As an ex games operator for carnival games I do recommend this. ALWAYS ask them to demonstrate how its done from where THEY are asking you to play from. Foul line, exact ball etc. I always would demonstrate as if I was a guest playing the game and do what I could to make sure people would win. Honestly had the same thing happen to me years ago. Worked an all-cash job, stopped at a carnival one weekend (same shady thing in a mall parking lot). It was like plinko-style game - prizes were xbox 360 and PS3... same thing happens, double the payment but double the prize you'd be stupid not to keep doing it. Learned to just walk away from those games. It triggered my competitiveness as a gamer, and they know it. I think they got me for a bit more than you... it was a good life lesson for a pretty low overall cost. The best way of not getting scammed is avoiding the scam from the start. Stay away from any strangers playing a game, suspiciously enticing websites, giveaways, and generally shitty people who you have no face-to-face connection with (AKA screw discord). This is a form of gambling addiction. I myself deal with it as a poker player. Chasing loses, believing the problem is you and that you are just one or two adjustments away from being a winning player, impulse control issues, going back to the ATM, pushing thru bets even when your friends beg you not to, etc. Charlie, if you happen to see this, just keep this in mind so you don't fall into these type of habits like I did. I used to be big into TF2 when I was a kid, and I saw there was like an 18% chance to unbox a 20$ part from a crate, so I spent like 30$ trying to get it. I didn't get it. The disappointment from it has pretty much turned me off of any gambling since, because the odds are never as good as they seem.

At a local carnival same thing happened to a solo dude no matter how many times you passed he was still playing you had to stop and watch. Dude finished all his money and wanted some free throws and the carnival guy was like "no way get lost". Well i guess the dude felt a little disrespected because he called friends and they beat the carnival scamer's ass in the parking lot while he was opening his car. Idk how much they got back but they were probably on profit after that.
