In Halo: Silent Storm, a Sangheili officer states that High Charity's defense fleet was a dozen times larger than his own fleet of around 100 ships. So the number is approximately 1,200.
@davehale39926 жыл бұрын
MrMcp1995 you should also compare that number to the fleet at reach.
@Baikanon6 жыл бұрын
It seems like there’s still a large margin of error there; if the officer’s fleet is closer to 90 than 100, that drops the fleet size closer to 1,000. And he could mean 11 times, but a dozen just rolls of the tongue easier (proverbially speaking). That said, I think it’s pretty clearly around 1,000, with a margin of error on either size.

If we assume that each carrier would be operating within a strikegroup, and taking this convenient guesstimate of 2:5 so let's say each battlegroup has 2 carriers, 5 cruisers, and then a contingent of supporting frigates and screening vessels perhaps eight to ten in total. A hundred individual battlegroups would quickly mass up to about 1700 total ships. Two hundred CAS super-carriers, five hundred cruisers, and about a thousand smaller ships. But then again, the force distribution of Covenant naval assets isn't totally clear. Maybe they don't use that much in the way of screening or support vessels for their capital ships. Even with a ratio closer to 2:5:5 that still gives us roughly 1200 ships in total and about 700 total capital ships.
@scytheseven91736 жыл бұрын
Perhaps he was referring to tonnage instead of just ship number, as it could have been something like eight times the number of ships but with larger ships making up the fleet.

Apparently supercarrier is a term that applies to ships over a certain length. It actually includes CAS Assault Carriers. Also the spine of High Charity also played host to thousands of Energy projectors (Lances of the Faithful) so on top of the massive fleet, High Charity was rocking absolutely stupid amounts of firepower.
@captainmauser85276 жыл бұрын
Halo Mythos says that High Charity has 8,930 Umbilical Tethers on it. Also only Cruisers and Carriers seems to be questionable as during a few of the books it mentioned Destroyers, Frigates, and many other craft being in and around High Charity too.

Prehaps, but it said "hundreds of ships from thousands of worlds." The rest would account for visiting fleets and its personal fleet which, as we saw in a terminal can stay in High Charities dome as well, further increasing its capacity. As a side note I hope we get to see the Covenant version of Seawise Giant. That thing should be bigger than a CSO as should any Covie cruise ships, other mass bulk ships, and rescource transports for an Empire that advanced and vast.

