The sad thing is that this isn't the only example of horrifying computer animated drek from this time period. In the early 90's kids animation almost completely switched overnight to computer stuff, and shows like this were a dime a dozen. There were so many kids' movies and TV shows that had the same crap, barely animated computer rendered junk, with humor that was on par with this one shoehorned in. It got even worse when they started using motion capture. You started to see characters animated as horrible and terrifying looking as they are in this show, but moving very unnaturally like people. It was strange, but the more motion capture they used, the worse and more horrifying the animation got.

I mean, people think this show is bad because they always watch the first chapter (which is one of the weakest). From Chapter 7 and on the show begins to massively gain quality. Hey! In their defense, the crystal coconut was essential to complete DK64 and the abilities the coconut crystals powered were AMAZING! I still wish I had a barrel jet pack like Diddy did in DK64. I also have a soft spot for this show cos me n my sis bought a vhs boxset at the thrift store and honed our English this way (we only spoke Spanish back then). It didn't look so ugly when I was a kid.

After the internet made it resurface due to the memes, I recently decided to rewatch some episodes (on KZbin) of the LatinAmerican dub (the one I watched back then). I noticed that the dub team introduced lots of jokes and puns that a kid my not get (I didn't back then), but they were very funny. I feel kinda sorry for the people who watched the original as adults, since these regional dub jokes are most likely absent there.
