To complete the first “season” of Flaw Peacock off, I wanted to do something a bit more conversational and broad. Today I wanted to share with you they things that scared me in media, growing up and how it possibly formed my taste and preference for horror media as a teen and currently as an adult. This video essay is first and foremost a love letter to the things that scare us, a love letter to the emotion, fear. I also would love to see you all share in the comments or in your own videos going over your “fear timeline”. The secondary goal of this video is for us as a community to unlock fun and spooky memories of pieces of media that shook us throughout our lives. Thank you all for 11k, its been absolutely UNREAL!!!

And the first jumpscare I had was an TAC anti drink driving campaign. A father and son are at a party and get a call about a booze bus up the street. They laugh and say they're not going to get caught. The father sinks a beer and him and his son get in the car to drive home. It's very light hearted until they get brutally mopped by a truck. Australia doesn't pussyfoot around

For me the first bad ending to anything I'd seen was the Twilight Zone episode where the nerdy bookish fellow survives an apocalyptic event of some sort and finally has the peace to read all he wants, then breaks his glasses. Stuck with me for some reason, and I think of it on occasion to this day.

The earliest time I remember being scared was with Hayao Miyazaki‘s Spirited Away. There were deeply unsettling and scary shots throughout the whole movie, but the No Face chase scene and Yubaba’s “what have you done with my baby” scene take the cake. I think, as long as you were young enough when watching them, any of Miyazaki’s films will have at least one scene that scared the crap out of you. I’ve always appreciated Miyazaki for that, because he never tried to baby us when making his children’s movies. It felt like he had an unerring faith in children and their ability to understand deep issues and be brave when afraid. Much like the protagonists of his movies. It’s like he was telling us “Yes this is scary, but you are strong. You will be able to watch it anyways.” And I did :)

I have a HORRIBLE memory, so I can't be definitive on my "horror timeline". **However**, I do remember some standouts that got me into horror: RPG Maker horror games (Mad Doctor, Corpse Party, The Crooked Man etc. etc.), Five Nights at Freddy's, the very first episode of Supernatural, Blair Witch Project, and various found footage youtube videos. Oh, and the Eyeless Jack creepypasta. Also!! I find you're videos very entertaining and also very calming, Can't wait to see more :]

For me the reason that Fire Walk with Me hits so damn hard was because it was 'Too Real' so to speak. Raw is a good term but the fact that there was no filter between what it depicts and what reality can produce made it sit in my stomach like a lead rock.

Noroi is a spectacular movie. Definitely my favorite J-Horror film, and it's up at the top of favorite horror films in general. Fun little anecdote about the American The Ring. Watched it with a friend and he was so squicked out by it he demanded we walk to the grocery store so he could check his face in the security camera to make sure it wasn't twisted.

I love this more up front form of video making. Idk why, but videos where the person is in front of the camera explaining things with full body language and eye contact is a FAR more interesting way to explain shit than have the video be filled with edits. Even when there are clips/pictures needed to be edited in, he's in frame. I hope he keeps it this way.

The first time I got jumpscared and the first bad ending I’ve ever seen are one and the same: Disney’s rendition of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. I was 4 or 5 I think; the fake-out with the reeds knocking against the logs to sound like galloping made me lower my guard, and then the actual horseman showed up, and I started screaming and crying lmao. And somehow, The Headless Horseman is now my favorite character of American folklore. Dunno how that happened, but I see it’s come full circle
@TheArgonot
@TheArgonot Жыл бұрын
(Continued) This video actually got me really thinking about common themes in things I feared throughout my life, and honestly it’s difficult to find a pattern in my case, at least when I look at it. The Headless Horseman, the “Humans Can Lick Too” story, The Green Ribbon, Jeff the Killer, Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared episode 2 (specifically when the clock started screaming to drown out the lyrics), The Silent Realms from The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, the jabberjay attack scene in Catching Fire, the scenes from Mockingjay: Part II where the protagonists need to go into the tunnels under the capital, the scene from Hereditary where the mom is lurking in the corner on the ceiling with the lights out, The Doctor from Dead By Daylight, Lady Beneviento from Resident Evil: Village, Ludwig the Accursed and Holy Blade sound effects/boss battle, the GPS video and the government PSA video from Local58, the entirety of Vita Carnis, and the “Uh Oh! Bad decision, Mark!” + running sound effects scene from The Mandela Catalogue. I have absolutely no idea what the commonality is, if anyone has feedback or observations I’m all ears