What many people seem to miss is that until Installation 04 was destroyed, the Covenant (as a whole, not the Hierarchs, since they knew why they had declared war in the first place) didn’t consider humanity a serious threat. They sent a number of fleets our way but the everyday life of most members of the Covenant weren’t affected by the war at all; we were just another bug to squash that they paid some attention to on their path to salvation. The exact number of Covenant warships in active use was absolutely staggering, but because they didn’t consider us worth the effort and they’re fleet was so extremely spread out, it didn’t make sense to go all-our war on us. I’d also mention that having hundreds of CSOs isn’t impossible or even unlikely. In Silent Storm we see that the construction of CSOs wasn’t exactly as significant or limited as we once thought, since the Covenant seemed hardly bothered by its destruction instead caring about the orbital station encircling the planet that was destroyed. That said, it seems like they weren’t used in the High Charity defense fleet, instead being spread out across the empire’s sphere of influence as the flagships for major territorial control fleets far from High Charity
@tristanbackup25366 жыл бұрын
This! People forgotten that the Covenant is massive with thier sphere of influence easily goes around 2000+ light years. Basically they owned the entire orion arm, hundreds of clusters. Humanity barely has 60 light years maximum of controlled space of one cluster or two & we were getting a*se kick handicapped. Work that out with how many solar systems within that controlled space with resources & the means of manufacturing, the number of ships easily have to be 10,000+ at minimum along with a minimum of 1000 at High Charity alone. The games & books only showed a fraction of the number of ships & fleets.
@turtle50865 жыл бұрын
I dont think thats necessarily true if at all because the covenant believe it or not did suffer ALOT against their campaign against the humans including MANY ships. Considering it wasnt uncommon for covenant to suffer more naval losses then the unsc ranging from 20 to 500 ships being lost in a naval strike. This even led to turmoil within the covenant near the end of the war, as to the why the war was even necessarily in the first place because of the extreme loss of assets, resources, ships men etc.. against an enemy that proved more then worthy to be apart of their empire. By the end of the war the covenant or what was left of them was essentially nothing in comparison to what they where, like they had nothing to compensate for them after high charity since almost all of it was wiped out by humanity.
@ROFLobster48845 жыл бұрын
It’s worth mentioning that by the time the human-covenant war ended, between the battle with humanity, the schism and the flood, almost nothing remained of the Covenant navy. The few remaining warlords that could still use them, mostly pulled them from mothballed depots or mutinied crews fleeing the schism/humanity. Either a whole lot of them got destroyed by humanity, or they didn’t have as much as we thought to begin with. Considering between Admiral Cole’s last stand and the crew of the Gettysburg destroying the entire Earth invasion fleet... probably a thousand covenant ships were destroyed, I’d venture to say they very well knew they were taking too many losses against humanity.
@MrBlue999123 жыл бұрын
I agree with this, our single solar system combined probably has 30× the resources earth has humanity had 2000 ships at the beginning of the war so they had the numbers for the little decisive victories and built at least around a thousand more it was probably individual administrations as we know the covenant wasn't a fully unified centralized state it was religious cross species alliance or coalition it had individual governments administrations planetoids had they're own mini society's and rules the covenant had septuple the resources humanity had best estimate is between 3000 to 6000 they had ships protecting every solar system it was probably administrations and planets debating fighting humanity or not they did have problems with rebellions and revolts and heretic factions every administration government and planet colony wanted control over the great journey there was infighting why waste ships and armies on a pest civilization when you have constant internal struggles rebels and power hungry leaders if they really wanted they could send a massive flotilla and destroy humanity don't forget they were also looking for artifacts across the galaxy always searching and we know that it was only a anti piracy administration that mainly fought against humanity the only time they sent a huge invasion fleet with immense assets was at the fall of reach where the covenant actually took humanity as a threat the schism was across the Covenant empire not just a small rebellion the sangheili were the main backbone and leadership of covenant truth if not for the elites would wiped humanity out instantaneously it was a miracle that the covenant and truth lost at all it makes sense there are barely any working ships let alone shipyard factories the they were truly struggling before and during HC war the schism ended any industry and unity they had left genociding humanity wasn't because the elites couldn't take it they were focused on other issues and thought they would be better as a new soldier or slave species addition to the covenant they weren't worried about taking to many casualties or losing they didn't want to be stretched out even by a smidge bit
@cavefox1173 жыл бұрын
There is one thing to consider. The covenant lived mostly in habitats, artificial environments. Their aren't nearly enough worlds that are 100% naturally fully liveable. And they have shown an extreme lack of ingenuity. So while their Empire was large, it was hollow. Permanent planets to live on give a much greater power base than a statbase or ship. Because without the prophets most of their tech breaks down. Otherwise the Covenant would not merely have crumbled as quickly as it did.

I strongly disagree with the assertion that it would only have a single CSO supercarrier. The Fleet of Valiant Prudence, (as much as I think making it a separate fleet from Particular Justice makes no sense) was basically just an expeditionary archaeological recon fleet of small enough size to be unnoticed by the Reach Orbital Defense network and it had a CSO. I'd expect at least 1 CSO per sub-fleet in the High Charity Defense fleet, perhaps as many as 2-3 per.
@assistantmagus52136 жыл бұрын
I'm sceptical they even had that many. We only know of about 3, and granted they would've rather used them to defend high charity than attack us, I doubt they had more than around 10 total during the war, certainly during the schism pretty much all were destroyed, but i think if they had quite a few the war would've went a bit differently, especially since they likely would've been under elite control

