Just felt like letting you know, this version of brainiac is based on AM and that's a genius creative decision. Seriously, look up the hate monologue animation from I have no mouth and I must scream, he's a one to one copy. Brainiac's voice is meant to sound like the author of the story(who voices AM) They even have the same origins. They're programed for war meaning they have nothing but hatred for humanity as a concept, only keeping one intelligent life around to torture and manipulate, so the war is never over. Fictions Embodiment of hope(Superman) vs Fictions embodiment of hatred(AM)

Silver Age Supergirl probably has the best design krypton wise and aesthetic wise. This was before the 2000s and she was practically tortured by the author's...... Rebirth supergirl also had a good design. This was in the 2000s. She was practically tortured by the author's. I think you get the point.Anytime she's given a good design she's tortured by the author's for some reason.

"Home isn't a place. Home is the people who love you." I honestly got a little misty-eyed hearing that. To me, that part in particular is just so optimistic and hopeful that it just screams "Superman" to me. It just... fits. This has honestly been my favorite depiction of Kara. I'm so excited to see where season 3 takes her.

My girlfriend absolutely loved Kara. She came from an abusive household and the moment Kara finally pushes back against Brainiac (quite literally by flying up and _pushing_ the ship away from Earth complete with the show's theme song playing) gets her every time.

I really love this version of Kara. She kinda reminds me Omni-Man, but where he was brainwashed by patriotism for his Empire, Kara was literally brainwashed by the being who made her believe that he actually loved her and that she was doing good for the galaxy. After everything she went through, I really wanted to jump into the screen and give her a hug.

I always read Superman and Supergirl stories as stories of second and first generation immigrants respectively. Superman in many ways is a second generation immigrant. While neither experiencing his home directly, he still has some vague understanding of his culture and heritage. However, growing up in a new land is for him because this world was the only one he could ever remember. Meanwhile, Supergirl is similar to a first generation immigrant. She grew up in a different culture and her heritage was present in her development. She remembers the reasons why she needed to flee her home. Earth might be her new home but she cannot fully understand its culture because her culture conflicts with it. While she wants to embrace earth, she does not want to forget her past. Now, add whacky time shenanigans and you get someone who is not only thrown out of time but also out of place. In many ways, Kara is a first generation immigrant reuniting with family who already established roots in a far away foreign place. She was originally supposed to care for her family but powers out of her control (for Kara, random space event and for many immigrants, immigration control and policies) changed her life. Both lifestyles have their own trauma attached. Superman lives with the loss of never knowing his people while Supergirl lives with the loss of never enjoying her people. Similarly, many first and second generation immigrants struggle differently from each other. First generation immigrants must deal with the trauma of being a foreigner in a foreign land while second generation immigrants deal with more discrimination of being too different on the surface from the culture but also only knowing that one type of culture.

Kara Zor-El is my beautiful Kryptonian daughter and I will always love her. Also, Kara's storyline throughout the back half of Season 2 reminded me so much of Hunter from The Owl House. * Two blonde young people who are initially introduced as antagonists in the second seasons of their shows after being foreshadowed in the final episode of the first season. * Both were raised by an abusive father figure (Emperor Belos, Brainiac) to serve as his masked second in command (the Golden Guard, the Kryptonian Warrior). * Partway through the second season, they're sent out on a mission to spy on and capture the main character (Luz Noceda, Clark Kent), only to befriend the hero's best friends and eventually fall in love with one of them (Willow Park and Gus Porter, Jimmy Olsen and Lois Lane). * Despite this newfound bond allowing them to experience life outside of their father figure's control, they would reveal their true identity and remain loyal to the villain, only to start having second thoughts. * It isn't until they discover just how cruel and monstrous their master and father really is that they are left emotionally damaged and experiencing a severe crisis of faith (Kara learning about Brainiac's genocides and how she can't remember her parts in them due to Brainiac wiping her memories, Hunter learning about the Day of Unity and Belos killing the other Golden Guards). * In addition, their backstories are deeply rooted in their shows' lore and the deaths of important characters that took place in the distant past (Caleb Wittebane, the House of El). * Upon reuniting with their newfound friends, they would team up with the heroes to stop their abuser once and for all, gaining new powers in the process and becoming stronger for it too (Hunter's Palisman powers gained from Flapjack's death, Kara and Clark discovering Kryptonians' powers to absorb sunlight and become even stronger). * Afterwards, they would settle down with a new family (Darius and Eberwolf, Ma and Pa Kent) and a new position allowing them to be whoever they choose to be (Hunter becoming a Palisman carver, Kara becoming Supergirl). * While spending time on Earth, they develop a fascination with a particular aspect of its culture, Hunter becoming a wolfaboo and a Cosmic Frontier fanboy, Kara loving Earth food like ice cream and hot dogs). * Due to living a sheltered life for most of their lives, they are incredibly awkward beneath their hardened shells but ultimately very kind and courageous too.