As I did my timeline, I realised what really gets me in horror media is the meshing of reality and fiction. - First jumpscare: Baby Einstein (stay with me lol) When I was 3 years old, my parents would make me watch those DVDs of educational sketches featuring colorful puppets. It was all prety normal really, except for the transitions between the sketches. It would be a pitch black background with a puppet traveling across the screen, sometimes staring at the viewer and making a cute sound. I developped an intense fear of closed screens afterward, I had daily nightmares about monsters getting out of TVs (like the girl in The Ring) to catch me and eat me up. The best way I can explain that past fear is that I couldn't handle well the idea that fiction could be real. It's why Toy Stories scared me too as a kid, I was getting paranoid that fiction was out to get me on the other side of the screen, like the TV was just a flimsy portal that could break if I looked into it too long. - Next up: Gremlins Simple enough: they looked too realistic to me as a kid, and with the fear of the TV I'd just get increasingly scared that they were real and living on the other side of screen, waiting for the screen to go black to catch me. - Next scare: The Dream Catcher If you're familiar with The Thing, then this movie is basically a bootleg version with worms that eat your innards instead of alien tentacles taking control of your body. It was my first horror movie I ever watched, and I realised fully at that moment that I had both photosensitivity and vivid imagination, so it distressed me in panic attacks as I could actively feel like my inner body was getting eaten by a worm. There's a particular scene that's still stuck with me despite overcoming that movie as an adult: the toilet scene. I won't say me, I can just say that sometimes I catch myself checking the toilet before sitting on it now hahaha. - First video game scare: Ib As any emo teenager, I loved the video game Ib to death, but I only played it once because the blue dolls scene with Gary scared me immensely. Again, something about a fictional dimension taking life and chasing me felt very distressing. - Next scare: Who's Lila? I fear fiction becoming real and meshing the two realities... Of course it scared me! Though it was intensified by the numerous migraines I'd get from playing the game as a photosensitive guy. Thank you so much Flawed Peacock for analysing the game once again, I finally finished it since I knew which scenes I had to avoid to not make my chronic migraines flare up from the flashing lights

One thing I can remember that scared me is when my grandma told me that if I woke up and looked into a mirror it would trap my soul. I have gotten over it now but back then I would be so paranoid about the mirror in my childhood bedroom. Also! Keep up the good work!! Edit: I just remembered! The old goosebumps TV show the intro scared me so much especially the voice near the end. I would just mute the whole thing until it started! Going back and listening to it it still gives me goosebumps! :)

I have this vague memory of a game I WISH I could remember the name of. I think it was one of those activity center-type games, but the only thing I clearly remember is a creepy orange muppet-like cartoon character with (I think) a drum kit in space. He had this deep, strange voice that always scared me, and the space aspect gave it this feeling of total desolation. (There was also a different part with a square gradient background that disappeared into the void. I don't remember the gameplay aspect around it, but it had similar desolate vibes.) Probably my first experience with uncanny valley and liminal space. I think part of the reason those are so prevalent in horror now is because a lot of us encountered that feeling young, and now that we're adults, we have the means to explore it intentionally. I think there's a meta aspect to it as well, particularly with early Gen-Z and late Millenials. While we grew up with the internet, a lot of very early things we encountered weren't catalogued on the internet the way things are now, leaving our earliest memories in that "liminal haze" kind of like the one you mentioned in the Skinamarink video. Like, early memories become both comforting (due to the association with early childhood) and alienating (due to the lack of common experience for some of the more obscure memories). The way that lines up with the two general reactions I see people have to liminal space (fear or relaxation) is so interesting imo.

