Hello guys and gals, it's me Mutahar again! This time we take a look at what appears to be the final days of TikTok in the United States. With less than a week left for anyone to buy it, it's becoming more and more likely that one of the fastest growing platforms may be crippled and it's creators left wandering for a new home, why? Let's find out! Thanks for watching!

First of all, they ALREADY ARE looking into breaking up Google right now. Chrome is on the verge of getting separated from Google as is. Second of all, I would MUCH RATHER have my own government taking my data than a FOREIGN GOVERNMENT that has turned China into a totalitarian dystopian dumpster fire.

Not about personal information, but information warfare. TikTok has been provably shown to tailor its algorithm to push CCP propaganda both to boost the image of the CCP / China (a hostile foreign nation which has openly hacked critical civilian infrastructure) and to push a “America Bad” narrative.

I kinda feel sorry for kids these days, because they never got to experience what the internet was like during the Wild West era, which I personally consider the golden age. We had problems with trolls, sockpuppets, and spammers back then, too, but now, we have spam bots that are out of control and trolls who are given megaphones on all social media platforms to ragebait for engagement instead of being permabanned like they would've been on a forum. It's becoming more and more exhausting to be on social media, especially with the current political climate in the US and around the world and the increase in brain-dead people with main character syndrome accessing the internet. 😭 There are still pockets of the old internet around, but you have to make an effort to find those gems.

Kinda expecting my comment to fall on deaf ears, but I'm disappointed by this take. I'm not going to sit here and pretend that Tiktok doesn't have a privacy issue, however, the point has flown through your head completely. The United States has been barrelling torwards an Oligarchy, and I feel like it's easy to miss that, when you yourself do not live here. For you to completely miss the point of a video, and then laugh is so extremely tone deaf. The TikTok ban is proof that the US government does not care about our freedom of speech, or our privacy. If they did, Tiktok would not have been the target for the ban. I wish you would've approached this topic better, rather than straight up laughing in people's faces for a very real issue we are currently facing in the US.

Enact actual data protection laws that apply to all social media companies. Tiktok is a special case because of it being owned by Bytedance in China, but I genuinely don't think that it would surprise me to find out that the equivalent data is easily available to the Chinese government via data brokers that just gather data via American social media. Same with the manipulation concerns and advertising/astroturfing on American social media. Imo, the issue isn't Tiktok, it's the general American information landscape. If Tiktok is banned, that doesn't fix the root issue.

He said that when he was young, he dreamed about advancing the world with science and technology, but as he grew older, he began to acknowledge human nature and gradually became conservative. By the time of that interview, he was in his 60s and had shifted his focus to solely preventing science and technology from falling into the hands of those with malicious intent. Unfortunately I don't think our society was mature enough to be aware of what the aforementioned scientist realized when we entered the information age, to effectively regulate data collecting.

Tiktok, Instagram, OnlyFans. Also pornography should only be accessible to people who pay. Porn, thirst traps and unrealistic expectations have actually ruined people's mind and morals. This isn't unthinkable. The energy that you spend doing something is gone. And the more you do something, a habit starts to form. It's so disgustingly easy even for children and teenagers to have access to adult content and distractions, that to me it's absurd how anyone can think that these bans *aren't* the right thing to do. To go as far as to accuse the government of fascism is ridiculous. The freedom to do whatever you want shouldn't be confused with the freedom of doing harmful things.

@@McNyloLTReally, not that serious. The US government isn’t suddenly gonna become fascistic and more authoritarian because they got rid of TikTok… You sound like an old man who’s crying about the government’s control, like seriously chill. Both OP and you. Yes, it may be a minor violation of free speech, but it’s TikTok. It’s a net negative, so I can understand getting rid of it. If they start getting rid of things only to restrict freedom of speech then i’ll have an issue. But that isn’t the only case against TikTok, and every other case i stand by, even if it’s done by other social media. TikTok is much more popular among the younger generation than other apps of the same nature. Yes you can cry about “why this and why not that 🥺” but i’d rather they get rid of one than none.

