The single most important message you can send to anyone getting into this game is to treat your limit like its NOT your money. If you can get into that mindset, it doesnt matter what your credit limit is. It could be infinity for all we care. Then and only then will it not matter how many credit cards you have.

Downgrade card with annual fee to a card with no annual fee, set up an amazon allowance of 1$ per month to keep the card alive and set up autopay on the card. Always better to keep a card than cancel, especially if it has no annual fee. For the platinum card there is no downgrade path with no annual fee so you would be forced to cancel if it doesn’t make sense or get a different charge card from them. Also, don’t shred cards that are open.

Very true, apparently it's calendar year for older signups, but new signups won't have that. I guess too many people abusing that...

Graham I’m loving your channel! A public service request. Could you make sure to explicitly state up front in all your credit card videos that to be using credit card hacking responsibly you need to be able to pay any charges you make at the end of each month? For the young people who may not have the proper caution you could be doing them a disservice by not making this screamingly clear right off the bat. It’s a seriously slippery slope when you are someone with lowish income being told they need to spend $2000 or $3000 in 90 days to get these perks. I know you’ve said it, but people you have to pay those cards off at the end of each month.

Not sure if this has been said in the comments already, but you mentioned that you can downgrade the Amex Platinum to a free Amex card, which isn't the case. The Platinum can only be downgraded to the Gold or Green and both of those carry annual fees. Just something to keep in mind when opening the Plat - Only way to rid yourself of an annual fee will be to cancel.

Enjoy the video. I'm going to be doing a good amount of travel this year and was considering one of the premium credit cards. I'm based in Philly and i'm finding the lounge access most provide to not be as beneficial other than the amex platinum but am having a hard time with the idea that the AMEX perks are harder to spend unless you fly alot. Just looking for some nice perks as I travel to FLA, Germany and others this year. Thanks for the info.

Great video! I thought Chase changed the travel credit to your card anniversary? Is that why you blended it? lol
@GrahamStephan6 жыл бұрын
Nope! Travel credit is per calendar year, thankfully...blended it for other reasons ;)
