We need a blind study in which half the locations are rumoured to be haunted and half aren’t, but the ghoul bois aren’t told which ones are which. We should also tell them that some of the “clean” ones are haunted and some of the haunted ones are “clean” to see if it influences the results through confirmation bias. If you know somewhere is haunted for example, your brain may make connections between random words in the ovilus or creaks heard in the building. Shane would love it

Nah. If you really want to eliminate bias, you tell them a place is haunted and nothing more. Let us the audience know the hot spots but not the boys. And let them just walk around and figure IF there are hot spots. If they get the same results as what we know to be hot spots then there is some circumstantial evidece.

They're basically all this place... tourist traps based on a little history, a little conspiracy, a little theater, and a whole lot of mouth to mouth marketing. Same thing with UFO tourist traps. It's a gimmick. And this is coming from someone who _wants_ to believe. Buuuut... ehhh? Not much solid stuff to go on. And these guys go to all the same places all the "big timers" go to... yet nothing reall6 evident time after time. Not to mention the "gadgets" being so much sillier in their hands.

I agree, this feels... not haunted; the "evidence" provided by the staff is more than likely not legitimate. When the one woman was talking about "her experience" in the 7th room, it looked as though she was looking down from the camera a few times, as though she was reading lines. Surely, if you were recounting your experience, you wouldn't need to look away to *the same spot* each time because, you know, you'd remember all the details of what you would say next? Her recount seemed rehearsed.

Does anyone else remember the Ghost Hunters episode where the owners had tricks planted, and the guys found them all? Like they were saying “people see the chandeliers swing,” but then the guys crawled up into the ceiling and found pneumatics attached to them to make them swing. The guys were FURIOUS and confronted the owner, who tried to play it cool but was clearly sweating bullets at getting caught. I’m currently feeling deja vu. I feel like the tricks in this case are less obvious, but could still be a plant.

I honestly don’t recall - I only saw the episode once like 15 years ago. But I have a very clear memory of one of the guys opening a ceiling tile, and then the two of them finding a mask behind a “mirror” (actually one-way glass) that would light up, I think on a motion sensor or timer. ETA: it was Moss Beach Distillery. They have since claimed that GH knew the whole time and that they were surprised by the edit, but if that’s the case I don’t know why they would even have filmed the opening tour with the distillery employee saying “oh, people see these chandeliers swing.” Also if the owner was acting, give that man an Oscar. I’ve never seen a better “trying to play it cool when I know I’ve been caught out” performance in my life.

Flashlights yeah. Still imperfect, since you unquestionably get loads of false positives whether there's any ghosts around or not, but as sensitive as they are, it makes sense that, assuming ghosts do exist and can mildly affect their environment, they'd be able to "nudge" a flashlight. The SLS/Kinect camera...ehhh. It operates by reading how the infrared dots deflect off the contours of your body while you're playing your XBox, and it's designed to assume there is in fact a person in front of it playing said XBox. So those are the two ways it will create a stick figure. If somebody's in front of it, the SLS will pick them up based on how the IR beams deflect off of them. If nobody's in front of it, it will assume a chair, or the columns of a stairway bannister, or an end table, must be the player. And of course we can see the unbroken grid of dots on night vis cameras when a "ghost" shows up, and when that happens, night vis cameras show that the beams aren't deflecting off of anything (besides the wall, furniture, etc.) Given that the SLS relies on those beams deflecting off the player to detect their figure, if nobody's in front of the SLS, and the grid of dots is unbroken, and a figure happens to show up on the SLS, we can assume the camera is just making its best guess where the "player" is, not actually detecting a figure. The technology doesn't have the means to detect an unseen presence whose form doesn't interact with the infrared beams. It's designed to assume the beams are in fact deflecting off of a person, so like virtually all pieces of ghost-hunting kit, it's pretty much guaranteed to produce the occasional false positive. If it were really a ghost, we'd expect to see the infrared dots interacting with its "body" on the night vis cameras. Since the grid is always intact when this happens, we know the SLS isn't picking anything up via infrared. Since it can _only_ pick up figures via infrared, we know it's a false positive.

Regarding the photo (and I don't know if anyone else has commented this), depending on when the photo was taken, you can actually tell which was dead just by who in the photo is stiller. Because photos used to take so long to take and process, people would naturally sway or move slightly while holding still to take a photo, making them slightly blurrier. However, and this may come as a shock, dead people actually don't move, meaning that they would be very clear in their photos. The Winchester Mystery House has some really cool examples of these types of "Post Mortem" photos.

In fact, *we literally have an identical trunk in our living room* Like. Photos of the recently dead were actually a thing back when cameras were just invented. Often after the sudden demise of a person, it would be realized that there were no photos of them. I worked at a historical house (that had no deaths associated with it) that had always been the “creepy abandoned house” in my home town. I was a reenactor with several other Highschool kids. We used to go to the areas that were blocked off to guests, hide in the windows and peak up when the tour guides weren’t looking. We’d spray perfume in rooms before a tour would come through and would run up and down the the attic stairs which made it sound like someone was running down the main stairs. We were just playing pranks as 16 year olds but a couple years later I saw it on a ghost show, it apparently had become a ghost hunting location and they reported finding all the things we did as pranks. The staff had no idea we were doing it.

Imagine if the voices and all the other "evidence" like them probably saying "it's us", "Shane", "Hey, Ryan", etc. are just the ghosts and demons that they brought along with them over course of their investigations, and are trying to warn that this place is probably not haunted at all 😂

2:43 Shane, if you're scared of antique stores, come to Savage Mill in Laurel, Maryland! It's allegedly very haunted with several well-known ghosts and the entire basement is a huge antique store featuring THE creepiest dolls you have ever seen. It used to be a cotton mill dating back to the 1800s (the building is on the National Register of Historic Places) and has a lot of Civil War history as well. Genuinely one of the creepiest places I've ever been and I don't even believe in ghosts - but it does have a very nice vegan coffee shop, so it's worth risking a haunting. :)

@@Kayla_P99 It's great. I got a vintage 1930s dress for homecoming one year at the antique store so I'm probably very haunted now. Also, it's surrounded by creepy abandoned mill buildings in the woods! Yaaay.

I actually like seeing them investigate this obviously not haunted place because it makes there other investigations feel more real and like the other locations may truly be haunted. You never see ghost investigation shows where they go into the location and find absolutely no actual evidence of a haunting. It's always that the house is haunted for sure. It's nice seeing actual haunting vs fake ones

There’s always the small chance that this is just a super clever and elaborate way of faking it, but the fact they commentate on other ghost hunting shows and also put all the time and production into an obviously unconvincing location is in itself convincing- and is really the reason I like Shane and Ryan so much

I love how when the "ghost" asked Ryan for beer and he offered some, it said "percent," and he goes right to how much it'll get. Not what percent of alcohol it is. 😂

even though i don't think this place was haunted by anything but the aftermath of a few bachelor parties, i do like it when ryan and shane investigate places they were called into, like when they went to hannah's house. it's just a different vibe when they go somewhere that's not marketed as a haunted place

I don't really like when they do "house calls", cause when someone calls them there, they're very obviously lying. Or if it's a individual person, or so, they're clearly mentally unwell. Or at best, big fucking liars

It'd be funny if "Lisa, Ameline, Bill, Tina" were the names of the employees who were asked by their boss to fake a haunting. Imagine these underpaid employees faking a haunting, "this is bullshit, I just want my paycheck" only to be name-checked by the Ovilus and going "...is it actually haunted?"
