@gravel92705 ай бұрын
@@RennieAsh Yeah that too. I remember reading about an experiment about birds, I think, where they put fake coral snakes with certain coloration and the birds were avoiding it. These birds are hatched and raised captivity therefore never seen an actual coral snake before. It was suggested the fear was most likely genetic. Another study experimented on birds by giving them fake butterflies. Whenever these birds would get close, these fake butterflies would suddenly open their wings to reveal the colorful inside which scared the birds.

@MachetesAreFun4 жыл бұрын
@Slush I actually thought this was a misidentified Monarch but then I saw thicker black patterns at the tips of the forewings when the spider cut it loose and the ecosystem was different so I knew it was a relative of the Monarch. The caterpillar looks similar to the Monarch too in the final instar. I don't know that Monarch caterpillars do that barrier and excavating trick but I have reared them from eggs and when they are very small, they do eat patches of leaves and don't chew all the way through and don't eat from the edges until they are larger. I knew quite a lot about them already and I still learned new things from this video :) (also, in case anyone is wondering how the narrator knew the caterpillar/butterfly was male, the bulbous black spot on the vein of each of the hind wings indicates this. A female would not have that spot)