@ONEIL3116 жыл бұрын
@thatguyyousawinasda exactly they are flag ships. The high prophets would each have one because regret had one. So there is 2. The elite council leader would have one because he’s the supreme commander of the covenant military. Plus the internal politics of the time. So there is 3 and arbiter had his taken away in the beginning of halo 2 and that was given to tartus by truth and taken to delta halo which was then stolen by the ship master during the last missions of halo 2. So there is at least 4 during the events of halo 2 maybe 5 because regrets carrier wasn’t destroyed that we know. Defense and offense doesn’t matter. We are talking about a highly militarized covenant where military power is based on class. You’re telling me when the elites council leadership wouldn’t have one or the high prophets? They are a symbol of power and theses leaders wouldn’t go anywhere without them.
@assistantmagus52136 жыл бұрын
@@ONEIL311 Except if regret did have one he didn't use it himself, nor was it a part of his fleet. I don't think they would have one each because they were used solo to attack/scout reach etc. I believe the halo 2 thing you mentioned isn't in the game, we never see one during halo 2. and to my knowledge there wasn't one at delta halo either. Regret's carrier wasnt a supercarrier. The wiki says multiple defended high charity, but im not sure where that came from because im pretty sure it wasnt there last i checked and im not sure if theres a source, theres only two names supercarriers that we know of and they were both destroyed before the great schism.

Galactic versus suggestion: Rakatan infinite empire vs the flood. I think the infinite empire is one of the only factions in star wars that could stand a chance against the flood due to a combination of lack of galactic advancement at the time resulting in hyperspace technology being far less common inhibiting the initial infection, and the infinite empire's unique characteristics like being comprised entirely of force users that would rapidly detect the floods presence. The biggest thing is however, the fact that unlike every other faction, the Rakatan's can match the Flood's rate of production. A single star forge is capable of mass producing weapons of war at a rate that is at the very least equal to, if not greater than, the entirety of the old republic at the time. I also do not believe that the Rakatans would stop at one forge in this instance, one is certainly enough to police their empire, but when faced with the flood I believe that they would rapidly produce as many as possible in order to outproduce the flood. Whether by making an ever expanding and impenetrable maginot line, or by overwhelming and fully blockading every individual system, I think the Rakatans would eventually win a war of attrition. The only way I can see the flood winning this, is by a combination of dumb luck and extremely precise strategy, or by technological advancement. By technological advancement I mean the possibility of the flood forming key minds and later what I call "ascendant minds", which are to the key minds what the key minds are to the graveminds, and using them to facilitate their own advancement in technology to the degree that they can create weapons powerful enough to take on the quite literally infinite military of the infinite empire.

Cylons (second war) vs UNSC (2525 era) Edit for the video: I would give about 1000-2000 (maybe 1200-1500) ships, with in excess of five CSO supercarriers and many more carriers and cruisers. The Halo wiki states that the Second Fleet of Homogenous Clarity "numbered in the thousands of warships". This, to me, seems quite reasonable as the Covenant are stated to have as many as ten-thousand ships in their overall navy.
@GHawkinsOneSix6 жыл бұрын
I think that's a pretty easy one depending on how you actually want to play it; Scenario 1: Total win Cylons because they would effectively be able to win an AI fight against those of the UNSC. And even though a UNSC AI is a powerful one, the Cylons are effectively living AIs. Once the Cylons win the AI battle, they simply do as they did the Colonials and shut down the UNSC fleet. Since the UNSC AIs can have full control over all ship systems, it'd be a walk in the park for the Cylons to vent the atmosphere of all ships, turn the weapon systems of the ships against things they can't hack and win the day. Scenario 2: Total win UNSC, because the Cylons weren't able to defeat the UNSC AIs. If the UNSC AIs are able to counter the Cylon intrusion, the UNSC's ships could easily pulverise the Cylon fleet. The damage the Battlestar Pegasus did with its main battery against a Cylon basestar was spectacular, now consider almost every UNSC warship equipped with such a battery (its MAC gun). The Cylons have no countermeasures against the relatively slow moving slugs fired by Pegasus and Galactica. They sure won't be able to live long enough to regret that mistake when the slug is moving at 30 km/s.

Also most UNSC ai can’t do certain things without permission from a crew member. Countering the cylons infiltration “attempts” will as easy as pie for even a dumb ai.

