Eh, I prefer Interfaith Skirmish, that one had many different factions that were well fleshed out and super unique. Personally, I liked the unlockable Deist faction, where we go on our own crusade to help atheists and progressive theists create a secular state where all can live in peace. The final boss being whoever is left alive by the end was a nice touch.

Funnily enough, great many games reward you for killing civilians and innocent people. Red Alert, for instance, where they even drop you money crates. In Quake 2, killing your captive mates give you military supplies, and in one instance, a keycard too.

The first one is 'bout a theoretical scenario where the Nazi Germany never existed, so the Allies and the Soviets fight each other. Quake 2 is a first-person shooter set in the far future where humankind battles the flesh-and-machine alien race named Strogg, who kidnap humans and turn them into one of them. Quake 4 is a direct sequel to Quake 2, wit' an even moar expanded storyline.

The best way this sort of satire could of worked is they should focused on satirising how this Gender Wars concept came about. Think about it. Have the main villains be the governments of the world who are indoctrinating men and women to fight each other for their amusement under the guise of National Service but have both sides coming to the realisation of what's really going on, have them unite against the enemy and take them down. And end with a ridiculous Utopian Society where men and women are now modern people who get along.

Am I a bad person for thinking that, in theory, that idea could have been fun? If they had fixed the gameplay and cranked the ridiculousness of the concept up to 11, it could have worked. But by trying to frame this as sci-fi that kind of made sense, they missed the opportunity to go full dumb comedy. Kind of like a Naked gun movie, but about a war between boys and girls. On paper, I think that "full comedy take" might have worked... at least back then. Because today, if you released a game with that title alone, you would cause the biggest moral outrage on the internet ever. XD

The good thing about this game is its attention to details. I can't recall how many time I've watched some TV show or game show the inside of a woman's house and stupidly not include the half dozen or so giant neon female gender symbols we keep on the walls. 🙄 Finally something gets it right.

I remember seeing ads for this game in magazines back in the 90s, but I never any more than that. Glad I never wasted any money on it. They clearly saw Crusader: No Remorse, and thought "We can do that better!" And by better, they meant bigger. Bigger maps, more characters to control, more destruction, more stupid humor. I think a fundamental issue with this game's concept is just that it has all the material and comedic potential of a single episode of south park crammed into a 10+ hour strategy game with multiple campaigns. Even if its sense of humor wasn't so on-the-nose and unprofessional in how it used satire, it would take some very complex and constant storytelling to avoid feeling stale and actually do something with its premise. In its final state of just being a series of objectives without much narrative beyond that, it's just a single dry, not that funny joke told over and over again.

Second is satire, and to this day one of the best sandbox games ever made. It's from the era of experimental unusual first person shooters that still tried something new before everyone copied Call of Duty modern warfare. The era between Red Faction, Soldier of Fortune and up to Stalker was nice. Then it all turned multiplayer.

It's never been subtle admittedly but they always highlight how their real target is how the media presents debates like that, rather than whatever point the debaters are making (and they're sure to trash the loudest voices on both sides). @@jacksonteller3973 there's a lot of anti Thatcher stuff in GTA London that I suspect Americans missed (or likely just didnt play 1,2 and London) as its not obvious. But they've always had their own views and they've always clearly had more contempt for the right. But I'd argue the fact they actually have a point of view makes their satire stronger than what gender wars was trying. Their clear point of view allows them to satirise both sides of the culture war whilst almost making it clear to men's rights activists "we're definitely not on your side". Gender wars was trying to have it's cake and eat it by having no opinion snd still send up both sides. Which isn't as strong because you have nothing to say apart from the edgiest nonsense you can find from both perspectives. Which ultimately isn't particularly interesting.

I played a similar game to this, called Dominus. It was more of a Dungeon Keeper clone, but it expected your to create spells make traps, hire and upgrade creatures, and capture and interrogate enemies while defending your tower from multiple fronts. And all that in bloody REAL TIME! Yes enemy armies keep advancing even while you research or torture a prisoner. Needless to say, as much as I liked the idea and the graphics I could never ever finish or win it.

Red dwarf is brilliant and funnily enough they did do a fender bender episode that was actually really good and did a really awesome way of showing how men would have been treated and it was brilliant seeing how they felt uncomfortable and disgusted and lister pointed out how the way Rimmer felt towards his female counterpart is exactly how he treated women in their universe. I highly recommend to see the episode it’s eye opening
