Believe this comment: AWESOME video! Interesting, thoughtful, philosophical, and downright charming with the humor and a Rachel cameo! Excellent job, both of you! Keep it up!

Great video! I deeply appreciate your balanced perspective on on this controversial subject. I am not worried about AI taking away the experience of poetry from me-or any experience for that matter which involves a conversation with my soul. Will AI soon generate lines to rival Blake or Rumi? I wouldn’t be surprised if it did. But does it matter? I don’t believe so. As you noted, poetry is more process than product. Only the inner journey enriches and bears fruit-consumption alone cannot nourish the soul. A flawless form, devoid of animating spirit, is no more than a gleaming lifeless object. What if AI floods the world with stunning representations indistinguishable from what most people call art today? Perhaps then we’ll rediscover the true value of art in returning to that transformative and nourishing internal process. I see that AI is and will be confronting us as humanity with what we deem valuable, and I welcome that. Let's hope that this will point us toward the real by disillusioning us from the representations.

So very true. Robots are barely as good as the human that provided the content. The vast majority of humans working with such AI bots are not Poets….

I do not think they will replace us!

Good thoughts. I think ChatGPT's value at the moment is funny pastiche, but it is a bit worrying what the future holds.

Yeah, it's not all that great at the moment (from an artistic standpoint), but where may it go? It still can be a valuable tool... Never more valuable than the soul though 😉. Thank you for commenting. Sub for more poetry & travel videos.

What does it mean now that Meta is training its Ai on everyone’s posts?

On the bright side, at least AI poetry is better than that drivel on Instagram.

There's great stuff on IG, too. But there can be stuff that gets a lot of attention that is pretty devoid of poetic technique. But it'll be like fast fashion: forgotten.

LOL AI is not going to write "The Waste Land" or Dante's "Inferno" or Goethe's "Faust."

Couldn't agree more!

@@nathanhassallpoetry And it won't come close to writing Ginsberg's "Howl" or his "Kaddish" (they're way too idiosyncratic). And can you imagine a computer trying to write Berryman's "Dream Songs" or his "Homage to Mistress Bradstreet"? Long, sustained works of poetic genius will always be beyond AI. It won't ever come close. It will, however (I am quite sure), compose decent Hallmark greeting card verse.

I feel that the true art of poetry isn't in danger. For the fake personification of AI to outshine the genuity of the soul sounds a little far-fetched (in this point in time, who knows about next week.) If we are truly into the art of poetry, then the organic selection of words from within will speak louder than that of AI. Even mentioned, as of right now, we can somewhat discern the difference between genuine and fake. For those who are truly invested will have see through the veil of AI written "experiences" because it goes against the HUMAN experience. I do enjoy the AI aspect as a studying tool though. For example, tell it to write a poem about suffering, and try to understand how AI came up with its result. It's like telling AI to draw a picture, and we try to understand its fault in bridging simulation to authenticity.