There’s 4 different medias that come to mind that absolutely scared me shitless that still affect me to this day. The first was Goosebump’s special, Cry of the Cat. I think I originally saw this when I was still in elementary school, but the fact that that stupid cat just stalked her constantly and she was never safe anywhere got me. After watching it (I don’t think I even finished it it was too scary), I don’t think I slept that night. On top of that, I never left the room where my mom was and even had a hard time functioning. I remember vividly checking every inch of a room before entering it, and even then I wouldn’t feel safe. To this day I still have to check behind my shower curtains before using the bathroom otherwise I have a panic attack lol (I’m 19 now). Another media was the movie Lights Out. I watched that when I was trying to get more into horror movies cause despite my severe anxiety, I’m also a hopeless adrenaline junkie. Let’s just say I made it through the movie, but I didn’t sleep that night. In fact, I had all my lights on in my room, and anytime I’d slip off into sleep I’d wake up screaming and my mom had to sleep on my floor. I don’t think I slept normally for like a whole month. Another was John carpenter’s The Thing. I think I forced my family to turn that off after the dogs died. Other honorable mentions include I Am Legend and World War Z, both of which give me panic attacks anytime I try to watch them. The final one goes to the movie Smile. I tried watching that in theaters when it came out, but I ended up having a panic attack so bad I had to leave. It’s important to mention I feel that on top of having diagnosed anxiety, I’m also professionally diagnosed with PTSD due to years of stalking and psychological abuse. Due to this, I believe the movie rly got to me because the mc’s experiences in that movie resonated so deeply with me. But yeah, that’s the media that traumatized me lol. I’d like to leave this comment off with a horror movie suggestion, aka my favorite horror movie. It’s called The Ritual, and it’s on Netflix rn I believe. The way this movie is done is just *chefs kiss*. I highly recommend giving it a watch. Anyways, toodles kiddos.

I absolutely love hearing about the things that scare other people, especially things from childhood. I'm so glad you mentioned Supernatural at the beginning, it was the Bloody Mary ep that scared the shit out of me as a kid. I remember an advertisement for a movie that used to play at the end of a VHS tape I had of Beethoven that terrified me as a kid. Couldn't tell you what it was. It's become a part of the lost media of my childhood memories lmao.

On the topic of fears, being young, and weird "Rituals" When I was younger I was always unnerved by the dark, and even today I'm still unnerved by it. I was walking down my dark hall around 4 this morning and my mind just went "What if glowing red eyes turned the corner? Right there, you can't see that corner, but you know it's there. What's behind that?" It's a very childish thing to do, I'm an adult, a big tough adult. I've been in actually dangerous situations. But I still get those jitters, that little leap of imagination that just makes me skitter to the light switch, or back to my room or the bathroom and throw on the light.

When it comes to media that scared me 3(4) things come to mind, first were the saw films. My parents liked to watch them when i was younger and obviously i wasn't in the room watching it with them cause i was around 8 and the gore of the movies always stood out to me and once i saw a glimps of the screen and it infected my mind for years, i would actively avoid looking at the tv when i was in neighboring rooms. In online media it would be the Christmas special from harmony and horror and the Halloween special from the walton files, Peak online horror, the character designes were what creeped me out the most and i revisit those videos often. The most recent was a novela called "things have gotten worse since we last spoke" it's a story about two lesbians who meet online and enter a slave and master relationship, It's presented as like a true crime blogger recanting the events of the story, Just the subject matter alone made me physically ill, i couldn't finish it, i didn't even get to the part of the story i assume most others would stop at, if anyone checks that one out proceed with caution.

The first experience I had with being truly scared was the PC game Goosebumps: Attack of the Mutant. The atmosphere and off-kilter, surreal tone of the game combined with the sense of being hunted in a hostile, nonsensical environment horrified me and I have a lot of extremely vivid memories of visuals and sounds from it. Going back now, it's a deeply silly game, but boy are those memories strong.

You know what's crazy, You mentioning the goosebumps video game takes me back suddenly to the website for goosebumps way back when. There was this section for mini games and one of them was themed around not letting ghosts emerge from a basement door, I believe it was a Simon says game. If you made a mistake an absurdly creepy ghost face would slowly fade in and out and make a noise. And If you made too many mistakes all of the ghosts would fade in and just make a bunch of creepy ass noises. First time I ever Noped Out of a browser I think lol. Thanks for that memory unlock holy moly. Edit: the website was not Goosbumps, but the Nightmare room.

