The reason why Wallace and Gromit is so tied to Christmas, in my opinion, is because it just has that warm, cozy feeling of spending Christmas day with people you love to spend time with.

I distinctly remember watching A Matter of Loaf and Deaf on Boxing Day 2008. We were too busy to watch it on Christmas, I think, so my parents recorded it for us to watch the next day. It was definitely exciting for me, since I was a big fan of the series, and this was the first new film they'd released in a few years. (Coincidentally, Curse of the Were-Rabbit was actually the second film I ever saw in theaters)

I didn’t know Wallace and Gromit were so connected to Christmas in the UK. In the US, we watch a different type of stop-motion, in the form of Rankin/Bass’ holiday specials.

I like how your channel highlights traditions and culture unique to Britain. Between this, the tea monkey, and the Zoo Pals (I think that’s their name?), it introduces me to stuff I and others in the States and abroad would otherwise have no idea of (I know of Wallace and other Aardman cartoons but it’s nowhere near as popular as in the UK). Have a happy holiday and a prosperous new year, all!

I loved watching Wallace & Gromit: A Matter of Loaf and Death and Doctor Who: The Next Doctor together on Christmas day in 2008. I also loved that they both got to be the BBC One Christmas idents in 2008 and 2009, making my teenage years feel like our childhood would stay forever. It would truly be a Christmas miracle to have these two epic franchises together on Christmas day in the future, though I'm unsure which one would get to be the BBC One Christmas ident if it's on the same year.

I still remember eagerly watching A Close Shave on its Xmas premiere. It was definitely the point everyone realised these two were gonna take on. It's great the shorts remained a tradition for the festivities (and commonly air on other holidays like Easter as well), all the more wonderful that another film is being made to add to the rotation. We do at least have a Shaun the Sheep Xmas special, but it'd be cool if we got a proper W+G Xmas instalment one day.
@joeybaseball73522 жыл бұрын
They don't play Wallace and Gromit in America. They play football and basketball on Christmas here. Going to the movies used to be a big thing here in America. But since 2020, that tradition has died. And most companies have figured out, "why bother splitting the revenue with theaters, when we can get 100% of the revenue on our own streaming service?" So nowadays they release the movies directly to streaming on Christmas. Netflix actually did something weird, that apparently is going to be their new normal, they released the creepy Pinocchio movie & the Knives Out sequel in theaters, and then on netflix at Christmas.

I have memories of me & my Dad trying to catch an episode of Cracking Contraptions and being extremely disapointed when it was a re-run. I believe the series was created based off of a calendar in order to bridge the gap of content as Nick Park was busy with Chicken Run, and later Curse of the Were-Rabbit. There was actually a little tie-in web browser game based on one of idents from around the time of A Matter of Loaf & Death, I have distinct memories of it. Unfortunely due to Flash's death and numerous website updates, it's lost to time now.
@SomeBoiOnline2 жыл бұрын
Yeah it definitely was to provide some content whilst The Curse of the Were-Rabbit was being conceptualised. That's really interesting!

I watched A Close Shave and A Matter of Loaf and Death on premiere at Christmas, and A Grand Day Out and The Wrong Trousers on repeat, still at Christmas, before getting the official VHS releases, all separately in those days, boxsets weren't a big thing then. (They did exist in the VHS days, if anyone doesn't know, they were just rare, we have 2, one a Looney Tunes compilation, the other the 1995 BBC Pride and Prejudice series) Those VHS releases were the first home releases of something I ever bought. I still have them for the sentimental value of that. I also remember 20 years ago (agh!) rushing to set up the VCR to catch any showing of a Cracking Contraptions episode, ending up with a few doubles. It was only when The Curse of the Wererabbit was released on DVD that I finally saw the full set. Shaun the Sheep hasn't been as big a thing at Christmas for me, but it's Shaun, so I do check in. I got his advent calendar this festive season, for example. I still remember the Christmas episode where the flock set up a big day for the Farmer because he was going to be alone at Christmas. Sadder than that scene was Bitzer sobbing over it and Shaun comforting him. The feels! Edit: Oh, and I also got a Gromit plushie this time! Cracking!

That would be a cool idea actually. We SORTA got that with a couple of the Xmas themed Cracking Contraptions, as well as a Shaun the Sheep Xmas special, but no proper Xmas themed W+G short. Maybe after the upcoming one, it would fit the BBC format of a six episode series with an Xmas special at the end.