@@Wh4tIfN0 for injustice superman, he was a man who felt alone but finally found something that gave him a sense of belonging when he embraced his love with Lois Lane and had a child with her, but had everything and everyone he care about looked away when the Joker grew tired with his old methods and Batman and wanted to truly want to see if he can break the Spirit of the man of steel. Ya, the first half of the injustice comics truly give us that feeling of a Superman who felt lose and loss of purpose for living and the first game gave us a Superman struggling to deny the horrible things he’s doing until the last moment and believe he is still doing good while only believing that the evil thinks he’s doing is for the greater good. This very of Superman is not perfect, look at Injustice 2 where they want to keep Evil Superman but you also understand that a Superman who lose everything and everyone he care about and play a role in it’s destruction, can become evil if he chose to isolate himself and wanted no one to bother him.

I felt like Kara’s introduction & role in My Adventures with Superman is what improved the quality of the show. I’m not saying MAWS isn’t great; hell, I think the Clois (ClarkXLois) relationship is perhaps the best version & I enjoyed the dynamic of other characters & how they adapt the Superman lore in a different way. I just felt the Kara & her character arc in the show did a great job in improving the quality of the writing, lore, relationships & characters arcs in the show. And it’s kinda to see a Kara that in a way sorta mirrors Clark’s/Kal-El’s personality & arc as opposed to a foil as seen in the comics and other media. Hope to see more of your essays.

In some ways, this version of Supergirl shares similar traits with these fictional characters: 1. Prince Zuko (Avatar: The Last Airbender). 2. Rose the Huntsgirl (American Dragon: Jake Long). 3. Bucky Barnes (Captain America: The Winter Soldier). 4. Cynder (The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning, The Eternal Night, and Dawn of the Dragon). 5. Karai (T.M.N.T. 2012). "Just because someone stumbles and loses their way doesn't always mean that they are gone forever. Sometimes, we all need a little help." - Professor Charles Xavier from the 2014 movie X-Men: Days of Future Past.

This is a pretty good video that has a good analysis of the basics of Kara Zor-El's character, how she differs from her cousin Superman, and Kara's character in My Adventures with Superman. To be honest, I don't agree with your assessment that Kara came to study Earth before conquering. The series makes it blatantly clear that Kara was on Earth to find her cousin more than anything else. Brainiac was aware of Earth since the end of season 1, in which months have passed by the start of season 2, yet Brainiac never made any sort of action against the planet. Then Clark's message reached Kara, and while Brainiac had intended to go to Earth with Kara, she decided to go without him out of a sense of longing to find family. If anything Kara was more upset that Superman brushed her off when she tried to talk to him because despite how unpleasant she found the bachelor contest to be, Kara at least tried to tolerate it so she could properly meet her cousin. Their bad first meeting was just a matter of bad timing. Despite having a bad first meeting, as the kryptonian cousins get to know each other, Kara's warrior facade starts to crack. She may have been raised to be Brainiac's weapon, but Kara's still a person with a mind of her own. Plus, being around Clark definitely made her less lonely and lessened her aggression. They quickly bonded with each other as a family and in a short time, Clark changed Kara's entire worldview and made her question Brainiac's motives. In the end, Kara chose her cousin over her adopted father Brainiac. It really is tragic how Brainiac raised Kara to be his weapon, even using gaslighting, mind control, and memory erasure to make her compliant with his views. Fortunately the love of her cousin Superman, along with Lois and Jimmy was enough to free Kara from Brainiac's control for good, and it was fitting for Kara to deal the final blow to defeat Brainiac. The highlight of season 2 of My Adventures with Superman to me is the bond between Clark and Kara.

I believe she studies planets because we know she keeps mementos, and has a very clear interest in their well-being (in a conqueror sort of way). Yes, she's mostly motivated by her cousin for the Earth visit, but she did spend a lot of time with Jimmy just seeing the sights. She loves exploring the planets she goes to because she believes they'll be part of her father's empire

@@NecoLumiInteresting perspective on what Kara was doing. I do agree that she would initially observe worlds because she was tasked by Brainiac to find worlds for the new Kryptonian Empire. While she did explore and initially enjoy her time on Earth, as you have brought up and agreed with my point, Kara's main focus was finding her cousin. I also agree that Kara does need time to heal, but it will be easier with Clark, Jimmy, and Lois by her side.

