The Transfiguration and the New Exodus

In Luke's version of the Transfiguration, Luke tells us what Jesus was speaking about with Moses and Elijah: namely, Jesus' Exodus.
Luke's version evokes the original exodus... but what does this mean?
In the Old Testament the prophets like Isaiah, Jeremiah, and Ezekiel spoke of the Messiah coming to inaugurate a new exodus that was both similar and dis-similar to the old Exodus.
Both involve a journey with a beginning and and end that is supposed to set God's people free and bring them home to The Promised Land.
But, the old exodus began in Egypt and ended in Jerusalem (the earthly promised land); the new exodus that Jesus will inaugurate will begin in Jersusalem and end in the heavenly promised land.

I honestly don’t know why people give your videos a thumbs down. Maybe they meant to give a thumbs up, but being that their thumbs are so huge from long term texting, etc, their hypertrophic thumbs press the thumbs down accidentally as well as thumbs up. Jesus was talking to Elijah and Moses at transfiguration. Moses also shone like a sun at Mt Horeb

"And they spoke of His DECEASE that He should accomplish in Jerusalem." Douay Rheims version has DECEASE instead of Exodus. Why is this if D.R. is the closer translated bible?

Luke also says that Jesus face was set towards Jerusalem to mean that Jerusalem was his destiny.

Obviously the exodus here means His death which is to accomplish at Jerusalem. It means the New Passover. Luke specifies the location.

I think it's more for his disciples so that they may believe. Jesus's signs are always for the people so that they may believe in him. That's why Moses, who represents the Law, and Isaiah, who represents the prophets, were there; to show that Jesus is the fulfillment of the Old Testament. Hope that was useful. God bless

Moses & Elijah spoke with Jesus about His exodus, they did not tell Jesus as if He did not know. Moses - the law. Elijah - the prophets. Jesus was the end of both.

But why did Moses and Elijah have to tell Jesus of his exodus when he knew of it already and plus he had direct access to the father I don't understand

@@Trongsachcom Elijah had already ascended via angelic chariots, so I'm not sure about that. My guess is the answer is simpler. When Lazarus was raised, Jesus prayed that the Father would hear Him, and added something very telling. He said he knows the Father always hears him, but prayed that for the benefit of those watching. Why were Moses and Elijah at the Transfiguration? Probably not for the benefit of Jesus directly, but for the benefit of Peter, James and John, that they might understand better.

@ There is another interesting correlation between Elijah and Moses I just heard the other day. Both had mountain Theophanies, during which neither could see the face of God. Now, with Jesus, they could go up the mountain and see the face of God.

Jesus was greater than Moses and Elijah. Jesus resurrected and ascended to heaven. Moses and Elijah were taken up to heaven bodily assumed or assumption to heaven
