Remember the Kendall Hinton game between the Broncos and Saints in 2020? Imagine a team winning a game with a wide receiver at quarterback. Well, in a 1966 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Philadelphia Eagles did just that. Playing a wide receiver at quarterback, the Eagles were able to win against all odds. This is the story behind that game.

I know Snead was with TFKAR in 1963, but that wouldn’t be the last time a man who played quarterback for the Eagles made the Pro Bowl in spite of putrid numbers. You can check out the video OJG9 made about Mike Boryla and the Pro Bowl after the 1975 season.

It was against the LA Rams late in the season. No one remembers also that Ed Brown, who was a veteran QB that had played for years for the Bears and Steelers, had been recently cut by the Steelers, and was signed by the Colts to play in that game, in which he did toss a touchdown pass. He was ineligible to play in the post season because he signed so late, a rule not in effect in today's time, so he did not QB the Colts against the Packers in the playoff game that was necessary because the Packers and Colts had tied for first place in the Western Conference.

Not really a WR 3rd string QB that went on to start 33 games for the bears over the next 4 years

Have you done the one where Bobby Hebert was so pee'd off with the Saints form that he - with the reluctant acceptance of his head coach (might have been Jim Mora) - decided to do every QB trick play in the book? You might expect that to end in disaster. It didn't.

I remember that 49er loss to Philly in November of 1966, played in the mud at Kezar in San Francisco. It seemed fitting that the old USF Don from 1951, Ollie Matson, scored the winner for the Eagles. Concannon: another Jesuit educated player from BC, like Matson, and on the same '66 Eagles team. Joe Kuharich, the Eagles coach, coached the 1951 USF team, undefeated and not invited to any bowl game, and where Bob St. Clair of the 49ers, Ollie Matson of the Cards, Rams, Lions and Eagles, Ed Brown of the Bears, Steelers, and Colts, Dan Toler of the Rams, and Gino Marchetti of the Colts went to school.

BTW, The Eagles won that game against Cleveland at Franklin Field - despite Concannon’s 4 INTs, 33-21. He ran for a score and threw a TD screen pass to Tom Woodeshick. Philly ended up in second place in the Eastern Division that year and went to the Pro Bowl in Miami.

Very cool. I think I said this in another video on your channel regarding a WR playing QB in a game, but Freddie Solomon did it for the 49ers in 1978 in the final game against Detroit. Soloman only had halftime to prepare to play QB though. 49ers lost that one not shockingly 33-14 in one of the most embarrassing losses in franchise history where the result in context was worse than the final score. Soloman was actually the 4th guy in line to play that day with both QB starters hurt, and the third option a DB that had a broken hand. While Soloman threw an interception, he did have a TD run.

Solomon was actually a QB in college at Tampa, but was switched to WR when he was drafted by Miami.

A team actually wins a game with a WR at QB and the impossible worked out for sure-Very interesting story. Had never heard this one before but knew the names associated with the situation. Great video footage, too, of the in-state rivalry.

Calling Concannon a wide receiver is a stretch. Maybe you could another video on him of a quarterback playing wide receiver.

Yes, he threw an interception and later caught an interception in that game. Last NFL player to both throw and catch an INT in the same game.

Your video is wrong. The Eagles vs Steelers game was actually played on December 4, 1966. Not November 20, 1966. I know, because I was born on 12/04/1966. Just an FYI.

Hey it happened once to me when I was playing one of the old NCAA Football games on the PS2, hehe....I actually managed to get 2 QBs injured in the same game (I think I had at least one more on the roster but he was injured in a previous game) and had to put in a WR who had a little bit of throwing ability in for the rest of the game. This was in "dynasty mode" and I had the team set up to basically be a option running team who can pass when they need to, so after that happened I just pretty much stuck to running, and ended up winning anyway, lol

Funny that this was against the Steelers, seeing that three decades later Kordell Stewart was both a QB and a wideout. His career really doesn't get the attention it deserves, partly due to some Steeler fans who are racist and also want Mike Tomlin out for the same reason. But Stewart was definitely underrated.

I believe Walter Payton would have been a better option than anything the Bears had before Jim McMahon. He had the strongest throwing arm on the team even after McMahon got to Chicago
