top and NOT sink. The game will then draw a small island for you to stand on. I used to like to putt the ball into the water to see how far out I could get it. :)
