The problem with the Jedi is that they are so near sighted and manipulative. Yoda sent this guy to that planet to test his loyalty knowing he would fail. In the end he ruined three lives : Xanatos, his Father, and poor Qui Gonn. They stole children from their parents and wouldn't allow them to form healthy connections. With a thousand years earlier, they even accepted adults and allowed romantic relationships. They just kept deteriorating from their Order's original teachings. Which is what led to the failure of the Old Order. Luke Skywalker's New Jedi Order may not have had ivory towers in the Republic or gigantic Jedi Armies, but they were far better and compassionate.

Didn't mention that when Qui-Gon killed Xanatos' father, he cut the signet ring from his finger. Xanatos picked it up, and since it was still hot from the lightsaber he branded himself with it. That's why some of the pictures of him have him with a broken circle on his face.

If anyone here wants to read about this story themselves it can be found in the Star Wars legends “Jedi apprentice” series. Xanatos makes his appearance in the 2nd book and dies i the 8th. There are 20 books to the series all together, 18 are main story books and 2 special editions. The series is about 20ish years old and is catered towards a young teenager audience.

I have read 8 first. Problem is that only those were in finnish so I couldn't read them all. But didn't Xanatos also try sabotage jedi temple? (I mean destroy.) Weird it wasn't mentioned.

Started rereading them today. While certainly you can tell their targeted audience is younger, they are a joy to read and get into some very heavy topics. I would gladly recommend all 18 of them. Plus they tie into the Jedi Quest and Last of the Jedi series as well. The last few books are certainly the darkest.

Xanatos is a name from Disney cartoons. David Xanatos but always only ever called Xanatos. He had long black hair and was kind of the villain but also had good values too.. seems like Disney brought in his personification to Star Wars via retconning.

Ehhhh I didn’t like Xanatos at ALL. His story wasn’t tragic, just... pitiful, whiny and annoying. He was less Qui-Gon’s apprentice and more like JarJars.