I sadly didn't finish your last video since at some point I got overwhelmed by the amount of names and keeping everything straight, but I'm still very excited to see the new one drop! Also my fear timeline has been a bit all over the place: I've always found myself unsettled by body horror since childhood, even when / especially if it was supposed to goofy, or played for laughs. The most disturbing movie to me early on was "Spy Kids", where a bunch of people get transformed into strange cartoony monsters, trying to ask for help without being able to. To this day the idea of being trapped in your own body, forced to watch and unable to communicate is deeply unsettling to me (an earlier example being the Yeerks in Animorphs, and a later one that really scared me being "I have no mouth and I must scream".) I also had a phase in my teens where I was reading all kinds of books by Lovecraft, and ended up scared of the dark for a while. The trip from the bedroom to the toilet at night required a lot of bravery for me in that time. It took me a long time to be okay with horror media that was more intense than a good book. I remember being scared by one of the movies in the Paranormal series in the cinema with a lot of friends. Horror games were especially inaccessible to me: when I was 17 or so I *really* tried to play Amnesia... but had to put it down after 20 minutes, never even having been confronted with any danger, because the tension was too much for me. To this day I am fascinated with Horror, and I've been on a binge of Horror movies for the past year or so, watching everything I'd missed so far. I especially love artsy, creative, out there horror movies like Midsommar, Skinamarink, Antichrist. I'm not usually scared by them anymore, except by the very best scenes. Horror games continue to be a largely unexplored frontier for me. Your first video on Faith convinced me I might want to play it before having it spoiled, but about three jump scares in (so like, five minutes) I decided to just watch your videos instead (and let the dev keep the money because the game is very good and it's not their fault I'm a wuss).

I totally get you with the fear timeline! I’ve always had anxiety and a big imagination so every time I tried to watch horror movies or anything close to it I’d have nightmares and trouble sleeping for weeks afterward. Edward Scissorhands gave me nightmares for crying out loud! Weirdly enough, dealing with seeming unrelated trauma in therapy has helped me enjoy horror a lot more. I watched Parasite (the movie) a few years ago and have been obsessed with psychological thrillers and analog horrors ever since, it’s just such a fascinating window into what plagues other people as well as whats sitting in my head that I’ve never touched.

The three pieces of media, that I vividly remember scaring me as a child are: the "Night on Bald Mountain" scene in Disney's Fantasia (we always had to fast forward through it because it scared me so bad), the movie Gremlins (I saw it when I was about 8 and couldn't sleep for a week), and the ALBUM "Musical Version of War of the Worlds" by Jeff Wayne (that album still instills a sense of dread and fear in me whenever I hear it). On an unrelated note, I discovered your channel only a couple of weeks ago, and I'm already eager to see whatever you cook up in the future! Horror is just so ripe for analysis, but too many people dismiss it as a worthless genre.

It took me a long time to actually wanna sit down and watch horror movies. I didn't start till I hit my 20s. I was always fascinated by what was in horror, though. I could read books at least. My dad though when I was little would watch scary movies in front of me and I would cry from him to turn it off and he would always just tell me it wasn't real, but then one day he jumped out of a closet in a Ghostface mask and I ran so fast out of the house through the backdoor that didn't have stairs at the time so I took a good fall for a 5 year old then just booked it down the street. Horror felt like it could become real at any time because of that. Now I feel safe enough to watch them now, though, and I've been binging so many movies this past year. Like I just watched all the insidious movies and the movies about cases the Warrens took on. It's been fun! I really love the interesting camera work these movies have. It's my favorite part

I was hardly a kid by the time that FNAF came out/became popular, but I will say that, disregarding the jumpscares themselves (which of course are kind of schlocky in nature) the visuals and concepts that were expressed in the first three games in particular really stuck with me for a very long time. The posture of certain animatronics, mostly, made my heart race just looking at them on the wiki, let alone trying to play the games themselves. Withered Bonnie in 2, in particular, still gives me heebie jeebies. Earlier than that (I think) was in Dark Souls, in the catacombs there's a Titanite Demon, a big fella, some part man/part scorpion statue with a flattened 'face'. YOu fight them elsewhere and they don't bother me, but there's a particular one in the catacombs in a pitch black room. Due to (i'm assuming) how the game renders things, the entire environment was INCREDIBLY dark, but you could see their outline almost too clearly, just distinguishable enough from the inky blackness. Absolutely spooked the shit out of me, even after knowing what the guy was. Something more recent: The Depths in Tears of the Kingdom. Up until I had explored (most of) the depths (and a decent chunk of the sky, besides) I was absolutely terrified of them. Something about the absolute pitch blackness outside whatever light you yourself manage to make, and the sheer size of it all, made me absolutely certain that I'd stumble somewhere, look up, (or worse, even FURTHER DOWN) and see an impossibly large eyeball, and have to fight something so big that there wouldn't even be a feasible way to light it up enough to get an idea of its scope or 'true' shape. Obviously that's probably asking too much, but with TotK up until you get a certain number of hours in, it really does sometimes feel like anything could've been possible. Just a handful of things that spook(ed) me. (Bonus spook: The Amygdala in Bloodborne (Yharnam) when you have high insight. Something that scares me a lot without knowing 100% why, is 'something was there the whole time and you just didn't notice it, 'The Park' made by the Secret World developers has a moment quite like this that I only caught when I was rewatching a video of me playing through it, made worse by realizing that me and the 'monster' stared at each other while I passed, except I never saw them. EDIT: OH shit I remember why that scares the tar out of me; Slenderman! VERY early in Marble Hornets there's a scene where the guy's wandering through his house, looking for intruders or something I guess, and you can see that Slenderman is lurking near a window, shadow on the curtain, but barely noticeable unless you rewatch or read the comments.

