@Daisyxo no, that's where people are wrong. unfortunately, many don't feel that or are incapable. you're assuming they're neurologically and socially like you/others, but this case proves otherwise. maybe the one who was more of an accomplice, but I doubt it. when people ask "how can people like that sleep at night?" it's because they do not experience empathy or remorse. they do not have that reaction and so it's not a problem. it can be emulated for social interaction, but that response is not actually going on in their brain. and the fact that they were, as OP said, practically rewarded and safeguarded after committing such an awful crime would further allow for them to NOT harbor negative feelings towards their actions - in general and to a growing brain that could've been somewhat impacted by proper rehab and therapy if they weren't too far gone.

These children literally TORTURED this little boy, he was crying the entire time on the way to the train tracks, up until he died, and they still tortured him anyway. It doesn't matter that they were 10 years old and had a rocky childhood, yes its incredibly sad bc this definitely impacted their way of thinking etc., but the fact remains that they brutally tortured this little baby to death. Most murderers and serial killers start out by killing animals as children, but these children not only killed an actual human being, they tortured him in the most cruel and horrific ways. Once a person/child/adult/human reaches that point of complete lack of empathy and just any sense of humanity, there is no point of return. They knew what they were doing, they chose to do it. They went on as normal afterwards as if nothing happened and with no real sign of remorse. Imagine what they could be capable of doing as adults. The one has literally been arrested for possession of child pornography TWICE. Like I'm sorry, they should have been given life in prison because they do not deserve to be free and have a chance at happiness while that little boy lost his life, his parents lost their baby and those kids must be scarred for life after stumbling onto the most gruesome scene of his mutilated body. So many people's lives were changed by this, but they were given a free 'holiday' which was probably much better than their home life before and now anonymity to live amongst people who have no idea what they are capable of. He pleaded guilty via video link to three charges of making indecent images of children, and one of possessing a "paedophile manual", that included advice for would-be child molesters, including instructions on child grooming and evading detection.” “He admitted being in possession of 392 category A, 148 category B, and 630 category C child pornography images, and was sentenced to three years and four months in prison. In September 2020, he was denied parole.” Why they keep protecting this vile creature who is clearly a danger to society is beyond me.

It seems to me like the punishment of their every day lives leading up to the murder is what caused them to behave the way they did so I’m genuinely confused as to why people think even more punishment would do anything to reshape them into better people. They did something terribly unspeakable, yes, obviously, but that doesn’t mean they weren’t also victims themselves. I’d imagine that they felt they were being punished just for existing every single day of their lives and further punishment would do nothing but make them worse. I can understand why people think locking them away and tossing the key would be a solution for people who are fearful of potentially being effected by any future actions, but in my opinion everyone who is capable of rehabilitation should be given the opportunity for recovery. What I can’t understand is how people can be aware of how badly they had both suffered prior to this act, which was clearly a result of how deeply broken they were and as devastating as it is that James and his family has to suffer so much as a result, but ultimately that will never change the fact that both boys were severely neglected and had slipped through the cracks of society which left them in a position to inflict such harm in the first place. This is a situation where it’s clear why they may have thought what they did was reasonable up until the part they realized that it wasn’t and they thought they’d be in even more trouble if they didn’t dispose of the body, which is a result of their age and lack of awareness. They weren’t blatant monsters as can be easily suggested for many other cases; they were disturbed and prone to hostile situations based on their upbringing and all the violence they’ve witnessed and had inflicted upon them. I want to reiterate that none of this excuses what they did by any means, but I still believe it needs to be taken into account and I can’t help but suggest it’s possible that what they physically did to James is what those two boys were internally experiencing emotionally. The justice system definitely failed these boys, only it wasn’t any decisions after the murder and trial that facilitated the reason for this failure, instead it was the fact they were left in a situation that’s unfit and unsafe for a child, allowing them to experience such injustice in their daily lives, and culminated in the mental deterioration that provoked them to act out on their frustrations by taking that anger out on poor, innocent, sweet James. May he Rest In Peace. I hope those boys (men) are able to continue getting the appropriate help they so clearly need, otherwise, yes, there is always the likelihood that they could continue to pursue immoral choices as an outlet. The harsher they’re punished can never bring James back and change what happened, but it’s still an opportunity for them to have been removed from the destructive lives they were forced into as children and finally allow them a chance to grow up and do something positive with their lives. It may be too late to have helped them before they caused harm, but because the privilege of having a healthy childhood had been robbed from them so early in life at no fault of their own, it’s not too late to restore their right to an environment that allows them to grow into the best people they can be despite the circumstances, which maybe will someday bring more good to this world if they’re able to be a positive advocate for other children who are currently experiencing such conditions right now as I write this, and any other future children forced to try their best to thrive in similarly unjust circumstances.

@misskrystyna50383 жыл бұрын
I have explained that to my son as well. BUT, I think it is more implied that if an adult tries to take you to scream, and hold on tight to the largest item (chair, table) near you as possible. Before seeing this I could never imagine that children could harm a baby like that. My 2 year old sometimes played with the 9-10 year olds at the park, (while I was watching him) because they thought he was so cute. I feel as though most 4th-5th graders liked my son looking up to them and chasing them around because it was obvious he thought they were older and cool. This story breaks my heart in so many ways. It makes me wonder what was really going on at home in the houses of both the 10 year olds to even give them this idea. Perhaps they were getting severely abused and sexually assaulted as well. That’s not an excuse, but perhaps just reasoning. The poor 2 year old and his Mom/family. It breaks my heart!

