There is a town in northern Honduras where fish rain from the sky during its annual rainy season. TV productions from all around the world tried to film this unbelievable phenomenon, but always failed to do so. I decided to spent 18 days in the town of Yoro and tried to become the first person in history to capture the incredible event.

@@WFSR-y2u Bro that’s just disrespectful, of all of the travel vloggers I’ve seen, Peter is more sincere and committed to making interesting/unique content than anyone. There are so many terrible content creators on KZbin, what would possess you to leave such a nasty comment here of all places 🤷‍♂️ it’s obvious a LOT of work and passion went into each of these episodes, this is his LIFE we are talking about, does he not deserve to earn a living like everyone willing to work hard?

Sure. Delete my comments all you want, but this video really let your viewers down. It just intentionally lies. You can't possibly tell me the villagers don't know that there's a permanent river north and west of their village 1KM away. I know you try to make a fun video, but them lying and you going along with it, pretty cheap.

I was originally thinking of meteorological conditions where fish literally get pulled up into the sky, like during hurricanes, etc. However, after seeing this and having experience with floods, I am almost positive that this is an old dried up riverbed, and somewhere higher in altitude, which could be miles away, the rain is causing a river or lake to overflow, and follow the old riverbed, bringing fish with it. It takes a rain that lasts for hours to cause it, and those are definite flood waters. The fact that it happens at the same place every time is just more proof. I would bet that if someone can find a very detailed topology report of the area, if one has been done, you will see an old riverbed that you can trace right back to the area where the fish are coming from. There has to be a river nearby somewhere, and by nearby, I mean, withing 50 miles or so probably. The first step is finding topology maps of the area. I don't know how big the riverbed is, to know if the resolution provided by satellite and shuttle base radar mapping would show it or not, but I would definitely start with that, then look for higher resolution topology. Once you have that, you can follow the riverbed, or lower elevation all the way to its source to know where it is coming from. I am sure others have already done this, just gotta do a bit of searching.

Even before the rains, the area that was shown as frequently “raining fish” appeared to be sort of marshy/swampy (standing ground water in shallow muddy pools, visible from the surface), if that’s the case, 4+ hours of torrential rain on already saturated soil is easily enough to cause a flood/large standing body of water that then gradually recedes into the earth

The rain simply create a river that brings the fish from an upper source to the roads. Nobody actually witnessed any fish "falling from the sky", they were carried by the temporary river created by the huge rainful.

It's not even a temporary river. There's an actual river north and west of the village. It overfloods when the rain is lasting long enough and it flows south towards the village. You can literally follow it on Google maps.

Here in Rhode Island back in the 1920’s there was a bad storm that lasted only a few minutes. After it cleared up hundreds of live fish (mostly bass) fell from the sky. It turned out a tornado 🌪 dropped over a nearby pond sucking up all the fish and dropping them several miles away. That’s the only time tho, not every year!

There is a meteorological phenomenon (most often observed at the beginning of the “rainy season” as noted in this episode) I read about it many years ago, and the gist of it was, that under very special conditions of temperature, humidity, barometric pressure, etc., storm-fronts with high winds have the capacity to create a sort of “inverted funnel” updraft effect upon an area of water that is so strong it lifts many many gallons of water (and whatever was swimming in them) up into the stratosphere, at which point the (rapidly moving) storm front will continue onward (fish, water, and all) until the storm loses enough momentum that the updraft is no longer enough to counteract gravity and the water (and fish) literally fall out of the sky in a deluge, almost as if someone had poured a bucket of water on you from the story above where you are walking on the street. It’s very difficult to predict, and the same phenomenon has actually resulted in hail (pieces of solid ice formed in certain types of storms) have traveled dozens or hundreds of miles from the original site of the storm, to a totally different type of biome that is dominated by dirt/sand/very high temperatures & never sees snow (essentially the Middle East, I think around Saudi Arabia) yet in the past 50-75 years there have been numerous accounts (again hard to forecast) of ice raining down in the middle of the dessert 🤷‍♂️😳
@HicSvntDracones
@HicSvntDracones Жыл бұрын
That does happen, but I am pretty sure that isn't what is going on here, usually when it rains fish, frogs, etc, they fall onto dry land, in this instance, they are showing up in heavy flowing flood water. At some point, up in the mountains or somewhere, is a river or lake, that is overflowing, creating the flood waters you see, bringing the fish with it. They aren't falling from the sky.

Kinda have to if they land in places where there normally is no water, storms/hurricanes can lift things, i also think there is a reason the fish are all very small in size (they say catfish fall also, but catfish can get very big and you don't ever see big catfish, because of the weight only the young catfish can travel like that it makes logical sense)
@Juuk-D
@Juuk-D Жыл бұрын
Also seeing/recording fish falling would be insanely hard since gravity would make them fall in seconds so you only have a second to actually catch it in action, it's not like a continues rain it's more of a dump at once from the hurricane/storm to actually see them fall you need to be at the right spot at the right time and that's not easy predicting where the storm will carry, how far and what day and time it exactly happens that's why no video of them actually falling exist, the odds someone has a camera or phone out in a huge storm recording a spot of no significance randomly and catches the fish falling would be insane, especially for people that aren't doing amazing (Economic, average wealth)

im pretty sure, since this is a fairly small and unknows aswell as poor community / city, they try to make themselfs known as "the town where it rains fish" by placing small fish of all kind into the water / rivers so they can attract tourist and get some money in (but im just asuming..)

@@WhozBrokenHD i find your reasoning very strange in that case. the fish rain has occured in several places, there are no bodies of water nearby... where would a small town get that many live fish from each year? you could see in the video how many there were, buying them would cost them more than it would bring them. if it was for tourism purposes they would place fish in the water anytime it rains and not just at random moments. furthermore, there were only locals around in peter's video, i doubt with the state honduras is in that they have a tourism industry to begin with. to assume that these people are poor and are trying to scam tourists seems like an insult to me, they seemed like a happy rural community, not like dirt poor people with nothing going for them

what 😂 so they waited until raining season, expected a random youtuber to hear about this myth, then gather a bunch of fish and throw them in the flooded areas in exchange for what precisely? 15 minutes of fame?

I would think the fish come from ponds or waterways in those hills and mountains. The storm may be creating a waternado like a tornado then dropping it all on the land and the fish get into the flooded areas from the storm. Pretty cool. I would say the setup of the shapes and sizes etc of the hilly terrain maybe perfect for the waternado to form on a regular basis each year 😊👍🙏 it sure is a blessing to the locals 😊🌸 watching from NewZealand 🌸

Fish falling from the sky is very rare, but is well documented and understood. About 10 miles from my house, some 30 years ago, a tornado sucked all the water out of a pond. Nobody knows where that pond’s fish fell, but they had to fall somewhere. Similarly, a waterspout over a lake or out at sea sucks up scads of fish.
