Yugi not attacking Kaiba is a moral choice. His grandfather's situation was someone else's doing, a tragedy so to speak; while the decision to attack and risk Kaiba's life was entirely in Yugi's hands. So, if you are willing to sacrifice a life to maybe save another life, you are simply doing the villain's (Pegasus) function, and that is what Takahashi was showing with that scenario. This is his philosophy. Yugi may have been weak at this point, but his choice was the right choice. Yu-Gi-Oh! is a story about how both Yugi and Atem learn from each other to be better people.

I chose him because he shares a lot of similarities with Joey's father: -He looks almost identical to Joey's dad (the big boots and the hairstyle). -He's an alcoholic, just like Joey's father. -He plays with luck-based cards, reflecting Joey's father being a gambler. So, symbolically, Joey's final duel in Duelist Kingdom against Keith represented him overcoming and defeating his father.