Call me some do-gooder, but you don’t solve problems like crime by brutalizing and showing deep cruelty to offenders. Punishment has its place in the prison system but you can’t just make this the sole focus. There has to be some element of tackling the problems that led them to do the crime in the first place. Otherwise you’re just creating a loop of committing crime, prison and being released. As an overall trend, countries which focus on rehabilitation as well as punishment, and which have robust social and welfare programs in society to support the less fortunate, have better recidivism statistics and less overall chance of any offender returning to prison. 75% of prisoners in the US, which has a serious thing for pure punishment and even cruelty to prisoners, will return to prison, whilst Norway has a 20% recidivism rate and a far bigger emphasis on rehabilitating prisoners to re-enter society.

They did. You cannot commit such horrible acts without realizing what you are doing. Children aren't innocent by default, they can be pretty nasty. They have less impulse control than adults and don't think as much about the long-term consequences. They apparently thought they'd get away with it once they'd put James on the railroad tracks, ignorant about what forensic science can do, and that, at age 10, they were old enough to be tried in court. If they hadn't been abolished in 1982, they would have ended up in one of those Borstal institutions. They worked a lot like adult prisons, with discipline, education programs and chores -- and bullying and blanket parties. Fellow detainees would have included boys and young men up to 21 years of age, in rare cases, even 22- and 23-year-olds could be confined to a Borstal. Thompson and Venables would have been worked over and over again once it became known what they had done.

I remember reading of this case years ago and one of the most traumatizing aspects to the story was that there were witnesses that saw little james crying and falling over being pushed onwards by these animals. My heart especially shatters thinking of this now, knowing how innocent he was, knowing how his little legs would have tired and that he would have wanted the comfort of his mother and would have wondered where she was. They were animals and here in Australia pitbulls are euthanized for doing less than these disgusting humans. They should never have been let out of prison, they should have damn well died in there. R.I.P little man xxxx

Calling them animals is an insult to all animals. They are just monsters that should have served more time.

This is the reason why I don't want children. I don't want to have someone I love go through anything that could harm them. This just breaks my heart.

my teacher worked with both boys when they were in rehabilitation, she said the younger one was actually incredibly remorseful as he grew up and was a generally sweet kid. the older one on the other hand was the sort of person to send a chill down your spine, he was the one to later go and commit more crimes.

my brother got 8 years in prison, for drugs. He was only transporting the actual drug dealers to their buyers. Also I live in Liverpool. The murder took place in Bootle. I go college there. You often see children playing on the track lines. Its insane to think they found a body there. Let alone that the body was found by children.

He deserves the sentence. The problem is not that his was too harsh sentence, the problem is that other sentences are too lenient.

Can you imagine being that mother who's child was almost the one taken that day? You'd have to imagine she'd never take her eyes off her child ever again.

So true, right? Also, I read Denise Bulger's book "I let him go" and she talks about how she was with her other children, the ones who were born after James. She was hyper-vigilant, and very over-protective.You hear about 'helicopter parents' now, she was one back then by her own admission, but I can't say I blame her.

Can people STOP defending them. They’re 10 they KNOW killing someone is wrong. Their sick and twisted kids that deserve life in prison Edit:a word Edit: ya’ll getting pressed over me saying that killers should have longer sentences ANOTHER EDIT: SINCE YA’LL AEE TRIGGERED ABOUT ME SAYING LIFE THEN A LONGER SENTENCE THERE YOU HAPPY NOW?

Avocado Toast I just rewatched this video after a few months and I just realized she said some people stopped them but weren’t fazed because the boys said they were taking him to his mom. How the fuck as a human being you trust two little boys to take a toddler who has blood all over him and I’m pretty sure looks like has been very hurt 👀👀 Even if I wouldn’t suspect the kids at first I still would want all three kids to be safe so I would of took all of them to the police station or hospital
@lifegoeson10074 жыл бұрын
Amina Khan same, it would have bothered me so much, I would of had to make sure the kid made it to the hospital, his parents could have just met us their

They were kids and could be rehabilitated potentially. They deserved a chance to redeem themselves as adults and I think Thompson did that but not the other one he's clearly not. But I completely don't agree with the luxury they had in "prison" is laughable and disgusting. But at ten years old you have to look at it more critically and thinking about do they really deserve life in prison, no they deserve some substantial amount to be rehabilitated to when there legally adults to then have the chance to become new people.
@avocadotoast30874 жыл бұрын
Minute Movies no they took a life therefore they don’t deserve their own life
@minutemovies27664 жыл бұрын
@AvocadoToast the court system would have a higher body count of children than them, how does that make any sense to you? More killing doesn't solve anything. They needed a harsh punishment but the ten year olds didn't need to pay with their lives as they were evidentally mentally ill.

I was well aware of this story before, but you included so many details I wasn't aware of, like the boys' home lives. I almost feel like I need to watch much of the beginning again just to keep straight which boy was which. Excellent job, Eleanor.