Best mainline mech: UN Spacey(SDF Macross) Earth Federation(UC Gundam) The Clans(Battletech) Terran Dominion( Starcraft)
@CrescentGuard6 жыл бұрын
My read on that one: 1) UN Spacey 2) The Clans 3) Terran Dominion 4) Earth Federation Spacey's easy to explain: mobility advantage. Even if they hit lighter than the others, they're simply overwhelmingly faster (unless we're talking things like the Tomahawk, at which point we get into the ugly relationship between Battletech and Macross, and nobody wants that). Now, I could use several examples for the Clans, but for sake of argument, I'll use the Timber Wolf. It's heavily-armed with good long-to-mid-range firepower, fast, and heavily-armored. Now, it's hard to put a comparative pricetag on Starcraft units like the Thor, but the Thor is without question slower and probably more expensive than the Timber Wolf, without having significantly better weapons, especially at long range. If we talk smaller mechs, then that argument gets even worse, as the Battletech Shadow Cat or Storm Hawk would just trounce anything in a comparative weight class. The Viking is more versatile, but on the ground it would just be ground up and spit out by even a lightweight Clan mech. As for Gundam, well... most mainline mobile suits that aren't gundams are just bad. They generally have a single laser rifle and maybe some missiles if they're lucky. Both the Thor and Timber Wolf hilariously outgun most machines we'd be talking about, and they're generally pretty fragile by comparison. They *are* faster, but it's not the overwhelming contrast provided by Macross. That's just my view though, I'm all for other arguments.

it could have like 200-300 cruisers and carriers but that skips out on all the support vessels like destroyers frigates corvettes and non combat types - transports food/resupply ships if there was say 100 carriers then 2 cruisers per carrier (+200 (and the total of 200-300 cruisers and carriers)) then there could be 1 destroyer per cruiser (+200) then say 2 frigates per destroyer (+400) then finally 2 corvettes per frigate (+800). I'd say around 1700 total combat warships isnt an unreasonable guess. No matter what number of heavy capital ships I would give a force loadout of 1 carrier 2 cruiser 1 destroyer 2 frigate 2 corvette as that removes all possible gaps that could exist in a pure big gun fleet so if 300 carriers then adjust the rest as necessary

While it's true that the battlegroups wielded by Thel 'Vadamee at Alpha Halo (12 CCS-class Battlecruisers) and by Regret at Earth (13 CCS-class Battlecruisers, 2 CAS-class Assault Carriers) didn't include escort vessels, the Halo Fleet Battles game shows us that most standard Covenant Battlegroups, notably the Oathsworn and Harbinger battlegroup-types, contain about a 2-1 ratio of Heavy Corvettes to capital ships.

I would say the fleet probably numbered around 1200 ships, ranging from frigates, CPV destroyers (we know the covenant loved those), CCS class and many others. Plus there would be the agricultural ships (we know the small battlegroup that followed the Pillar of Autumn had at least one of those, and that fleet was probably around 20 ships max. Cortana mentioned there was around 4 clusters of 3 CCS class cruisers. So the low number would be 1000 ships guarding High Charity up to 1200 ships. I also think there's at least 3 CSO class supercarriers, which makes one for every 400 ships. Man now I want to see a blur cutscene of the battle over Delta Happy when the flood and great schism took place. Over a thousand ships firing pulse turrets, torpedoes, fighters engaging each other as flood ships ram into the uninfected elite and brute ships to spread. A small group of destroyers over the ring glassing it and struggling as they get overwhelmed by the flood. (I'm talking about that awesome battle in the beginning of Ghosts of Onyx)

I can't remember the exact words, but there was something in Halo: Shadow of Intent (from Halo: Fractures) that mentioned the fleet combat during the schism and fall of High Charity to the Flood. The way it was spoken made it seem like Jiralhanae ships outnumbered Sangheili by ~1.5:1, and I *think* they mentioned a rough estimate of the number of ships in combat. I'd have to re-read it to get a better idea of it.

