The Train Advent Calender - Door 17: Middleton Railway

The world's oldest remaining railway is Middleton Railway just outside of Leeds. It's been here since 1758, and was built to transport coal. It was one of the driving forced behind the industrial development of the city Leeds. Today it's a heritage railway. The railway employed the world's first train driver, and this is also the place for the first civil fatality caused by a train #middleton #jameshewitt #heritagerailway