@@NecoLumiI also wanted to bring up that while Clark can't entirely relate with Kara's situation with Brainiac, he can still somewhat relate with Kara's trauma since Clark has had Brainiac manipulate his memories and take control of his body, even if only briefly in comparison to what Brainiac put Kara through. It might allow Clark to help Kara through her trauma. We'll have to wait and see.

Superman is my favourite superhero and this shows tone, animation and characterisations are truly fantastic. Season 2 was such a big step up from Season 1, even though I was a big fan of Season 1. I especially LOVED what this show did with Kara/Supergirl, as this is my favourite take on Supergirl yet, and I love how they handled her character arc. I really like the overall theme about longing for a place in the world and Clark going through his own inner struggles of whether he truly belongs on Earth as an alien with growing xenophobia and whether he has a right to be on Earth when he feels like he only makes other peoples life's worst as Superman, especially Lois and Jimmy. It's a great narrative that shows how relatable and emotionally rich the character can be when you get people who understand him to write him like a three-dimensional person who has relatable problems despite what he can do. Jack Quaid, as a whole, truly blew me away with his depiction of Clark Kent and Superman, as this honestly might be my favourite animated take on Superman/one of the best depictions of Superman in general. I also really liked how well this show handled the theme of stability and insecurities as we see how both Clark and Lois have been struggling to maintain a stable relationship and given their own insecurities and self-doubt it only led to the two of them growing apart and ultimately realising that no matter what the two of them will always see one another as the strongest person they know and you can understand from both perspectives what led to this fracture as Clark was doubting his own place in this world and feeling alienated (literally) and more isolated as a person and Lois was grappling with her own self-doubt and feelings of inadequacy and abandonment issues when it came ot her relationship with her father. Ultimately that moment of the two of them coming together and rekindling their love for each to break out of Brainiac's control was one of my favourite and cutest moments of the show Furthermore, Clark's arc this season is well juxtaposed by Kara's excellent character arc of having her whole life under the manipulation of Brainiac and thus never showing true love or genuine familial affection and only teaching herself to believe Brainiac loved her as any father would, but slowly realises how much she's been lied to and that alone break her, and its only with love from Clark, Jimmy and Lois does she see that she has a choice of what she wants her place in this world to be and finds her own individuality and balance in this world. Brainiac in this show is also a great villain, and Micheal Emerson gives a fantastic performance in the role as this more robotic, sadistic, dark take on him. He truly feels like a menacing threat, and his personal connection with Clark and Kara makes him all the more of a despicable villain and definitely the best villain in the show so far. Plus his design, voice and actions are giving major Frieza vibes. Though I do agree some of the villain designs are very hit or miss and feel rather bland, which is a shame because so many of these characters could've had such visually distinct and appealing designs like in the comic that all stand out from each other aside from being fairly bland tech-based suits and give them more interesting origins and personalities as I feel like Metallo, Livewire and Silver Banshee could've been way cooler villains but whatever I guess Cant wait for Season 3 and the confirmation of Lex Luthor (officially bald) to be the main villain and other villains and characters like Superboy and Cyborg Superman etc... to appear

I was shocked when they showed Kara’s backstory. The show for the most part is really light hearted and charming but when they show Kara’s backstory there is nothing light about it. When you really sit down and think about it it is insanely screwed up. She was literally forced against her will to commit mass genocide and then her father figure makes her believe she did a good thing. Brainiac doesn’t love Kara not in the slightest even though he says he does. She isn’t his daughter. She’s just a tool he can use and once he sees Clark he sees an even better tool and now he can throw away the old one. It’s honestly sickening the things he does in this show and they surprisingly don’t hold back with just how screwed up he is which is why he’s one of my favorite villains of all time.

Personally, I'm betting that there's some angry survivors from Kara's prior destruction of other planets. It would be cruel to make her confront her dark past like that, but she does need to be able to come to terms with it. And at least this time, she has her support to see her through. Plus, Kara really should junk Brainiac's core ASAP. This way, he just might come back and cause more trouble.