Going by with games only, the fleet that destroyed Reach was described as twenty times bigger than the fleet of 15 that attacked Earth. I.e. 750. So the High Charity defence fleet by Cortana’s description was noticeably larger. I always thought it was at least 1,000.
@JKSSubstandard6 жыл бұрын
According to the canon I can find, the High Charity Defense Fleet is composed of several fleets at any time. The primary fleet is the Second Fleet of Homogeneous Clarity and is quoted as being "numbered in the thousands". Typical covenant fleets number 60-100 ships. From this, it can likely be assumed that at any given moment, there are ~800-1000 warships around high charity plus support ships

I don't normally comment, but I thought I'd toss this out there. In Halo 2, when Regret's fleet arrives at Earth, Admiral Hood states "Something's not right. The fleet that destroyed Reach was fifty times this size!" From what I can find, there were 15 ships in Regret's fleet. That would put the fleet that destroyed Reach at around 750 ships. Now, he could have been exaggerating to emphasize his surprise at how small Regret's fleet was, but I'm sure his guess would've still been in the ball park. With that value in mind, I think the fleet around High Charity could easily be in and around 1500+ ships, considering Cortana's line about that being the biggest fleet before all ships had exited slipspace. Also, when they said the fleet consisted of "hundreds of ships," do you think phrasing it as fifteen hundred (1500) would count? I know it's semantics, but it's the only way I can rationalize that bit of information. Anyhoo, that's just how I came to the conclusion the fleet is larger than 800 ships.

Halo: How many ships would you like? High Charity: Yes
@Meravokas6 жыл бұрын
Honestly, with what we can see and then estimate just off of visuals alone from the first opening Covenant cut scene in Halo 2 and what we can't see (visuals in space are hard to obtain) as well as the fact that in game when High Charity jumps in, the game has them continuing to spawn in without withdrawing anything, I think we can actually assume that the numbers are a fair bit higher than eight hundred. As there would be no point in using extra resources if you weren't trying to bring the point home. You also have to remember than while the CCS class is the most common ship in the fleet, it is not the only cruise class ship. By the time First strike was written, the Destroyer class had not yet been introduced in lore, and honestly in the defense of the capital, I'd easily give them at LEAST 2 two battleships, which outside of the CSO (Or, the one off plot device as it really is) is the single largest and most powerful ship in the fleets and armadas. While not seen explicitly in many of the game's cut scenes, we know from ship classes, most Covenant battle groups were support structured. CCS Cruiser, Destroyers and corvettes on the average. As many forces were simply large 'scout' forces looking for human worlds. My personal guess is that while it seems 'extravagant' to say there are over a thousand ships within the home defense fleet, I'd say with the level of material, industrial power and force projection nature of the Covenant. It's not ridiculous to say that High Charity has even upwards of two thousand ships for dedicated defense.
@CragynosII5 жыл бұрын
This is also assuming we're only counting deployed ships. High Charity could easily house hundreds of CRS light cruisers and SDV-class corvettes in the gap between the center spine and the edge of the bottom of the dome, as well as perhaps 50 carriers and hundreds of CCS cruisers. If somehow, any of the composite fleets were thinned or destroyed, I would imagine the Covenant would have the foresight to keep a healthy number in reserves.

Based on scaling it makes sense that most ships you can see from halo 2 from the Regret mid mission cutscene you showed us are actually CSO super carriers since you can actually see them and they seem pretty large next to high charity while the rest of the fleet is so small that it's practically invisible to the human eye. 2:14

I would say that the Fleet, or Fleets, comprising the High Charity Defense Fleet would contain numbers more or less what you had stated in the video. More than the numbers seen at Reach, but most likely less than what many people would expect, and the ships would comprise the best of every cast within the Covenant. Though there is an argument for the Defense Fleet only containing a few hundred ships (

Covenant at its strongest? Easily a thousand, however likely to be more. CCS and CAS are for sure the most common ships we see however But thanks to halo: Fleet Battles we know at the time of the fall of Reach (when the Covenant was at its strongest) consisted of the following at a minimal: CPV, CCS, RCS, SDV, ADP, DSC, CAS and ORS class. We also know thanks to the conflicts at Harvest and Reach there are several class of capital ships that we never see, including the DDS class carrier, unknown Super-destroyer class, and unknown Battleship class, the CAR class frigate and several as of yet unknown vessel types. It is presumed that there are at least several of these vessels despite only being seen once for each of them. With the Battleship class outgunning the CAS by a factor of several energy projectors. And it is only logical that several if not more of these powerful vessels were part of the High Charity Defense fleet. And presuming that each fleet was initially a member fleet of the High Charity Defence fleet and each fleet consisting of between 15 (Fleet of Sacred Consecration) and 500+ (Unyielding Hierophant fleet) vessels. It's easy to determine that fleets on offensive duties during the Human Covenant war most likely would've been constituents of the High Charity Defense Fleet.

