The wisteria at 7:30 is an impressive tree even without flowers - quite a feat to achieve! I love having the opportunity to visit an international show from the comfort of my home - no international travel or passport required, thank you!

Loved the private tour and unobstructed views. Thank you. Your Miniature Bonsai Zone had quite the prominent placement. It looked wonderful and inviting!!! The Bog Forest told its story well and, the Bird’s Nest looked beautiful, very proper and dignified! The stand was a good choice. Thank you also for ALL the cinematography effort and work, sharing and narrating. Nigel. you and the Bonsai Zone, chickens, ducks, cats and bunnies are a gift and very much appreciated. Live long and prosper🖖🪴🪴🪴

Thank you for this Sir Nigel!!! What a great way to start my day! It was nice that you were able to give us a private tour. I'm now convinced of getting a crab apple and wisteria this year. I'm really happy you've shown the suiseki. I'm actually studying how to make the bases. I also loved that we all got new accent ideas! I'm sure you'll tell us how your bench did. You know we're dying to know. Thank you again!!!

Hard to pick a favorite from such a fine show. I always fall for the flowers. Amazing wisterias - both in full bloom and just starting to put out leaves and flowers. Wow! And the crab apples, gorgeous! But my biggest inspiration may have been the accent plants, because I realized that I can dig up some nice little plants in my garden and have them on my city balcony in some nice pots. I'm definitely going to do that.

Great idea! To share an idea in kind... I've built shelves for a garden on my mom's balcony. Utilize the walls, and you could hang shelves from the ceiling in front of the glass.

My favorite of this show is at 24:11, the formal upright. It always surprises me how few formal uprights there are these days. They are the icon of the hobby and very difficult to get right. I suppose that is why so few of them make it to shows.

There were 2 surprises for me. #1 I didn't see any jade or portulacaria afra in the show video's. #2. I was surprised to see so many trees there with wires on them. My understanding was that wires were a major no-no on trees at shows. 🤔🤔

It was shocking to hear that Ross has passed away. I remember him from your videos together. Hard to believe that he didn't make it to the shows this year. He seemed like a really nice guy. It is wonderful that the deceased Bonsai people are remembered with a memorial table. I wish you would make a talk about how Bonsai trees are treated after their owner, not just in case of death, but if the owner just can't keep them any more, because of moving house or health reasons making their care impossible. If an old tree is passed to a new owner, how long does it keep "the name" of its grower? And what are all the ways that trees find new homes? Thanks for the video, once again. Your work bench collection was really different than anything else. Landscaping is clearly your specialty. And the bear got to the show too, ha ha! A little bit of humor is needed in Bonsai, I think. Did the bear really sit in the show or just in the video? I'm guessing it was just in the video, but I hope I'm wrong.

That's an interesting idea!!! It's like you'd have to be a part of a club, if you don't have someone in your life that can take over. I mean they could be sold, but who really wants to sell their collection. I've never thought of adding plant instructions to my will, but I "will" now.

Hi, Ross' son here. This is a bit late to reply, but thank you for your kind words. Hopefully I can give a bit of insight on the process! I can't speak for every bonsai owner, but in my Dad's case we held a silent auction that all TBS and KW members were invited to, with all the proceeds going to charity. We wanted to prioritize the trees all getting good homes with passionate people, the silent auction aspect was mostly to keep things from getting chaotic. A few of the easier to maintain trees went to family members who were inspired to pick up the hobby themselves, myself included (a lovely gollum jade in my case). I like to think of "legacy trees" as each having a story of their own, with each caretaker leaving their own unique mark on it.

@@AndrewFullerton My condolences once again and thank you for your reply. This KZbin thing is funny - with its communities (or "communities"?). I follow mostly common people, far less celebrities, and Nigel I consider my Canadian neighbor (all the way from Finland), whose doings I check out almost every day as if I was peeping out from between my curtains. I'm not even a bonsai person, just a hobby gardener with some indoor plants too, but I have learned so much about plant care and about Canadian (and world) flora and fauna over here. Truly amazing! As is also to get to know a bunch of potters and Nigel's fellow bonsai growers. So, when somebody is gone it is a little bit like a loss of a friend. Here we really get to see the development of individual plants and as their growers reappear we learn something about their style too. So, it is good to know that their plants find new caring homes and maybe we will see some of them in KW or Toronto shows in the future as well. Every time I plant a new tree or shrub in my garden I wish it will live long after me and be appreciated by people I knew and also by some that I never met. I just got a Magnolia to plant next to the stub of a very old Birch that we had to cut down, because it was becoming a danger to anyone getting close. Difficult decision and a really big cut, but there will be new life beside the old. I wish you all the best.
