Amazing & wonderful music score AM. The fall of a king indeed. I was riveted, like watching a movie. Leo's expressions, his fearfulness, his wounded body, all conveyed his utter despair and tragic physical and mental condition at the end of his life. Males can go through the highs and lows of troop life so much more than females. But Leo surely had a fulfilling life before he was ousted. He was indeed king of his domain!

Kind of surprised that he stayed for nine years. I had thought that 3-5 years was typical. As soon as the females he (or had a chance of) sired came of age to have their menarchy the old guard was out. But some do stay longer. I remember that one of you (the three videographers) posted video of when Grandee initially surfaced in front of one of your cameras. One could easily see the gauntness. The bewilderment. The edge of fear. He had not been accepted into a troop as yet. Only allowed to hang out on the periphery of, I think, the Parking Lot troop. It was so incredibly sad to me. This was Grandee. To watch him run away when there was food thrown to him because too many of the formal troop had seen. Wasn't right. I was almost relieved when a story came out that he was captured because he looked sick. Almost relieved that after examinations he was found to be truly in bad shape and the only thing to do was to euthanize him. No fear and bewilderment. Grandee who was the Alpha of the largest troop... ever. I understand why the males are ousted. From the young ones just attaining their young adulthood. To the older ones. The beaters. The betas. The alphas. Doesn't mean I have to like it. But it's not my world. Not my rules. I know that the African Savana is not the Lion King. That Bambi is just a story. That new alpha males of just about any species will sometimes kill the young of the recently ousted alpha male. That Orcas can be DIC*S to others in their vicinity. That some animals will willingly sacrifice one (or possibly more) of the young of their own group to ensure the survival of the group. So here's to Leo. To Grandee. To Ridgy. To the old grannys still hanging on. Etc. Et all.

I thought that it was Skullhead who was very ill with an abscess in his groin area, who was seized by the authorities (AFC Dept) in May 2022, and euthanized; which was recorded by MC on her channel, which was uploaded in June 2022. Did the same thing happen to Grandee?

@@debraleger2658 I agree, sadly and it gives me no great pleasure in saying this, but maybe it was for the best, that he was removed by the authorities and euthanized. These Rhesus monkeys have a life span of some 25 to 30 years, but this depends on what sources are consulted on the internet. AM in one of his videos, did describe a way of estimating the age of a monkey which IIRC was due to the mottling of the facial skin. So he could have been between 20 to 25 in the later stages of his life, but this is only an opinion. Other posters may well have a better way of telling what age he was.
