Jake is bad interviewer - he gives his interviewee the answer he wants rather than going with the answer they gave. He also spends his time half listening and prepping his next question rather than listening so that he can react to what was just said. So Rio took things in an interesting direction with his grief discussion and mentoring people within the dressing room, Jake just brings it back to an embarrassing 'this is my first week in radio producing' line of questioning... Rio then just moves on and gets back to what he was just talking about with Kate and the kids...

I never understood why talking was so important. I would always hear people say that it's good to talk and i would genuinely always ask myself: But why? It's common advice but does it actually help at all? Are people just bullshitting trying to sound like they're helping? It was only when i finally went to therapy that i understood why talking is good. It's relief. Your chest starts to feel lighter. If you're anything like me, the weight of all the emotions you've repressed for many years starts to alleviate. So i couldn't agree more with Rio: communication is so, so important -- for dealing with grief, for feeling better about yourself, for if you're feeling depressed, for relieving anger, for everything. Anyone that's struggling: try talking to someone. Whoever you feel comfortable talking to, doesn't matter. You will be a better, happier person for it!

When Rio mentioned when he was in the QPR dressing room and they were more pre occupied about asking how much the other earns..that reminded me of what I’ve seen in the Beckham Netflix doc! When Beckham went to La Galaxy they were in dire straits..near bottom of the league. And they interviewed a couple of the players who mentioned they would spend time timing how long becks would spend in the club toilets to work out how much he was earning when he was in there! They worked out he was still earning more in those minutes than them in in a whole season! Instead of concentrating on upping their game!
@sgu02nsc66 Жыл бұрын
I mean, depending on your ability with maths, it only takes a minute or so to calculate that. If you’re avoiding that minimal level of cognitive ability you’re brainwashed rather than focussed. The point is, how do you deal with that information? If one thought is “that’s outrageously disparate considering we are all kicking a ball on a field”, then to be fair, they have a point to highlight that nonsense in my view.
@Slim_45 Жыл бұрын
@@sgu02nsc66 Not sure what to make of your first paragraph! Timing Beckham’s shit breaks to work out how that translates to his earnings is rather a unproductive use of time especially when it could be spent focusing on your game! And, yes…they are all kicking a ball around a field! But along with professional sports comes salaries, sponsorships and endorsements. This is normally determined by the ability and marketability of a player. In Beckham’s case, not only was he a superior footballer to the rest of that team in 2007/08..(despite being mid 30’s) he was a much larger commercial entity. So why would he not earn more? I mean that would make sense, depending on your “cognitive abilities” for common sense and reasoning lol!
@sgu02nsc66 Жыл бұрын
@@Slim_45 well, my first paragraph is self explanatory; sorry you’re having trouble with that. As for being able to command a high wage, yes you’re right, it can be argued for. It can also be argued that such degree of disparity makes a team cohesive difficult. Beckham still needs 10 others to do his job on the pitch. So, in conclusion: I feel it’s ok to spend a minute to comically highlight how much a club that pays wages, is paying Beckham to take a shit. You feel that that is somehow too damaging for the club. Guess we’ll agree to disagree.
@Slim_45 Жыл бұрын

@ciarandavis1651 Жыл бұрын
I disagree about Cole. Yes he was skilled and in today's game would have had more freedom, but ultimately he sacrificed for the team and won trophies. For me that's what the game is about.
@SonnyK248 Жыл бұрын
@@ciarandavis1651 Joe Cole should have been the next Zola or a player like that. He should have reached the level players like Gerrard and Rooney did where they had their own teams built around them where they were the star. He was about 21 when he went to Chelsea and spent a few years in a wing rotation with Duff and Robben. Then they signed Shevchenko and Ballack and kind of abandoned playing with wingers completely and then he had no real role there. It’s a real shame because like I said we had Rooney’s and Owens and Gerrard’s coming through who looked like super prospects at a very young age and seemed to be can’t miss. Cole was one of those and it just never happened for him unfortunately. If he maybe went to a club like Spurs first like Carrick did and then made the big move later then his career could have been very different. Then he could have walked into Spurs as one of the teams best players right off the bat and made the team his own over time. He went to Chelsea right after the Abramovic takeover and was one of about 12 star players who came through the door.