#AskEck Ever since the release of the new Star Wars trilogy, I've noticed something that makes no sense, in other words: a plot hole. It's to do with the blue lightsaber that was owned by Anakin Skywalker, then by Luke, and now by Rey. If you remember in Star Wars episode V, Luke loses the blue lightsaber when Darth Vader cut off his hand, and both the saber and his severed hand felling into the gas giant planet of Bespin. We even see it in the movie itself. Then in episode 7, the lightsaber is found and in one piece, with no explanation of where or how the saber survived. If you know about gas giant planets, they are planets that have no solid surface, and have a center where it's so molten hot it that can vaporize pretty much anything. So my question is "Do you agree that the blue lightsaber surviving is a plot hole"?

Hey Eck! I have a theory about why the MC 85 heavy cruiser: The Raddus is so underpowered: sometime during the New Republic cold war with the First Order, Resistance members managed to get a good scan of the Resurget class battlecruiser. The New Republic ignored the scan, but the Mon Calamari who saw the scan and were terrified of the number of weapons that the ship had decided they must create a ship that can counter the First Order ‘s battlecruiser. The Mc 85 should have the same or even a bit more heavy weapons as the resurgent class since the mon calamari knew that enemy fighter could have easily go clean through the advance shields and destroyed the ship inside out. They added a layer of concussion shield under the advance shield so fighters will just smash into it and get destroyed. The ship would have been powered by a Hypermatter reactor. So the Mon Calamari decided to launch this ship to the new republic, But that was the last straw for the NR so the gave out the disarmament measures. After the resistance and Mon Calamari begged the NR the NR allowed the resistance to keep the cruiser, but under a few conditions. The Mon Cala had to remove the reactor and replace it with a fuel-powered generator, remove most of its weapons, and remove the concussion shield. So basically the resistance was operating a piece of trash. But the Mon calamari may have hidden an MC-85 from the NR. I hope you could make a video on this but not mandatory. thx!

It is more than likely that the defense fleet for High charity had a core fleet but was also always bolstered by other fleets that were visiting it. Ships that are put in reserve due to not being needed could be brought to High Charity as it was the most important base for Covenant. Being so important for commerce and religious purposes as well there would be patrols and military fleets arriving and leaving constantly for vast number of reasons and each of those fleets and flotillas could be ordered to help defend High Charity if needed. I could believe the total number of warships near High Charity at any given time being well over 1000 though many of these would not be permanently assigned there. In this High Charity is similar to Eldar Craft worlds. Those too have a defense fleet that is nothing to sneer at but there are also Eldar corsairs and other fleets and lone ships always visiting the Craft worlds and therefore the amount of ships that they can muster for defense is much greater than just the defense fleet.

I would say 3 or four super carriers were at high charity during halo 2. Considering there were two high prophets and the elite council. Plus they strip arbiter of his rank and he was supremely commander of the war against the humans at the time. So I’m figuring 1 for each major figure. I think this is a solid estimate for the military assets but comes up short for the support fleet. The support fleet should easily push it over 1000 but they would not be combat effective. I also feel like given 200 CAS class ships we would see a higher ratio of corvettes, frigates and destroyers even though the CCS was the back bone of the fleet. Maybe a 4:3:2 ratio of 4 CCS, 3 misc ships (support, destroyer or corvette), 2 CAS class would be a little more accurate. Various sources (Halo Nation, Halopedia) are quick to list other classes present in fleets. This composition would result in 900 ships, which is still hundreds, but maybe drifting a little close to being called "nearly 1000" in the book.
