@@Stringfellowhawk346, Rick James had been calling out MTV about their unwritten policy of not playing Black artists from the start. But it was David Bowie during an interview w/MTV who flatly asked Mark Goodman, one of the original hosts, why didn’t they play Black artists? Goodman came across as a bumbling, stumbling, idiot in trying to explain it. Finally, Walter Yetnikoff, the president of CBS records, whose biggest star was MJ, warned MTV that if they refused to play his videos then he would pull ALL their OTHER artists videos from MTV. The rest as they say is history. RIP David Bowie, Rick James, & Michael Jackson.

@72Dexter72Manley72 Жыл бұрын
Hold up my man. 😊😊The Time had some of the best musicians in that band. Jelly Bean on Guitar. He is one of the best guitar players around. Terry Lewis on Bass. Jimmy Jam Harris on Keyboards. Yes the famed producers and writers who wrote hits for artists for over 4 decades. Morris Day is a great drummer. Plus his swagger is unmatched. Then we have Jerome. The ultimate roadie who turned wingman for Morris. The Time was Morris Days band. He put that band together. Yes Prince could play every instrument no doubt. And he put that drive into The Time. But make no mistake. The Time would kill it every show they did. Prince would never let The Time open for him. Because he knew when they played live they would kill anything he did.
@goonermrtee7718 Жыл бұрын
You mean Jesse Johnson on guitar? Jellybean was the drummer. How could you forget Monte Muir on keyboards?. 😂 But I agree with the rest of your comments - The Time certainly were not a “backing band “for Prince. They were / are super talented!

@72Dexter72Manley72 Morris Day had nothing to do with putting The Time together. He wasn't even the 1st choice for lead singer. Prince originally tapped Alexander O'Neal for lead singer, but he wanted too much money. That's when Prince put Morris Day in. The band worked for Prince. Prince literally signed their paychecks. Prince also wrote and recorded a majority of their music on their 1st 3 albums, although Morris played drums on most of the tracks.

Two Oberheim OBX's in the background jamming! The Time was a SERIOUS band. They use to give Prince the flux back in the day. I remember the rivalry. While Prince produced and arrange the cut on the album(who else) , Morris Day, Jimmy Jam, Terry Lewis, Monte Moir, Jesse Johnson, Jellybean Johnson tore up up stage. The Time was about the only band (in concert) that could give Prince a run for his money. The dueling bands brought out the best in each other. Magical "times" ;) .
