What I want to know is if Yahweh is all knowing then he should have known they would’ve never reached the heavens. The tallest building today is the Burj Khalif which is 828m tall that’s 172m shy of 1km and space is 100km (62 miles) straight up. Using mud bricks would have never been able to support the load of the building not to mention that the higher they go the air gets thinner, the oxygen level drops and the temperature drops too. They wouldn’t even be able to stand there let alone work there. So let’s say they reach space (forgetting all the problems from being able to breath, not freeze to death and that their building design and materials work) not only do you have to take 100km/62 miles of stairs up as there is no elevators they would be so disheartened when all they see is black (not mention there’s no air or gravity). They would think how much further must we go to reach the heavens? Yahweh being all knowing would know all this so there is no reason to stop them and split everyone up but changing their language, just let them go as they wouldn’t have reached the Burj Khalif’s 828m let alone the heavens. That’s why this story always seemed stupid to me and just comes across as man’s excuse to why do we have so many different languages

If you chose to die by your own hand you commit sin. If we are talking about dying for others than that is understandable since it is for the sake of others, but that will no longer be for heaven but for the sake of others. Some may not be ready for heaven some haven't repent, some may have unfinish business and are not ready to go to the next life. Maybe the next life will not be their heaven but hell.

Slight problem with your theory. God did not confuse the languages. Cuneiform was used to write down something like three different languages including ancient Hittite, Sumerian and Akkadian if I recall correctly. The reason many different cultures have similar stories of the Gods is actually because they traded with each other and invaded one another.

Throughout history, when people in large region become unified, their capabilities are indeed amplified. They become capable of great projects such as the Great Wall or The city of Constineople. However, these large empires were also responsible for some of the greatest catastrophes in human history. With a unified people, the power that such unification brings tend to rest in the hands of the few who govern them. The holders of such powers rarely use it responsibly.
@DrWongburger

Yes that is most correct. In Chinese traditions, the idea of the mandate of heaven overlaps with these very same concepts. The powers that be exist purely because of this concept of a mandate of heaven. Similar to the later European Christian concept of 'God's will be done'. Of course this was meant to legitimize actions or political events in Europe, while in China the concept was used to legitimize dynasties. With the Chinese it was and in some places still is believed that should the present rulers fail this mandate, the gods and goddesses of heaven will make clear this disapproval. Perhaps even by natural disasters, famines, or war. Sounds much like God himself of the Christian tradition.

@@RuiWang-zm2ue Maybe so, maybe so. Do not get me wrong, I care for my national identity, and I even may have some undue sinful pride about it. However a critical analysis of the era of nationalism stirs something in me. By far, the age of nationalism along with all the other -isms have clearly been the most tumultuous and deadly era of our collective existence. Of course correlation doesn't equal causation, though I cannot help believe the link between the spread of nationalism and how much deadly our warfare has become is pure coincidence. Wars went from thousands dead, to millions in a span of a few short relative years. Focus in warfare had also shifted from a focus on opposing forces to a focus on civilian populations. Many people across the world have died only for the sake of nationhood. Much more than in most of the wars past. I suspect many more shall follow as we watch Ukraine (another example though a complex one), shed its blood for the sake of nationhood. Globalized governance may be a pipe dream of the power hungry, but perhaps it may also usher in a new era of peace free from petty conflicts. As for whether God would want this of us? Well, Thy will be done.
@RuiWang-zm2ue
@RuiWang-zm2ue 2 жыл бұрын
@@DrWongburger when nations stop fighting one another and learn to live together in peace, globalized governance will come into being naturally. If you allow a boiling mixture to cool, it will eventually settle into a homogenized state. However, if you try to compress it while it is still hot, the whole thing might blow up in your face. God isn’t going to force people together if they are not ready to be together. After all, God has all the time in the universe.