I think the first time I ever remember being scared by a piece of media was when I was pretty young and I was sitting on my living room floor. The TV was on but no one was really watching it, I think it was just on as background noise while my mom cooked and I played with something, but I remember turning to watch the screen for a little bit and the movie The Mummy was on. The only bit I watched was the scene where scarab beetles get under and start crawling around in someone's skin and it TERRIFIED me. What's funny is I'm not even scared of bugs now as an adult, but I also have never wanted to go back and watch the full movie either. The thing that scared me the most and still sticks with me was playing the horror flash game called The House when I was a kid. I remember there being a jump-scare in the mirror of the bathroom level that got me so bad that even now I get nervous about dark bathrooms, to the point where I have a night light installed in mine.

When I was a kid, The Ring was one that also really stuck with me. Especially that jumpscare you mentioned! I still champion that movie as one of my favourites and one that I find still holds up. What's funny was I grew up on a couple acres of land off a range road, so we had a (covered) well in our backyard. It was only about two feet up off of the ground and completely covered with a heavy concrete pad, but it was in the middle of our backyard and man sometimes i'd be outside by myself and remember it was there and it'd scare the CRAP out of me!

As a kid in 2011, I remember my mom’s brothers watching some scary show, and for a glimpse I saw this bloodied women wearing white with dark hair and she was glowing, the part that f*cked me up was her eyes, they were sunken and almost deformed looking on her face. I remember just watching this scene unfold, the women was pointing at something accusing someone for something they did (maybe I’m wrong because I don’t remember clearly) either way, this scene actually messed me up mentally. I refused to sleep in my room, I remember my dad getting angry with me because I’ve been sleeping in their rooms for weeks. So anything ghost related made my fear grow until I had this phobia of ghosts and demons, I also remember my aunt showing my mom a voice recording of a person possessed by a demon, and the demon talking about how they stay in corners if they entered a room and that bathrooms is where they preferred to hang out because it’s filthy. I was really distraught after hearing that voice recording. To this day I avoid looking at corners and dark closets. I tried searching for the show and voice recording again but I couldn’t find them because they are in Arabic, I know the language I just don’t remember what the show is called. (Also side note, anything blood related is ok with me, I would watch a lot of gory stuff like happy treehouse friends and bloody my little pony images in our old computer and I would be fine, I just don’t know why I cross the line at ghost and demons that f*cked me up) Sorry for this huge rant I just had to get it out

my first horror experience was, as a child, sneaking "scary stories to tell in the dark" home from school, reading it in the dark, then being so traumatized by the terrifying sewer rat dog illustration that i was legitimately terrified of the dark for years after that.

My earliest memory of being scared by a piece of media is at the end of Ice Age (feels a bit dumb now but tbh I get it), when the characters are walking into the horizon all happy and then BOOM close up shot of Scrat's frozen face. It was like a jumpscare for me, I swear I was TERRIFIED as a child and everytime I watched the movie I would close my eyes at the end, anticipating it. But yeah, great video! Fear is probably the emotion I've struggled with the most throughout my life, but there is this deep desire to face and explore it so horror fiction is a beautiful thing to have.

My return to monkey for old KZbin was early early phil defranko, fluffee talks, and red vs blue. Super weird to remember those days because everything felt so different. Especially the video reply option. Wish they’d bring that back somehow. As far as earliest horror moments I’d say Pinocchio when the donkey transformation takes place. The amount of sheer terror I had from that scene is something that has inevitably scraped up some psychological scar tissue. For actual horror I remember watching Chucky when I was far too young and the way Chucky would launch himself at people gave me a fear of small creatures being able to get you from a young age. Your channel is incredible Flaw Peacock! Keep it up 😉

I could use this comment on a video from a year ago to talk about how Noroi changed my brain chemistry, but I think I actually want to use it to say that the idea of a "filler" video isn't actually as negative as you worried about when you were putting this together. While watching your entire library of videos from my covid sickbed, this is a lovely opportunity to just sit with you and come to understand you as a creator and consumer of media. Filler? Maybe. Filling in the spaces between deep dives with something personal.

