➡️ This is the trick that all confident and successful people use to stay positive…
1️⃣ CATCH the negative thought.
(it’s some version of I’m not enough).
2️⃣ BREAK the negative thought.
Try talking back to it - I usually say - “I’m not thinking about that.”
3️⃣ REPLACE the negative thought.
With whatever you want to think...or with what I, Mel Robbins would tell you to think.
By Catching, Breaking and Replacing the negative thought you will reprogram your mind.
You must follow these three steps.
If you just catch the negative thought - it’ll keep repeating.
If you only break it - it’ll come back bc it’s programmed into your mental circuitry.
You must REPLACE it - so that new thought over time becomes your new default.
In this video view - I also tie a confident and positive mind back to your core emotional needs.
☑️ to be seen,
☑️ to be heard,
☑️ to be accepted or celebrated for the unique individual you are.
When you don’t feel seen, heard or accepted, you end up feeling stuck, invisible and unfulfilled. When you take control of your mind by catching, breaking, and replacing those negative thoughts, you fulfill those needs for yourself.
All of this is from Chapter 4 in The High 5 Habit, which I’m reading in this video. We start on page 59 if you want to follow along. I also answer two questions:
➡️ 3 things to do if you feel misunderstood by your family
➡️ 4 ways to make your kids feel loved unconditionally but still be the parent.
And last but not least...here are the links that I mentioned…or just click the link in the bio!

I started high 5’ing myself in the mirror every morning, less than a week ago and my life is starting to transform. I am 54 and all I have ever wanted is to love myself! I have an 11 year old daughter and am so grateful that I can now be a healthy role model and break those generational patterns! Thank you for all you do Mel, I have so much gratitude to have you in my life!! xoxo

I have attempted to meditate many times in my life and prior to this CD the only success I've experienced is with live guided meditation. kzbin.infoUgkxzpa8CIfZcihW4Z0F_ja0QF3W9KIatrsq This is the first CD I've used that cuts through my unmedicated ADHD and enables me to truly relax and experience a quiet and energizing interval. The instructors voice is very soothing and pleasant to listen to. I am easily able to sit successfully through the entire CD, and for quite some time after. I cannot adequately express how tremendously helpful this CD has been on my spiritual journey!! Two thumbs up and 10 stars!

You are not alone in this boat. Growing up with Narcissistic abuse, then repeating patterns has led me to feel this way as well. Until you look inward and learn to appreciate and love you for you they way other people act and react to you matters, but once you see, accept, love and validate yourself how other people respond or react to you, no longer matter so much, this leads to freedom and joy.

The amount of love I felt in my body just giving my self a high five and tell myself how proud of myself I was made me cry. My body reacted immediately and I never felt so loved in my life. At night time I told myself goodnight and that I was beautiful. But also that I was so proud of myself. I started crying. never in my life have I heard those words before bed. again my body reacted immediately. I’m going to keep practicing this. Incredible.

DETECTING PATTERNS in how speak to ourselves is KEY to transition away from past limiting patterns. WE need to become aware of the specific phrases that continue to give us an un-easy gut reaction. This was crucial in my early days of addiction recovery, and helps those I guide, in all circumstances of limiting behavior. TIP: 1. Make an inventory of these limiting statements. 2. Make it mandatory to combat this with WORDS TO YOURSELF that are accurate and kind. 3. Create and recite an affirmation each morning, specific to you, detailing you deserve happiness. 4. Take an action towards your goal. BEST PRACTICES and WISHES to us ALL!

Thank you, my dear. It's Christmas Eve morning and I'm laying in bed planning out my baking tasks for tomorrow's brunch with my daughter, the only family I interact with anymore because of the abusive gaslighting my sister who's favorite motto is "" Suck it up, buttercup " when she would openly disrespect my feelings. She's pretty much invalidates me to the rest of the family to the point where I'm not even included to anything she participates in. It's been a long journey building a new life for myself and I think this " High Five will be the icing on the cake. Thank you.