In the Bible, the reason why the tower of Bable was bad was because after the flood, god told humans to spread over the whole earth. The tower was made in direct defiance of that heavenly order. Also in the Book of Jasher it mentions the mind set of the builders. It says that there were 3 schools of thought among them, 1 group wanted to reach heaven to fight with god, the other group wanted to reach heaven so they could replace god with their own idols, the last group wanted to get to heaven to kill god. When god sent his angels to destroy the tower, he made all the people who wanted to kill god die by falling, being burned in the fires the angels set in the tower or die by the hand of humans in the confusion. The group that wanted to replace god with their own idols were turned into wild animals by the angels. The first group who wanted to fight with god had their languages confused and the ones who were scattered.

The tower of babel reached an eye watering height of 8,150 feet based on the texts. It dwarfs anything standing today. Whats interesting is that there is a stone tablet in sumaria that talks about the flood. And was in a different language. So there were multiple languages before the flood. So the ancient standing stone structures that have writing inside, and many of the writings around the world that cannot be decipherd. Some of them were pre flood. Which I find extremely interesting. But more to the point this comment isn't relevant to the video.

Y'know the Tower of Babel story gets more eerie when you remember that Babylon didn't know or consider the Abrahamic god as even existing. They believed in a pantheon and had an entirely different view of the heavens than Abrahamic religions do, so then they were punished by a deity they didn't even acknowledge or an entirely different deity where now this one takes credit.

I think the mixing up of language is similar to what often happens in committee/team/relationships where ideas, values, philosophies, ideals, etc come to the surface and are shown to be very different. So while there may be a common idea of sorts to start a project, in this case build a tower, the cohesion among the group falls apart as their opinions vary so greatly, ie politics. We see it happening again and again. Even between two people who love each other but whose values may be worlds apart making them incompatible, ie kids or not, high life or quiet life, this country or that.

It wasn’t a tower, it was a ziggurat. It had nothing to do with physical height, but rather, summoning deity. They wanted to summon the Creator and have Him answer for destroying the earth with the flood. The Israelites understood that what the 200 Watchers did was a *bad* thing. The Mesopotamians thought that what the Watchers (they called them Apkallu) did was a *good* thing.

I agree. Although there isn't a large amount of written eyewitness accounts of the migration to Sumer from Arartu, one can assume from the tower accounts in Genesis and other non canon texts that most of Noah's descendants had turned away from the Creator. Couple this reasoning with Sumerian texts that evidence a strong cultural desire for knowledge of technologies known only to the gods (the Mes), and then consider the Enochian texts that claim every technological advances man knew before the flood was taught him by the watchers;. Post flood, man only retained a portion of that knowledge, and became resentful. The tower was built to call new watchers from the heavens. And man continued to build them, on every continent, after the confusing of tongues.

@@akaabbs259 first, I would like to say my first post was simply a joke and I never intended to upset anyone but second the rest of your arguments are based off of theoretics. It is probable that the truely historically accurate tower of babel was simply a construct to appease a king or even a local deity and might very well of had connection to sacrifice. How ever it is likely that the story from the Bible is simply that... A story. A story from a people who thought themselves the center of the universe and we're attempting to understand why everyone was different and talked different. Then we have to accept either that god is all powerful and all knowing and knew we would fail and punished us despite this or that god made us in his image and we are both imperfect beings.

Something you may have missed. This was about 100 years after the flood of Noah. 8 people were saved while millions of disobedient people died. Those that died were disobedient. They didn't want to obey God. After the flood, this same spirit developed. People wanted to do their own thing, and not have to obedient to God. Civilization (Noah's Family) followed the Tigress River valley south out of the Mountains of Ararat. With abundant water and crop land, it was great, but the seasonal flooding was used by leadership, (Nimrod), to bring fear upon people as a threat from God. They built escape platforms, solid structures, as escape ramps from rising water. Ziggurats had no internal rooms. Anywhere civilization moved after that in the vicinity of water had these 'flood prevention' escapes on the outside. This may help you elaborate on what you are finding.

I wonder if there is any connection between the tower of babel and the development ancient pictographic writing. There is at least some evidence that Babel was built between 3500 & 3000 BC which seems to coincide with the dates of cuneiform, the oldest writing we have around 3400 BC. Has there been any research to see if the two are connected? It seems at least plausible that people of different languages could develop a rudimentary communication system using pictures.

