ORIGINAL INFO: It’s a rare occasion when “kill it with fire” is meant as a serious command.
RUMINATIONS: While difficult to come up with new material for three years for the Silent Hill reviews that didn’t just keep feeling like retreads, there were still familiar aspects that could be called upon to set the mood - the Otherworld, nurses, Pyramid Head, a cult, emotional turmoil… but the Thing was a different monster entirely. There was no way in hell I could recreate the creature effects of such a monster. Hell, even the Pyramid Head shown in the Silent Hill reviews is fairly inexpensive and cheap, and that was just for a big-ass helmet. Try doing some kind of gooey shapeshifting monster.
As such, if I couldn’t replicate the MONSTER, what I needed to replicate was the SITUATION - the paranoia, the claustrophobia, the feeling of being trapped. And thus this storyline was born. I tried to think of every normally conceivable way out and think of a way around it - I hate it in stories when there’s an obvious solution that is completely overlooked by the protagonists and I think I covered the bases nicely. We also get a chance to see what the characters are doing in their off-time, just kind of doing their own things - 90s Kid with a copy of Clive Barker’s Ectokid (originally scheduled for the first year of Longbox of the Damned, but never went anywhere), Dr. Linksano just doing some basic science stuff with his coat off, and Harvey just walking in and out again to provide a very simple red herring for the audience to think he was specifically responsible.
Speaking of, I must have been a madman. Like I said in the last video, I was EXHAUSTED from storyline, was getting ready to do another major storyline and an exhaustive one at that… and I wanted to ALSO put together 31 videos reviewing horror comics in heavy makeup? It’s no surprise I was still writing and performing Longbox episodes almost up until the end of the month. I’ve gotten better at it since then, but that was rough and I’m still surprised I pulled it off.
