Great video. I lived in Japan for 12 years and yes, you spent above average on accommodation. Japan isn't as expensive as most people think especially if you're from an expensive city and country like mine (Vancouver Canada) so you can find nice hotels for almost half the price. Nice breakdown of prices you did there. Wish more travel channels would do this.
@BrianVelez2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for breaking down the pricing of your trip! Gives my wife and I a better idea as to how much to expect when traveling. I couldn't help but realize that included in this pricing wasn't the cost of traveling to the country which of course varies depending on where you are located and traveling from. Easy to say, from Miami to Japan for a similar to week stay, we will be spending close to $6,000. I better start making more content. 😅

This is quite accurate, I didn't find Japan expensive. Local food is priced very well for the quality of food you get. Also visit supermarkets for already prepared meals because you'll find a great variety of healthy food that doesn't have to be reheated or require refrigeration if you plan on eating it the same day. Also not sitting down for lunch and some dinners allowed us more time for other activities. However, there are so many beautiful and wonderful things to buy in Japan, local arts and crafts so as long as you practice restraint, Japan is a great value for the experience!!!

Used Agoda for reservations last year. Saved almost $1,300 in hotel rooms in 6 months. Some even with 1 month of travel, while still staying at the same hotel and same room. Planning way in advance makes it easier to save money before going. Convenience stores, bakeries are great ways to reduce your food costs, for breakfast especially. If you are taking long trips on the bullet train, a rail pass of some sort is better as you will save money on any of the JR trains. Saved about 27,000 yen on a 2-week green car travel by buying the pass. Still also had Pasmo card for other trains and buses in towns.

We tend to spend more on hotels, but less on food in Japan. When I was younger and traveling child-free, I was less picky about hotels, but with a child I prefer a larger room, since mine tends to get up very early. I too use Booking, but also look at the Japanese websites for most hotels to see if there is a better offer. In February 2020, I managed a Jr Suite for ~21,000 yen per night with tax. The room was enormous and had a great Mt. Fuji view as well as a very convenient location. I find Kyoto has a lot of really nice hotel rooms for 9000-15,000 yen a night. I really enjoyed my stay at the Associa in Takayama. It costs more than where you stayed, but has two floors of onsen included in the price. One thing to note, usually when people refer to Mt. Fuji, they are referring to the Kawaguchiko area where Mt. Fuji is actually accessible vs. Hakone.