He created us with free will to make our own paths. So any evil that befalls us would be of our own making. Yeah, in the bible he's occasionally helped out, but most of the time he tries not to get involved, or at least is only involved indirectly. So breaking into his domain is like saying 'hey, we're not satisfied, get down here', and if you've read the bible he has emotions. He can get irritated. I'm sure he admired his own creations and what they could achieve. He hated their intentions. They were creating a mega rome basically. Imagine the class division there would have been. And they said, go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered aboard upon the face of the whole earth. Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech. So the LORD scattered them aboard from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city. Very good.

Luke Chapter 9 1 Then he called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases. 2 And he sent them to preach the kingdom of God, and to heal the sick. 3 And he said unto them, Take nothing for your journey, neither staves, nor scrip, neither bread, neither money; neither have two coats apiece. 4 And whatsoever house ye enter into, there abide, and thence depart. 5 And whosoever will not receive you, when ye go out of that city, shake off the very dust from your feet for a testimony against them. 6 And they departed, and went through the towns, preaching the gospel, and healing every where. 7 Now Herod the tetrarch heard of all that was done by him: and he was perplexed, because that it was said of some, that John was risen from the dead; 8 And of some, that Elias had appeared; and of others, that one of the old prophets was risen again. 9 And Herod said, John have I beheaded: but who is this, of whom I hear such things? And he desired to see him. 10 And the apostles, when they were returned, told him all that they had done. And he took them, and went aside privately into a desert place belonging to the city called Bethsaida. 11 And the people, when they knew it, followed him: and he received them, and spake unto them of the kingdom of God, and healed them that had need of healing. 12 And when the day began to wear away, then came the twelve, and said unto him, Send the multitude away, that they may go into the towns and country round about, and lodge, and get victuals: for we are here in a desert place. 13 But he said unto them, Give ye them to eat. And they said, We have no more but five loaves and two fishes; except we should go and buy meat for all this people. 14 For they were about five thousand men. And he said to his disciples, Make them sit down by fifties in a company. 15 And they did so, and made them all sit down. 16 Then he took the five loaves and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed them, and brake, and gave to the disciples to set before the multitude. 17 And they did eat, and were all filled: and there was taken up of fragments that remained to them twelve baskets. 18 And it came to pass, as he was alone praying, his disciples were with him: and he asked them, saying, Whom say the people that I am? 19 They answering said, John the Baptist; but some say, Elias; and others say, that one of the old prophets is risen again. 20 He said unto them, But whom say ye that I am? Peter answering said, The Christ of God. 21 And he straitly charged them, and commanded them to tell no man that thing; 22 Saying, The Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be slain, and be raised the third day. 23 And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. 24 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it. 25 For what is a man advantaged, if he gain the whole world, and lose himself, or be cast away? 26 For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he shall come in his own glory, and in his Father's, and of the holy angels. 27 But I tell you of a truth, there be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the kingdom of God. 28 And it came to pass about an eight days after these sayings, he took Peter and John and James, and went up into a mountain to pray. 29 And as he prayed, the fashion of his countenance was altered, and his raiment was white and glistering. 30 And, behold, there talked with him two men, which were Moses and Elias: 31 Who appeared in glory, and spake of his decease which he should accomplish at Jerusalem. 32 But Peter and they that were with him were heavy with sleep: and when they were awake, they saw his glory, and the two men that stood with him. 33 And it came to pass, as they departed from him, Peter said unto Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias: not knowing what he said. 34 While he thus spake, there came a cloud, and overshadowed them: and they feared as they entered into the cloud. 35 And there came a voice out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him. 36 And when the voice was past, Jesus was found alone. And they kept it close, and told no man in those days any of those things which they had seen. 37 And it came to pass, that on the next day, when they were come down from the hill, much people met him. 38 And, behold, a man of the company cried out, saying, Master, I beseech thee, look upon my son: for he is mine only child. 39 And, lo, a spirit taketh him, and he suddenly crieth out; and it teareth him that he foameth again, and bruising him hardly departeth from him. 40 And I besought thy disciples to cast him out; and they could not. 41 And Jesus answering said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you, and suffer you? Bring thy son hither. 42 And as he was yet a coming, the devil threw him down, and tare him. And Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, and healed the child, and delivered him again to his father. 43 And they were all amazed at the mighty power of God. But while they wondered every one at all things which Jesus did, he said unto his disciples, 44 Let these sayings sink down into your ears: for the Son of man shall be delivered into the hands of men. 45 But they understood not this saying, and it was hid from them, that they perceived it not: and they feared to ask him of that saying. 46 Then there arose a reasoning among them, which of them should be greatest. 47 And Jesus, perceiving the thought of their heart, took a child, and set him by him, 48 And said unto them, Whosoever shall receive this child in my name receiveth me: and whosoever shall receive me receiveth him that sent me: for he that is least among you all, the same shall be great. 49 And John answered and said, Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name; and we forbad him, because he followeth not with us. 50 And Jesus said unto him, Forbid him not: for he that is not against us is for us. 51 And it came to pass, when the time was come that he should be received up, he stedfastly set his face to go to Jerusalem, 52 And sent messengers before his face: and they went, and entered into a village of the Samaritans, to make ready for him. 53 And they did not receive him, because his face was as though he would go to Jerusalem. 54 And when his disciples James and John saw this, they said, Lord, wilt thou that we command fire to come down from heaven, and consume them, even as Elias did? 55 But he turned, and rebuked them, and said, Ye know not what manner of spirit ye are of. 56 For the Son of man is not come to destroy men's lives, but to save them. And they went to another village. 57 And it came to pass, that, as they went in the way, a certain man said unto him, Lord, I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest. 58 And Jesus said unto him, Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head. 59 And he said unto another, Follow me. But he said, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father. 60 Jesus said unto him, Let the dead bury their dead: but go thou and preach the kingdom of God. 61 And another also said, Lord, I will follow thee; but let me first go bid them farewell, which are at home at my house. 62 And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.

