That's a Tai Chi principle... sort of. Attacking the person's balance first, then attacking the person. In one motion, tho. The goal is to take an action, then take a second action before you register whether your opponent's reflexes kicked in - you trust that their body will react, because humans CANNOT fight their balance reflexes very well. The way I would describe this particular "Set their hips then shoot" in Tai Chi terms would be that you do not wait until you see/feel the opponent shift their weight. You can be 99% certain it happened without waiting for confirmation, and your opponent will know they've done it before you can see/feel it. You just trust that you've set their hips with the movement, and you shoot immediately. Your goal in shooting blind this way is to catch the opponent in the middle of their adjustment, reacting to the first thing you did instead of the second. You are buying yourself roughly 0.18 extra seconds, which is more than enough to separate success from failure. I call that first part "anchoring a leg".

I dismiss most comments like this as basement dwelling keyboard warriors, but this viewpoint is actually quite useful. Appreciate the input

@@WrestlingUniversity Just noticed the reply. I appreciate the semi-open mind; you are halfway there. I'm guilty of it as well - I will watch some video by a person who knows less than they realize, and I can get a bit dismissive that they have nothing to teach me. But it is possible to learn from someone else's mistakes... so we should always take in what they show us and see what the lesson in it really is.

Loving the new videos man with these key insights. Any chance you can do a video series showing all the best takedowns from different inside and outside positions (ie collar ties, over / under, Double Under, inside ties, over ties, two on ones, etc). Would be great to see the different attack and counter attack options available from these different positions. 🙏

Have had something in the works for a while now, but keep refining it. Will have a nice handfight breakdown coming soon, but included in my first instructional launch in June will be a sort of "handfight bible" breakdown that I think will resolve most of the confusion surrounding the subject. I know it's confusing for most. Appreciate your support Blake!

Hey Coach Adam, could you make a video about scrambling? Like the fundamentals, when it's a good time to go for it and maybe how to prevent a successful scramble from your opponent?
