Aloha from the Island of Maui, SMK! This song struck my soul like a lightning bolt, when I first heard it! I didn't really understand the deep biblically prophetic meaning, that I have come to know and have experienced in the 50+ years that have passed! We CANNOT make this world a better place! It MUST be cleansed by my God, Jesus Christ, who is a "consuming FIRE" against SIN, and everything that sin has corrupted, then comes a New Earth where Righteousness, Peace, Love, and Truth - will dwell! And those who love Jesus and keep His Commandments, will live forever with our Creator and Redeemer, and experience what we felt and longed for, when as "Flower Children" of the Hippie Movement - we sprang forth out the earth, as the Sun beams of Righteousness fell on us! All Glory to our God, who has done this! Your friend and brother in Christ, Maka'ala Stone

I've heard many many versions of this great song but I think that this version is the best version because of the addition of John Sebastion's harmonica that clearly defines this version as the best of all of the other versions at least in my opinion. Sebastion was of course the leader of the very popular band ( The Lovinspoonfull )that turned out almost as many hits as the Beatles during the middle 60's. He is really great with that harmonica isn't he?!

I worked at a top concert venue in the 1980s when they did their last UK tour, because I was working I was unable to watch the whole performance but saw about half of it and they were brilliant especially the beautiful Ms. Tavers. The most unbelievable thing, however, was that the management of the theatre had to "paper the house" (give away free tickets) in order to get a decent audience. You can always tell a "papered house" because some people given free tickets don't bother to turn up, and so you get islands of people surrounded by empty seats.

I believe it was the recording system then. It depended on who was doing melody and harmony. They were just the best ensemble group

I think it had to do with the way they had to hear one another to harmonize and the technology in use. Also - notice the early Beatles "sharing" a mic while singing harmonies.

The harmonica player John Sebastian, is he the same John Sebastian who used to play with The LOVEIN SPOONFUL? I think this is the best version I once had on a PP & Mary LP about 20 years ago. It was that harmonica that made it superior to all other versions of this great song!

alan murr I think it has to be. It looks like him, but he sure didn't age like PP&M.

Randy Gathany I remember John Sebastion was my age. Just a kid when we were first turned on to these middle age musicians who sounded so good we didn't care how old they were, I mean like PP& M had 20 years on us maybe? I see another version where these three do this song in 1966 and at least Mary who makes the exact same natural moves as she does in this version, the only diff is she has a perfect figure then and is way past her physical prime in this version. To see it just look for this song. I remember the guy who uploaded it had the numbers 1323, knowx 1323. This song was probably recorded 20 years ago so that is why John Sabastion looked so much younger then PPM. If you can find that version on You Tube watch the way MARY makes all the same moves, only then she in 1966 had a perfect body.