It's so refreshing to see a flawed yet compassionate & loving strong female character in western media. add to that a beautiful but not over-sexualized design & a great voice acting. The whole show feels like the wholesome 2000's cartoons. A time when everything was bright and colorful & that's exactly why watching this show felt so nostalgic for me. Kara is everything most modern female characters in western media lack and she's been the best cartoon character since V & powder in the Arcane tv show for me. The only small gripe i have with the 2nd season though is that we don't get enough kara. Lois lane & Kara could have more arguments srsly lois forgave kara too quickly. And I wanted to see more interaction between kara and superman's friends especially the kent family. The first half of the 2nd season felt like filler and they could've done a better job showing more sides of kara. Hopefully she gets more screen time in the next season

I like the show but the Kara arc is one of the reasons I won't love it. There wasn't enough of her. Major points of her story were downplayed and softened, her trauma was overcome too fast. There could have been separate season with her fighting her trauma and I would've enjoy that. Consider this: she was brought up by manipulative jerk of a computer, she had dedicated her life to recreate the empire in all it's glory, and that mission was the only thing that brought happiness in her life. She loved the planets she visited, she wanted to make them the jewels of the empire - advanced, prosperous, glorious, united. That was her happiness. And then she discovered the truth, that the new empire had never existed, all the beautiful worlds she loved are dead. Maybe on some of them she even had friends. They all dead. She killed them. She had committed multiple genocides of the worlds she loved and cherished, and all of that was ordered by the one she called her father. What he did to her is worse than serial r@pe. He r@ped her mind to make her genocide her happiness. And she discovered all of that in one day. Her whole world crumbled into ashes in one day. Now she has nothing but her dispare. That's, my friends, is trauma you will never heal from. DC is supposed to be the Dark Comics. This is grim dark. That's how I like it. Like Wildbow's Worm. But they just brushed it off. I won't see how Kara would fight her trauma, how she would conquer it and then lose to it and relapse, two steps forward one step back, like real people. I wanna see her develope deep and rewarding relationships that will support her. I wanna see full spectrum of her personality, full journey of her change. From all of the characters of the show I like her the most. Such a waste of brilliant potential.

Trauma you will never heal from is a very harmful take. Kara's situation is unique, because she truly had zero agency in what Brainiac made her body do. Importantly, that means Kara genuinely did nothing wrong, outside of kidnapping Kal-El, which was an active choice. The moment she encounters someone who challenges her brainwashing, everything unravels. To say she can't cope with trauma implies an extremely cynical worldview that just doesn't fit the themes of the show. Not to mention, there are real former child soldiers who have gone through intensely traumatic events, forced to participate in massacres, and still found peace and love in the end (see Ishmael Beah's story if you don't believe me). Like I said, trauma isn't a contest. Different people cope differently with their personal tragedies. Plus, nothing in the epilogue implies she just "forgot" her trauma. It's totally plausible she took on the Supergirl mantle to keep herself distracted. I'd say there's an avenue to explore her arc with a survivor of one of the planets Brainiac conquered in Season 3. Hell, she cried when killing Brainiac, that's a TON of mixed emotions right there. For the record, I also read Wildbow's Worm. Worm and My Adventures With Superman are incredibly different stories in tone and messaging. To compare the two is like complaining Guardians of the Galaxy 2 doesn't have the Slavers arc from Punisher MAX. You're free to have preferences, but these are not objective flaws in the show's narrative. Also, it's Detective Comics. Not Dark Comics. Superman himself is technically *Action Comics* because of the different tone.

Huh, «detective comics»... where did I get the «dark» part My friend@@NecoLumi, I say «something you never heal from» and I mean that the scars will stay for the rest of her life. Not that she won't be able to cope with them. But that's the point - she would need to cope with it for the rest of her life. That's part of her now. Have you read Mushoku Tensei? There are similar situation with Rudeus - he carriers his trauma from his previous live for the rest of his life. He learns to cope. He learns to go outside. But each time a big crowd of people watches him judgementaly he wants to throw up. He wants to run. It doesn't matter, he is most powerful magician in the history of human race now, on pair with the Demon God Laplace. But he learned to cope with that. He has support network of friends and family, he lives successful and happy life. I want something like that now. From all the stories I experience now I want Master Refujin's level of character writing. Anything less doesn't feel humanly enough anymore. That's what I've said in my comment - «I like», «I won't love». MAWS is not a scientific paper to have objective flaws.

@@NecoLumi, it's not for comedy. It shows how far gone he is.

@@NecoLumi, there is psychologist on KZbin, Psyculturist. He analysed the show on episode by episode basis. As a practicing therapist he brings many insights into the discussion. I strongly recommend you watch him.
