Honestly this character really breaks the illusion of "you can just win with your favourites". Only using your favourite pokemon means loving them even when they are objectively weaker than other Pokemon. There's no way Ash's pikachu, his ace, is anywhere near the power level of even a wild Darkrai. We see in the Darkrai movie that Dark Void can put literally an entire crowd of people to sleep, and in the anime (and in the games) sleep is the most overpowered status condition. We've even seen cases where the referee has declared a sleeping Pokemon as knocked out because they have no way to wake up, so it's even more powerful than in the games if sleep can be considered a KO. Also, I like to think Mr Tobias Darkrai here used Dark Void on Fantina's Drifblim, giving it a taste of its own medicine.

The Heracross thing was doubly aggravating because of his battle with Nando where it was revealed that Heracross knew Sleep Talk. Know what other move Heracross was revealed to have? Focus Punch. The, I believe, STRONGEST Fighting-Type move at the time, and it seemed to lack that negative downside of if you're hit you lose the move (or at least the charge up wasn't dwelled on as much) and seemingly THAT was replaced with Hyper Beam, not Giga Impact which is the physical version of the move so it would have been the stronger choice for Heracross...Hyper Beam...the special attack. So Heracross' moveset for his battle against Darkrai was Horn Attack (Normal/Physical), Megahorn (Bug/Physical), Sleep Talk (Normal/Status), and Hyper Beam (Normal/Special with required recharge time after).

To play devil's advocate I would make the argument that Pokemon almost always have physical and special attacks even if it wouldn't make sense in the games cause they treat it more like close quarters and ranged options. Plus Hyper Beam and Giga Impact just decide when they want to have recharge time and this was one of the times where Heracross could move after with Horn Attack. Speaking of which, I believe Horn Attack is the much more aggrivating choice to have over chargeless Focus Punch. Heracross has Megahorn already. I know that horn is it's thing but it has hands and now can't use them.
