We should accept that as a state we made multiple failed decisions and kept the individual priorities over the state’s priorities. I feel what’s holding the nation together is the nuclear asset and in my lifetime I see those assets to be sold and country to be dismantled. We have the example of Libya… But I guess we never learned from the history. @raftartv One recommendation… keep the topic narrow, you tried to cover a long period of history in 90min so it seemed like all over the place.

Condoned genocide in 1947 partition by Jinnah, 1971 east Pakistan genocide, butchering of US and West armies by their agents to impress Taliban in Afghanistan and collected ransom for prized, perceived catches of selected targets, killing children of own soldiers for impressing hardliners for hand over of targets to US on Cash and carry. Despite all these, still yearn for IMF loans.

USA had supplied arms and ammunitions to Pakistan under the condition that it could only be used to defend against the Soviet invasion and not against India. Pakistan during 1965 war used American arms to attack India. Therefore, the United Sates was fully justified to sanction arms embargo on Pakistan during the 1965 war.

The regime change operation against Imran Khan's government in Pakistan has been analyzed through various lenses, ranging from General Bajwa’s personal interests and deals with Nawaz Sharif to the fallout of critical decisions like the downing of Indian jets. While these points hold merit, they do not address the underlying reasons for the orchestrated shift in power. To truly understand this operation, it is essential to examine the global strategic imperatives, particularly those of the United States, and how they intersected with Pakistan’s geopolitical positioning. One of the narratives created around Imran Khan’s tenure was the claim that General Bajwa was against the downing of Indian jets and that this was a unilateral decision by Khan, which supposedly brought Pakistan dangerously close to a nuclear conflict. This served as a public-facing rationale to undermine the government. Similarly, fault lines like the alleged failure of the RTS system in the 2018 elections were exploited to provide PML-N with a narrative for future elections, including comparisons between 2018 and the anticipated 2024 elections. Furthermore, certain decisions, such as sending Khan to Russia in consensus with the military, were strategically leveraged to protect vested interests. The timing of Khan’s visit to Moscow coincided with heightened tensions between Russia and Ukraine, raising questions about the extent of intelligence sharing between Pakistan’s military leadership and the United States. It seems implausible that American intelligence, aware of Russia’s imminent invasion of Ukraine, did not relay this information to Pakistan. This visit, therefore, became a tool for both domestic and international agendas. The real catalyst for the regime change operation, however, lies in the United States’ strategic calculations concerning the Russia-Ukraine war. The U.S. was acutely aware of Russia’s intentions to invade Ukraine and had planned to prolong the conflict as part of its broader geopolitical strategy. To sustain a prolonged war effort, the U.S. needed reliable support for Ukraine from allied nations, including arms supplies from Pakistan and South Korea-both of which operate as de facto extensions of U.S. influence. Imran Khan posed a significant obstacle to these plans. His principled stance against allowing American bases in Pakistan, encapsulated in his “Absolutely Not” response, signaled a broader resistance to aligning Pakistan’s policies with U.S. strategic objectives. The U.S. administration, under President Biden, had already deprioritized the need for physical military bases in Pakistan, focusing instead on leveraging the country’s logistical and material support for the Ukraine conflict. Khan’s refusal to capitulate to these demands necessitated his removal to ensure compliance with U.S. objectives. It is important to note the ideological shift in U.S. foreign policy under President Biden compared to his predecessor, Donald Trump. Biden’s administration views Russia as a more immediate threat than China and places significant emphasis on protecting liberal values in Europe. This contrasts with Trump’s prioritization of countering China and his indifference to European liberalism, shaped by his white conservative ideology and America-first approach. By aligning the regime change operation with domestic political narratives and international strategic imperatives, the U.S. ensured a seamless transition to a government more amenable to its policies. General Bajwa’s collaboration with the PDM served mutual interests, including securing legal relief for PML-N leaders and perpetuating narratives to deceive the public. This dual approach-domestic manipulation and international realignment-ensured that Pakistan’s role in the prolonged Ukraine conflict was secured without significant resistance. In conclusion, the regime change operation against Imran Khan was not merely a product of internal power struggles or military machinations. It was a calculated move driven by U.S. strategic interests in the Russia-Ukraine war and Pakistan’s critical role in supporting the conflict. The narratives around domestic politics were carefully constructed to mask the broader geopolitical motives, ensuring public distraction and compliance. Understanding this operation requires a holistic view of how global power dynamics intersect with local political realities, reshaping Pakistan’s trajectory to align with external interests. While the U.S. succeeded in orchestrating a regime change in Pakistan, its attempt to impose a similar operation in South Korea met with failure. The democratic system the U.S. itself had installed in South Korea became a formidable barrier to its plans. For months, the U.S. pressured South Korea’s government to send arms shipments to Ukraine following the war’s escalation, but the South Korean leadership deflected these demands with various pretexts. This mirrors Pakistan’s Nawaz Sharif deferring Saudi Arabia’s request to send troops to Yemen by bringing the matter to parliament-a move reportedly influenced by U.S. instructions to prolong the Yemen conflict for its arms sales. In South Korea’s case, the U.S. ultimately resorted to contemplating martial law, but the move backfired as the robust democratic framework in South Korea, unlike Pakistan’s flawed structure, thwarted such attempts. The credit for Pakistan’s deficient democratic system largely lies with the military’s meticulous efforts over decades, which have shaped its current state.
@akshaysood16675 сағат бұрын
Good interview to understand Pakistan and thinking of its leadership Pakistan has deep structural issues highlighted by so many .I bring out a few of them . On Social front ( Islamism / excessively ideological moorings , Blasphemy type laws , women participation and education is low etc ) Economic ( deep inequalities, lack of land reforms , low tax to GDP ratio , a not very vibrant industry, etc ) Political ( too much of the Army , lack of Constitutionalism and Rule of Law , lack of democracy in parties , Punjabi domination of the country, lack of development of Institutions as Courts , Election Commission , Rights Commission etc etc ) . Obsession with Kashmir and lack of trade and normalcy with India is also strangulating Pakistan. Leadership in Pakistan knows it . But they are not able to walk the talk. Pakistan lives in a space with too much hatred for Bharat . Until you improve economy and deradicalise education system , no start will be made . Akshay India

There are whole books and documentaries on why it was necessary but I will give you a very practical example as a Pakistani American. Indian-run American restaurants, even when run by non-Hindus, do not serve beef but their vegetarian food is way better than anything in any Pakistani or even American restaurant. Pakistani American restaurants however do serve beef and their meat-based dishes are by far better than anything in Indian restaurants. It seems like a very small thing but you are seeing the whole culture reflected in this food that we not only are eating at home but are bringing to this country and feeding to its people. Knowing this do you not think we needed to be separate?