Fire Walk With Me is an absolute all timer. I love how Twin Peaks shows the aftermath of some truly horrible shit but frames it within the tone and lens of a soap opera. So following it up with Fire Walk With Me which takes so many horror elements and displays the same events so rawly really adds to ones appreciation of Twin Peaks. While I think it's probably best to watch the show first, I do have friends who bounced off the show until they watched FWWM, as it gave them a greater appreciation for the tonal dissonance between the often light tone of the show and the heavy shit depicted in it. Anyway, great video and I'm loving the channel! Came for Who's Lila and Skinamarink but am excited to catch up on the backlog :)

The worst thing i ever saw in my childhood was an episode from this adult swim show about a fictional death metal band. I had stayed up late after my nightly viewing of an og teen titans episode that they used to air on boomerang every night at 10 pm. My child self (not knowing that adult swim was even a thing and just believing that the other cartoons that were being shown at the time were regular cartoon network shows) decided to click on a random show on the CNN channel. To my utter dismal, the show featured a bunch of people being invited to tour this death metal band's house, and being killed in various different horrible ways. Firing squads taking down swarms of panicked and running people, land mines detaling the exploded remains in a twisted cartoonish style that still makes my bones shiver to this day, and, most the most horrifying and vivid sequence in my brain, two men walking down a corridor, one in a wheelchair and one standing, at a certain point a trap is triggered and the man who was standing gets his head blown off by a cannonball while the man in the wheelchair sits there screaming. At that point, I quickly changed the channel, but the image of the mans head getting blown off still plastered in my mind to this day.

I'm not sure why but while watching this I was suddenly reminded of a movie I watched perhaps a little too young for it, about a cat that defended a child from some kind of troll or goblin in the walls and in the end, pushed or threw it into an electric fan with the front off- One with metal blades, so you can imagine the gore, and a parent comes in afterward and picks up a tiny arm and sword. Apparently it was an anthology movie of three stories called Cat's Eye by Stephen King and I only caught the tail end of it! No wonder it terrified me for years as a kid- I only caught part of it, probably saw 'movie with cute cat' and watched it not knowing it was horror! Though to be perfectly honest, of all the movies I see people discuss in video essays, I've never EVER heard anyone even mention Stephen King's 'Cat's Eye'- I only just now googled it to find out if I could even find the name for this comment! It's such a strange movie, might be something you'd find interesting to check out some time! I, meanwhile, am going back to marathon every video you've posted so far!

And watching wendgoons blood meridian video, which was a very varied experience. Very real horror at the beginning to very like fate driven and unstoppable almost supernatural at the end. One of the first things that truly scared me was at an amusement park in my home town. If you're from New England, you probably know the one. Since it was right down the road, my family always got season passes, so I spent a lot of time there. There was a haunted mansion ride, and the mansion itself was a huge building in the park with attractions all scattered around it. I was terrified of it, so I never went on the ride itself. Don't worry though, the ride comes to you! Around the back side of the mansion, every so often, an animatronic would come out onto a balcony and play some audio about the mansion, as an advertisement for the ride. I can't even tell you what it looked like I ran so fast. It was green, either hairy or covered in rags, and it seemed to be dusty and horrible. I avoided that entire area of the park for years. That was my monster in the basement, that thing was what I was afraid was in my closet. Of course, there were other stories about the park. There was the haunted lighthouse, a water slide from which you could always hear giggling, even if there was no one inside. Tons of people claimed to see a child going up the tower and down the slide, only to never come out the bottom. Now, it's an amusement park. If you've ever worked at one, you know they're death traps. I know of at least three actual deaths that happened there while I grew up. So there's always that real and tragic aspect that we shouldn't ignore when talking about the ghost stories there. People lost children there. I just want to be explicit about that, even as I share spooky stories about the place.

