He brought it up to connect with her and make her feel SEEN/KNOWN. At that point, nothing else needs to be said. At that point she can RESPECT Him. For a woman, when we have no example to respect, becoming known and seen is all that’s needed for us to switch gears and respect…. The void is having no one to respect. The wife will see to it that she RESPECTS her husband…. Maybe he’ll see and add this to his sermon one day.

Sometimes the volume of his voice drops out and you can’t hear what he says. Doesn’t speak up.

See, I don’t hear it that way…. He earned / awakened her respect totally in a single moment. They had a quiet intuitive understanding between themselves, and then she respected the messiah by asking Him where He thinks he/they/SHE should worship. She asked Him for the truth. Probably because she’s been confused about that too. I’m a little sad John uses this moment to slander her character further. He missed the element of respect that He awakened in her, so the next point is also slightly off. I don’t blame him though. You’d have to be the woman at the well to really understand. I hope he sees this one day. Ummm geography mattered greatly back then as it represented NATIONS. The Jews knew their identity based on the direction of their worship… Muslims are even like this today. So now he’s disregarding historical context to feed his angle. I know he’s smarter than this….. he’s filtering the end of of the sermons to suit today’s cultural perspective. This is the first time I’ve ever heard John Piper speak and miss something. He’s been my favorite preacher. Now I see I’ve outgrown even him. He’s correct, that’s not the issue. It’s the shadow he casts on her question about where to worship. She respected Jesus BEFORE she asked him where to worship. She asked her Lord what he thinks she should do. And He upgraded her understanding… why does she have to be bad mouthed…? She’s a victim of sexual abuse and exploitation and John showed no compassion for the woman at the well. I just think she deserves more respect than that. She BELIEVED immediately. She KNEW he was a prophet and said it out loud, then she asked for direction……… the point is that those who are most broken are the most loyal. He took the adulteress and made her LOYAL! So sad he missed these points. And to be honest, she could have been flirting with Jesus too! The entire interaction could have been flirtation, and he could have been wooing her soul the way it needed to be Mastered…. The woman at the well was so lucky to have such an intimate moment with the most attractive man that ever existed…. He danced with her….. and won her soul….