The UI was fairly easy to navigate yesterday in spite of the mandarin but since then they’ve been working like crazy to make the app accessible to westerners and the Chinese users have been very friendly and welcoming, teasing us with memes and demanding cat photos. Students are asking us for help with their English homework. There are posts asking for questions about how American/Chinese are perceived and propagandized to think about the other, the cross-cultural communication happening on that app right now is probably making both our governments lose it.

just that the whole national threat opposition to TikTok was that it is actually and quite literally OWNED by the Chinese government (basically in China, every single factory and company is owned by the government by law and must oblige with whatever the CCP orders them to do otherwise they will be jailed). TikTok has shown in more than enough examples that its algorithm is basically socially manipulative and that by design it was brought to the west solely to shorten the attention span of young people and make people ignorant and dumb about everything. thats the whole reason why TikTok is on fire and is concerned as a national security risk by the US Government, the European Security Council, India, Japan, and the UK. that is not to say that Meta/Facebook are not doing the same thing, but unlike TikTok they are not owned by a communist enemy government which are the biggest threat to the modern world and the biggest alarming country which will initiate world war 3.

Is it really about the money they put into the algorithm? Or is it that they don’t want you to see what the algorithm promotes?

Mostly disappointed because it was a reliable to find out what was happening in the world that the main stream/ US media wouldn't write about. Also the memes on there were the best and the comments were almost always funny. Unfortunately the main social media websites are way too overrun by propaganda bots and some of the most hate filled brainwashed people.

A former TikTok employee put up an AMA on Twitter One of the top questions was the following Q: Would you let high school aged kids use TikTok A: "Hardest no possible" That is the reason why the ban is good

Let's be real, though, TikTok being banned is about free speech, not protection. Visiting a website is like visiting another country. Are they going to infringe on our right to visit and explore other places? I get that accessing data is a concern due to privacy, but then that can apply to any country and every company. It just feels like an overreach.

Not about privacy, its about influence. If you don't understand how tiktok influences then the government is in the right to protect you.

I thought this was bad too until I realized it's only banning companies from *HOSTING* tiktok and it's services, meaning, Apple and Google need to remove the app from it's stores. However, the tiktok domain and website should still be accessable without any restrictions. If that's the case, I'm all for this ban. It'll stop 95% of people from using Tiktok, without violating open internet policies. This is great!

It also means your ISP can't connect you to it, what would the point of the bill be if it only blocked the app?

@user-dr2sr9ft4x No it doesnt put any mandates on the ISPs, they can still allow you to access the free and open internet. The point of banning the app is to stop 95% of people who won't go out of their way to access it via other means.

@user-dr2sr9ft4x This is not how this is going to work... LOL, Tiktok is not becoming "Illegal" There will be fines, fees, and dues for sending information back to China. If tiktok moves all their servers and operations to the U.S they can continue... BUT they'll never do that because the propaganda AI they use to push certain things to certain people all operate on CCP servers You don't think they use propaganda algorithms? Man you'd hate to look at what patents bytedance and tencent owns.

I feel like this is also Meta/Facebook/Instagram lobbyists because this only became big since Reels has come out, I think it might be Meta trying to get its hands on every single social media format. They tried with Threads to get Twitter's market and they basically want Meta's apps to be the only option to get the short-form content fix. I don't think this possible monopoly would ever get broken up because there's been little action against the data collection and based on the Snowden leaks, these privacy breaches are beneficial to the US government.

5:25 unless the government is limiting your free speech in the public sphere. Incorrect, the tiktok ban limits tiktok's freedom of speech. If they KZbin, your speech is limited, no doubt. But the actual limit on free speech is on KZbin's free speech. Keep in mind, YT can limit your speech as the company is private. But, the government banning YT, seems to actually limit speech in the public sphere

My question is not what will happen after the ban, but how the doublehander they’re gonna enforce this. VPNs are most likely just gonna help people use tic tok essentially making the ban useless. It’s literally a second prohibition era but instead of alcohol it’s a media app