It's not that they built a tower too high or that God feared genuine, well-intentioned human ambition, but the coercion inherent within the unified tongue of all mankind acting as a hivemind singular organism. The scattering of speech reignited free will. No one ever asks about the people actually baking the bricks or participating in the construction of the tower or if they even wanted to do that with their lives, and everyone seems to forget that they didn't just share a language but also the words they were willing to speak: the people are one. The language is inherently commanding in its orders to construct, and it makes way more sense when you consider who the singular person is that got that whole project started and had others do all the work. Notice how the construction ended when they couldn't be manipulated by word-games anymore. There's no reason they couldn't mime the truth in a game of charades or postponed until a basic technical language of agreed-upon sounds for things could be constructed. Not enough of those people actually wanted to do any of that.

today i had one of the greatest revelations of my life. i was gifted by grace to realize, that human nature has been constant throughout 10000s of years, that it moves in cycle,pattern, that we are destined to repeat these tower of babel moments, as-long as we do not surrender our lives to the highest power, THE MOST HIGH, & find the light of the soul. if we abandon that for the mindpower,the heart or pride of man. G*d will fool us always, and let us build right before the peak, just for us to crash back to zero again. because we believed we were superior , we were greater then him, we were gods we can be all knowing and all powerful, which is a LIE. on this pride civilizations will always fall. are destined to always fall. the stories are all the same, the names and faces changes, but the stories are the same, its the same ping of the heart and emotions that brings destruction to these civilizations

Sumerian accounts thoroughly describe the true story of the Nephillim or fallen angel Marduk and his created city of Babylon where the spoke the word wide language of Sumerian built a launch tower to launch a shem (rocket/ or a muu) from the towers head to reach lord of the command Enlil's space craft and mission control in orbit in the heavens/space to attack. The Sumerian tablets that have been translated are so so very interesting and truly fill in the blanks to so many of histories un-answered mysteries so blatantly and intentionally with help and kept from us. Although it should definitely be noted that even these falsely worshiped fallen Angelic beings or little g gods we were fooled in to worshiping believed in a one true creator god that even they believed and worshiped, so although it may change some beliefs it also helps to solidify the core belief of one true creator of all.