About being respectful but I’ll see it works when the shoe is on the other foot when I already hear so much negative anyways about this relationship..I don’t trash myself it’s what I hear about my relationship.. all the negative remarks from my guy that’s all I hear that I’m not accepted from his family and friend.. that they’re so much better.. when who are they to judge me when they’ve never met me & who are they to feel they are so much better than the next person! Why? Is segregation! Because of money! Nobody will try to make me feel less than! Nobody! I chose somebody else over you because of money! Is what I was told! As if I’m not good enough because of a dollar! I’m just the total opposite! But they said I need to stay positive! How can I? Don’t know if they are good for around! Nobody has ever tried to make feel less than or bring me down ever in my life of living.. I’ve never experienced anything like this... not healthy for me!

I'm having a hard time. I need to see son. I need my name cleared. I've been getting into trouble by what everyone else did. I've never done anything wrong to anyone. I've always been a solid friend. I've never gave anyone up. Only for them to put their flats on me. And I always get cut down.. it's my birthday today. I can't even call my son. Without facing a 7 year prison sentence. For no reason. Except. My ex lying. And Mr Cooper. Drunk asshole. Wthey all lied . I hate it. Then I totally love this girl, and my broken wing, narcissist who truly needs help. I can't just abandon her. But she sabatoged my relationship with the girl that I love so much. And I'm in big tribal because of it, my broken wing is so mentally abousive to me. It sucks so bad. The girl that I love thinks I'm something that I'm not. And I can't even call her either without facing criminal charges. So the 2 People that I love the most. I can't see. And for no good reason other than other people's lies.... I'm fine already. A few hours ago I wanted to kill myself. I'm already back on point. Except that she is trying to break me down right now. "To be seen, heard, celebrated, accepted for the unique individual you are" To experience love, safety, security. All of this eluded me much of my life. . When Mel listed examples of how we tell ourselves we're not enough, it made me uncomfortable. Those thoughts of doom got to me, so I had to skip ahead. Luckily I don't do negative self talks like I did when I was young, but it's stressful just hearing it. I've used the strategy to snip useless thoughts and redirect w positivity and acceptance, but advice from someone like Mel makes it more powerful. Someone with authority validates these methods work. I've been super motivated implementing them. Love it. Love Mel.

I am a coward. I’m fucking afraid of the dark. That’s why I put a profile pic of me looking tuff. This is the first time I’ve ever….ever admitted this. It’s fucking hard to say. But, I say it because….. I’m not that guy anymore. Ma’am. Thank you for your teaching. I’m literally typing this with tears in my eyes. I will walk out who I was created to be. I will high five myself every morning and I will count down from 5 when my alarm goes off and actually get up before I hit the snooze. Thank you. Ya know my son is in the Navy. He is in aviation rescue swimmer, now soon to be a Navy seal. When I said I’ve never admitted to be a coward, I even fooled my kids. Today is my watershed event. I’m so excited for what’s ahead. I own a tile and marble installation company. But today your reading the writings of the future, americas most creative and competent tile installer. Cheers!!

I still struggling with major depression and gad and medication that is not working much and might have to go on a new medication. I have tried many over the years and nothing has helped me much. I have had major depression and anxiety as a kid. Some genetic, some enabling and also alot of physical, mental and sexual abuse. 9 years ago I had a full hysterectomy and I spiraled again and all my future fears that I had since childhood is there and I am now too weak to do amything. I pray often for God to take me but he takes others that don't want to go instead. I have no dreams. I am 55 and terrified of aging alone and haven't been able to work in awhile and financially stressed. I am worth more dead than alive. We might lose everything because I can't work.

May I carve, "You Are Absolutely Correct" on that wood beam behind you? BTW - I have been using the 5,4,3,2,1.... advice for two months now and it has helped GREATLY. sometimes the simplest adjustments make the larger impacts. This latest information is an excellent way to "pile on" for even better improvement.

This is gonna make you cringe but when I high five myself in the mirror, the one thing I notice is I mess up my mirror with a hand print. I don’t know if anyone else doesn’t touch the mirror with the high five but I need the touch factor.

I was going to comment "bingo!" Immediately but then I thought "hold on" and keep listening. Sooooo I did. Glad I didn't text immediately. There's SO MUCH "bingo", 🎯 bull's-eye and "spot on" not to forgot "true dat!". WONDERFUL especially about giving to those relatives (or whatever relationship you desire to see improve) the needs you do not get from them. We all need and must see they (human) need.
