I thought it was common knowledge that wealth makes people severely depressed. It’s like finishing every task in an open world game but still being trapped in it afterwards with nothing to do. Covid kinda showed a lot of us what the rich people lifestyle feels like. “No work”, almost no honest social contact, way too much free time but realizing that you can’t really do anything with it etc. Just that they have a bunch of money. The middle class lifestyle is definitely the best imo. You have a comfortable lifestyle but it doesn’t feel like there is nothing left to archive. Being too poor or too rich is just torture (by that I of course don’t mean to say that being very rich and being very poor are in any way equally shitty but you get my point).

@GreyAcumen10 ай бұрын
@@GizmoMaltese - we need a heterosexual pride day just as much as we need a gay pride day. Also, of course there are groups with more privilege than others, but many of those groups have gotten there because someone before them sacrificed to allow a better future, or that there was a conflict with both groups trying to be the one on top and one of those groups won. I will be the last one to say that any group "deserves" the privileges they have, but to say they specifically DON'T deserve them still only works on the assumption that there is some universal moral right for everyone to have equal privileges. We all have a right to PURSUE happiness, that never implied a right to have that happiness given to us. So certainly we don't have a perfect and just society, but we wont get to a perfect and just society through handouts.

I’m giving you the benefit of the doubt, and assuming that you’re not trying to make things worse for him, but if you are then you shouldn’t be here. Absolutely Agree with this. It’s like being in creative mode on a server where all the other players are on survival. The joy you achieve building I.e a massive structure when compared with every other player having to go through the struggle and journey of sourcing the material themselves or as teams to build that same structure is 0 to none. I feel like selling ur stake in the passion project that brought you happiness is just going to put you in a situation of trying to replicate that joy and quickly becoming desensitised to what most others would call “luxury” to the point where gaining an extra i.e. yacht would bring no extra joy but losing one would drastically affect the ‘normalised’ lifestyle you’ve become accustomed to.

The problem of indie game developers is when they have created a “perfect” game is hard to reach again that perfection. The bar is set so high from the start, anything they try to make isn’t gonna reach it. People expect from them to create the next masterpiece but get disappointed and angry if their work doesn’t meet their high expectations. I think it would be hard for someone like Notch to create something new to match the success of Minecraft, something that not only people but also he would be satisfied.

He’s lost purpose after falling into a completely different lifestyle. When you have achieved everything that’s ever been wanted (money, parties, succes), what do you do afterwards? I disagree with all the people here saying that “money can’t buy you happiness”, to a certain extent, that’s true. Money can’t buy you hapiness, it can sell your worries. I think Notch’s early retirement has left him without purpose, without challenge. Now making your own challenge is the hard part. I saw a comment about being done with your mc world and having nothing to do, well... That’s usually the part were you move on, or make your own challenges (I.e amazing bases, minigames etc). I very much so agree with this and think that Notch now faces a problem that he literally (indirectly) created. The Irony that can be found in sadness is perhaps something to chuckle at occasionally. Something else will *always* come up, bringing you up from the seat of contentment. I think at the very least most people need some sort of structure in life that keeps them occupied. Its like we have gotten to a point where we work so much we don't know what to do with free time anymore. You see people on vacation sort of hanging out waiting to go back to work instead of actually going on vacation, though not everyone can afford trips etc it seems its not as preferable as it used to be.

Precisely. LA Party culture might be exciting in the short run, but it's our deep meaningful relationships we have with people that are one of the pillars of life and happiness (imo). Also, if the H3H3 clip is all true, then it means Notch abandoned the people he use to hang with, people that might have cared about him as a person rather than his wealth. Not maintaining important relationships is such a big downfall for celebrities and people in general. I've known Markus for a while. Not very personally, but just in forum back-and-forth discussions a long time ago as fellow game developers on a game developer's forum a long time ago. He was kind of a star on that forum. He made Wurm Online, which I thought was really impressive. He made some super impressive smaller things (making a 1st person shooter in 4 kilobytes, making a quite convincing Mario clone with randomly generated maps etc). I always thought 'Notch' was a very talented and inspiring guy at game development, and I enjoyed our discussions at the time. During those times he never struck me as kind of an extreme bigot or anything, but then again we were just talking about game development. Anyhow, I just hope he's OK. I don't agree with a lot of stuff that he's been talking about politically. But I hope he can get back to doing the thing he loves, or get into something else that he loves to do.
