Well, given that I work professionally in both fields (I get paid to act and to teach philosophy as an adjunct college instructor and make a living off of both), I would say it's a realistic claim on my part. However, to say one has to make a living doing either of these before one claims to use the title is a bit of a stretch, especially regarding actors. The majority of actors in the Screen Actors Guild are earning below poverty level. Yet, they are still considered actors not only by the union, but by others in the profession.

I love seeing history in re-enactments like this. Definitely adding this to watch later after im done with the quiz. The spartans won in the end over the degenerate Athenians who lost their roots and traditions also their obligations. Socrates was punished as he led the youth astray without reminded them of what could happen if they did not ground themselves to living only on mortal pleasures and drying up their souls to be torn asunder. The ruling was correct. Socrates had redeeming traits however he should have kept it with counsel of elders and his interactions with the young should have practised more wisdom than being so careless without forethought of the ramifications. The Athenians and democracy tolerated him for 40 years until the after the 30 Tyrants which led to thousands of Athenian democrats executed and property confiscated. Socrates was an incessant critic of democracy. Why? Because democracy gave the People too much freedom. Socrates was a hypocritical elitist and moral charlatan. His miscreant ways ultimately caught up with him. It wasn't the Athenians nor democracy that caused his destruction... he did. I have no sympathy for him and with his Apology, Plato demonized democracy causing maybe the greatest harm in human history.

I think it's underappreciated that he martyred himself for his principles. Is it right and good to let evil men win? He thought the will of the outcome was good. And therefore he must submit. I am finding it interesting that he didn't see how sacrificing himself to these men's convictions proved their evil (as he would say) actions to be right. He mostly didnt care what the majority thought. But then why not care what his supporters thought at least? That he had more good work to do. More education he can teach even his own children. Comfort he can provide to his wife. I think it was an unreasonable choice to just go along with the outcome.

I was lucky to have a great teacher, who after reading the indecipherable chapters of philosophy books like the Odyssey, The Iliad, and texts of Plato and Socrates, would explain in laymen's terms what was actually being said so we all understood the meaning behind it. find yourself a copy of Plato's "the last days of Socrates" (eg. Penguin Classics) and read the whole book yourself....well worth it. You can go at your own pace and pay attention to the first story in the book, where Socrates talks to a man who is suiing his father in court...discussing the issue of what is justice and what is not (justice)...and the last story about why Socrates did not take up the offer to "bribe the guard and be on his way in exile"... this short film seems to be a very quick version made for T.V that skips a lot of what Plato has to teach about this whole affair.

@@kc5881 It may take a bit of getting used to...Plato's works are more like plays than novels, and the worrding can be very archaic. My suggestion would be to take your time, and ususally consider the whole plot-line is a simple....someone thinks they know something about the topic being discussed, yet Socrates will find a counterexample to what there definition is, so the first character has to re-think the issue and come up with a new way of defining or considering the issue....return to Socrates cvoming up with a counter-example. Other than the Symposium, this plot-line generally works. I was fortunate enough to study Plato's works at Uni with a very good teacher (lecturer, whatever) so I suppose I don't really know how hard it is on your own...I do remember asking a lot "what the hell are they talking about" type questions whilst reading the scripts... My advice is simply..don't give up, when you get the knack of them they are great works that still have relevance today...as the topics are still being discussed as we go through our lives...eg what does it mean to be honourable?.... is telling a lie always wrong?...etc. (I hope this helps you)

Human beings are now fully absorbed in the bodily convenience, materialistic abundance, and physical power that science provides, immersed in a system of competing physical life by bounding with the racism and nationalism to the solid shell of the unit of artificial race and nation, and trapped in the religions and ideologies with misguided gods and falsely developed beliefs. These are the biggest hurdles for doing bigger and righteous truths. If mankind does not break down and solve these barriers, humanity on earth will never be able to find real truths, nor live a peaceful and stable life forever. I have mastered the whole real truths, but I feel difficulties with these obstacles in getting people to know these truths, while being in every day’s agony of how I can break them down. Those who sympathize it and help me will realize the whole real truths, and will be able to live a calm and peaceful life forever while making people as the same.
