This is a great video. Now I finally understand why I have pain that FEELS like trigeminal neuralgia but it can only be reproduced by palpation of structures in my neck.

Wow. This is one of the best videos you guys have put together. Thanks for the visuals. I guess the Trigeminal Nucleus is like the London’s Waterloo station where so many trains converge. Could this also be the reason why so many blows to the face & head result in concussions in MMA/Boxing and fumbles in Rugby & Football (American version)?

This is exactly what I have except mine comes with EXTREME NAUSEA AND HEAT, it makes me sweat profusely unless I lay in front of a fan and let my muscles relax and it will go away. Five years ago these migraines used to happen once a day but now I understand that my movements are the triggers and I am having multiple migraines a day. I can't sit for long or tilt my head down nor rock in a chair nor can I lay on on my right side.

My headache comes on when I lay down to go to sleep... Then a tingle in my left cheek and a burning sensation in my nose... Then the most horrendous pain above my left eye that's lasts maybe 2minutrs but the whole rigmarole from tingle to pain is about 30minutes. It only happens when I'm layed flat or sat with my elbow resting inside my thighs for too long. If I move when I first get a tingle I can stop the headache from developing 🤷🏼‍♂️

I have Pulsatile tinnitus (really loud tinnitus synchronized with my heart rate) and cervicogenic headache. I thought it was occipital neuralgia since the pain is in back of the head, neck always in pain, and my headaches are every single day from the moment I wake up till I go to sleep, since February! The headaches are persistent and no migraine meds or botox helped at all. Al these ailments all started recently. I don’t know if the headaches are causes by the Pulsatile tinnitus since the jugular has compression of arteries or veins in the neck causing my inner ears to hear my own pulse. I hope to get help soon

Thanks for the videos! I have had patient with jaw pain that was reproduced via palpation in the mid-lower cervical spine (C5-6 area). Any thoughts on potential referral mechanisms? If it helps, the patient improved symptoms with manual therapy and exercise.

Have you heard of a manipulation technique to C0, C1,C2,C3 that can help headache sufferers and can it possibly help patients with post concussion syndrome?

Here's an interesting question: Can referred pain cause swelling in the area it's referred to? Let's say I get referred pain in my left cheek. Can that cause swelling in my left cheek??
@Rene-uz3eb
@Rene-uz3eb 2 жыл бұрын
Why would the brain make a projection mistake to the more innervated area ie C5? In normal function there never is a 'projection mistake', you know exactly which nociceptor axon the pain comes from. Real referred pain is not a projection mistake, it's simply activating a specific nociceptor axon along its path, as opposed to at the nerve ending. That's why nerves for the hand, say, that are inflamed at where they meet the spinal chord (because of a herniating disc) instead of the hand itself, still feel as if the hand hurts. Also, if the ophtalmic nerve were 'projected', your cornea, eyes, and skin would hurt. Otherwise I can ask again, if the ophtalmic nerve is affected, why doesn't the skin hurt then? It can't be specifically projecting to just the areas that can more easily be confused with a headache, like the eyeballs, right? When you get a true opthalmic headache, it's because something is triggering the deep eyeball nociceptors, not the skin on the forehead that's also innervated by the opthalmic nerve. 'cervicogenic headache' as a description of the cause of some headaches is only a flawed hypothesis and has never been substantiated beyond the described logic. Also it is very possible a person can have chronic cervical pain and headaches, I don't think anyone has even shown correlation between the two. One can easily see that cericogenic headache is considered an abstruse idea by most. The only paper supporting the existence of CEH cited reasonably well is Cervicogenic Headache: A Real Headache, 2011 And reading a few pages you can see it is mostly a political diatribe of how nobody supports their notion, the authors have no idea what a medical research paper is, bunch of jokers. The top paper on cervical headache wrt citations and ranking states "Unfortunately, the paucity of experimental models for cervicogenic headache and the relative lack of biomolecular markers for the condition mean much is still unclear about cervicogenic headache and the disorder remains inadequately treated." "Cervicogenic headache is a relatively common and still controversial form of headache" Cervicogenic headache, 2004 I think a question remains, if patients see that neck pain triggers or worsens a headache, what is he connection? Cervical neck pain may simply be a migraine trigger, or a signal that a headache is about to happen (due say to some vascular changes) rather than be causative. At least I do not buy the nerve projection theory one bit. A guess of mine would be deep vein thrombosis as the underlying cause of both the headache and neck pain: Migraine‐like visual phenomena associated with cerebral venous thrombosis, 1989 Hypercoagulability and Migraine, 2017 Patients with inferior vena cava thrombosis frequently present with lower back pain and bilateral lower-extremity deep vein thrombosis, 2013. And lastly, drugs, for example corticosteroids also promote clotting: Drug-Induced Thrombosis-Experimental, Clinical, and Mechanistic Considerations, 2007

This is one of the causes of cervicigenic HA, but also remember that as you said, it can also be caused by neck issues that affect te cervical plexus, specially behing de SCM where the greater auricular, the lesser occipital and the transverse cervical nerve can be compressed. Those 2 factores are essential to establish a good diagnose. Greetings. :)

So thus, a chiropractor and acupuncture therapy to treat?
@TheHadesShade
@TheHadesShade 2 жыл бұрын
Personally I would prefer a manual therapist because chiropractors repeat the manipulation on the same structure several times over, and if it's done right there is no bonus to repeat it after the first succesful manipulation. There is only an increase in risks. Secondly, they often do it very quickly and very strong (very high velocity), more than manual therapist do, so the risk of strain is more likely. Thirdly, manual therapist only do a traction type manupilation on the high cervical structures, maybe in a rotation position and then a traction manupilation. This all makes the treatment a lot more evidence based, safer, less painfull, less risk of stroke and more patient friendly. Of course there still are good chiropractors and bad manual therapists. But I'd opt for a manual therapist and not a chiropractor.

I have found help from acupuncture, if 2x or 3x a week. If you have a "community acupuncture" clinic near you, the cost is not high and it's very relaxing, just takes about an hour per session.

Hey so I've a cervicogenic headache since like 2 months. It's exactly like a ram's horn and seems to be triggered by the position of my neck. So whenever i sleep on my stomach with my neck facing one side , the headache comes outta nowhere. And what's weird is that i'm also getting these electric shocks or tingling in random areas of my head and face. I've been freaking out honestly. Can we please talk ?