I'm only 7 minutes into the video and I've already got a comment to make- One of the earliest exposures to horror I had was watching Courage the Cowardly Dog as a kid. There was lots of bizarre, creepy-but-I-can't-figure-out-why, unsettling stuff in that show. I really liked it, it was oddly (and creepily) fascinating. Later on in my life whenever I saw art or animation that reminded me of the show, I naturally gravitated toward it. I have since learned exactly what this genre of art is called: Surrealist horror. I LOVE surrealist horror. Stuff that pulls you into a sense of "I'm no longer in the reality that I know", makes you feel the dream-like sensations of "what the hell is going on, what's gonna happen next, I have no way of predicting where this is gonna go or if I'll ever feel safe", the sheer challenge it poses to one's imagination. It's a world full of the strangest and scariest things you could imagine, and things you yourself often COULDN'T have imagined. When well-executed, surrealist horror is thrilling like nothing else.

what a comfy video this was, even though it was about fear... my earliest memory of being scared by a piece of media is me sitting at a family PC when I was 3-4 years old, playing Speedy Blupi and being terrified of the sound effect that played whenever I fell in lava. it scared me so much I had to get my mom to play thru the level for me while I stood in the doorway ready to close the door if I saw her falling in lava there was also an opening to a tv quiz show that used to terrify me, that I just remembered, so thank you for unlocking that memory!! show was called Miliard w Rozumie, it was a Polish show (I'm Polish), you can see the intro if you look up "1 - Miliard w rozumie - 13.05.2000" on youtube. looks so silly now but oh man, I was panicking whenever it came on TV back then

I'm a little late to the scene, but sure, i'll contribute. I have a very, very poor memory but one thing i distinctly remember is getting absolutely terrified by an episode of goosebumps or something my 2nd grade teacher had played for some holloween fun. I just couldnt handle it, I don't think I'd experienced anything like it before- I was so terrified I started to cry. The teacher took me outside to try to talk me out of the fear, tell me that it wasn't real. My memory stops after that point, so I don't know if I'd went back in or stayed outside. I have a vague visual memory of the show, but its difficult to describe... something like the monster stalking around the house, with the kid protagonist only seeing hints of a big rubber dino-y "foot" or something? When i got older i definitely started seeking horror out. Creepypastas, mostly- very silly to think back on what scared me back then. No other answers for the questions cause my shit memory LMAO

Ayy, totally up for this future look in videos! And I'm gonna go back in time. About two weeks; One of my hobbies is cosplay. I watched your Faith videos, -more clearly Faith Chap 3 because it's so nice and long to listen while doing stuff- and uh... I might have realised how cool of a character John really was and how full his backstory really is. I also might have realised there's hardly cosplays replicating the in-game look so. I decided to fix this small hole by taking up for the challage. And I have no idea what was my first scare. I always get affected most by psyghological horror (Your explaining about Hollywood feel is accurate explaining why), but have eaten up Goosebumbs books, Creepypasta, rpg horror games etc. As a kid. But I guess The crooked man could be most biggest cause of horror to young me, as the sprite straight up haunted my eyelids and very soul. : D Grudge also caused me very specific fear on the voice demon made, and I slowly got over it by doing it myself (Yes, horror was at max. because I learned I can imitate the voice lol.) I do see pattern, where more deep character stories and thread are biggest factor in my horror history. Uncanny faces, eyes in the dark, those close to reality, those of someone's actual reality, those fictional realities, where humanity has unavoiable threat facing them. That person, who is bit too slightly to the left to be natural. Filler video or not, I'm digging it. Horror as a genre is very dear to me and has been that from the start. And ohh yeah, arg, analog horror area is scratching that spot juust right. Mandela, URBANSpooks, Gemini, Local 58... The early classics are endless candy bowl. And btw, I sold your Faith video to my friend explaining, how your white board action does help remember stuff in longer videos + your small drawings are cute and fun. One of your smol John art is as my Discord pfp, it's too iconic I shall keep this amazing season, in mind.

I just found this guy and holy crap I'm in!!!! HALLWAYS!!!! I totally get it. Hallways have always freaked me out. I think it's because as a kid I grew up in my grandma's house and there was a long hallway from the living room to the back of the house. At the end of the hallway was a mirror. When it was dark you could just make out yourself in the mirror from the other side of the hallway. Even though it was me it wasn't. The reflection was distorted. The mirror was old and the hallway was darker towards the back of the house. It was like a Mandela Alternate or skinwalker or something staring back at me. I think that's why that scene in The Shining terrified me (still does). When Danny is driving around on his little tricycle down one hallway and turning to another hallway until he turns a corner and BAM!!!! Those two girls are standing there. OMFG I'm getting chills just thinking about it. Great channel man. Keep on rambling!!!!!
