I did an experiment last fall where i seeded one section of lawn with a contractors mix and one section with the Ryan' knorr turf type tall fescue. They've both received the same treatment (very minimal). The difference is staggering. The kids only want to play on Ryan's grass lol. Needless to say it's worth the added cost.

How's the buffalograss looking? Has it woken up yet? It'll be interesting to see how the seed heads work there. You did a seeded type so you'll have male seed heads - the female clonal types have their flowers in the bottom of the grass stem.

It was my first spring with your bluegrass/rye mix, seemed that the bluegrass took longer to wake up and didn't seem to have the crazy amount of top growth that I use to have before I renovated my yard. No complaints though it was way easier to keep up with the mowing and only needed to cut twice a week to maintain 1'' height of cut.

This happens every year in the spring, but it eventually passes, and as long as you mow regularly the grass doesn't have time to go to seed. What is it about this time of year that makes this happen?

Wow, 3/4" on the rye, nice flex. 😄 I'm keeping my KBG at 3" now that it's getting hot, I'll even go up to 3.5" to help maintain the color and keep moisture down in the soil once it gets into the peak of summer. I never really worry about watering anymore, it's more about timing. If it's a drought, I just mow higher and less often. And also try to time mowing just before rainfalls, when/if possible, taking as little off the grass blades as I can. The neighbors all wonder how my lawn always copes better and stays deep green in summer, and I just have to smh ... many of them are watering in the evening, not dethatching in the fall, cutting below 2.5" on 6" growths every few weeks which murders the grass, and then they end up with a struggling lawn that's full of yellow straw, seed chutes, and weeds that would be laughing if they had mouths. 😑

Also reducing watering to all shaded areas at the current time unless there’s no rain for a week temps under eighty.
