Peter Weir one of my favorite directors. I just pray that they one day do a Master and Commander 4K Atmos remaster and do it justice. Would be mind blowing and probably the best Atmos mix of all time.

I agree. It's always cool to get Atmos. Not every movie needs one, but it's cool to get. Also happy it's a great mix as well.

​@@Spider-Man1408Every 4K release could have Atmos, and it's always cool to have on a disc (even Disney At-Mouse tracks imo), just sometimes it's not really necessary. For example, it wouldn't really be much of a benefit if a movie like 12 Angry Men got an Atmos upgrade. But again, it's always nice when the effort is put in to upgrade a movie's audio track

Thanks Jeff! I feel every 4K release should have an GOOD Atmos upgrade/track because to me.. its about 1/2 of the reason for the rebuy of old/price of new 4K discs. Mark my words .. after we all buy these sub par 4k releases they will do (new&improved upgrades that now include a new "Upgraded Dolby Atmos Track" and we will be forced to rebuy yet again.

Funny enough, the 4K resolution is one of the lesser reasons why I buy 4K Blu-rays. HDR and Atmos/DTS:X upgrades are way more important, I think.

have to mention the superb music score which also serves the film the anthemic compositions giving it real emotional weight from three composers Burkhard Dallwitz, Philip Glass and Wojciech Kilar who did the score for Coppolla's Dracula.

The included regular Blu-ray is the old poor transfer. Pity Paramount didn't upgrade that too. Perhaps a reaction to the universal double dipping criticism of Paramount releasing 4k transfers on regular Blu-ray followed a year later by the 4K UHD disc. Be careful what you wish for!

I just watched a 2K stream at AMC+ and it didn't look bad. Must be a newer transfer than the 2008 Blu-ray! Enjoy!!

What we also need to compliment this is a 4k blu ray of “Man on the Moon” which has got to be one of Jim Carrey’s finest performances. I mean do we even have a blu ray of it as I still resort to watching an old DVD copy of it.

Yesterday It arrived on my shelf at home from ordering last month. I played it yesterday night and finished it today (because I was very tired of work, i fell asleep at almost the end). The std bluray is included in this package but I did not watched that. The 4K is an upgrade for the DVD I got many years ago. I can say that this is a very good picture quality Dolby Vision HDR (I prefere this over std HDR10 though). Awesome release!

What an amazing movie! This is one of those movies that should be remembered and talked about by more people. It's a really creative story and well acted/directed. Glad to hear the 4k is a good transfer. This 4k is on my wishlist.

You know the bit near the end with the TV voiceover explaining about the show - ‘Now in its thirtieth great year!’ etc? I could hear that bit on the video, but not on the dvd or blu ray. Has this been fixed on the 4K?

I watched Weekend at Bernie's, and the quality is HORRIBLE. It's like what you said, DVD upscales. There are quite a few early Blu-rays that simply don't have the quality you'd expect from a 45Mb/s 1080p video. Also, a lot of older Blu-rays use VC-1 instead of H.264 probably for licensing reasons, but the quality of VC-1 can cause blocking artifacts and other issues like MPEG-2. Not ideal. Even still, having _any_ Blu-ray edition is better than DVD. Because of the interlacing issue, and low resolution, Blu-ray is just _so_ bad. I can't watch anything on DVD because of it. The horrible quality is too distracting.

Regarding the audio, on my copy, the music drowned out the narrator of the TruTalk introduction. Granted, I don't even have a soundbar, let alone a full speaker setup, so maybe it's just a technical limitation on my end.

This movie really affected me as a young teen. NGL I thought for quite a while I was in a simulation like this, this scarred me pretty bad

Same! It’s funny because I actually hadn’t thought of this in quite a while, but I was like 10 or 11 or so back then and I used to occasionally think this about myself/my life as well… even before the movie came out😬 I didn’t really have a “word” for it back then (although “simulation” would’ve been a good fit had I known of it back then, lol…), and I never thought of it as a “TV show” or anything (iirc), but I do remember thinking everything all around me was “put on” most of the time, generally because it would legitimately feel that way fairly often, lol. But the thing that always *really* messed with me though, was that I only really started thinking about it around the time shortly before seeing the trailer😳 So naturally, when I saw the trailer, I thought it was “them” showing me something, or sort of “teasing” me in effect, especially since Jim Carrey was also my favorite actor at the time, lol (I was obsessed with The Mask and Ace Ventura 1&2). Crazy that a lot of us have all shared the same feeling at one point or another! Certainly makes for a great premise for a film, of which this is a perfectly executed version, in my opinion👍

@@RyanWard1987 that’s so interesting Jim Carrey was my favorite actor at the time too Ace, Dumb and dumber, I had seen the mask probably 100x. Not exaggerating lol. Yeah I remember feeling very troubled of the idea that everything was fake around me. It made me sick for years. Can’t express how deeply this movie had an affect on me. Now I’m going to by it on 4K lol full circle. Another thing is I grew up Mormon, served a 2 year mission and everything. Now I’m out, found out everything about Joseph Smith, Book of Mormon … found out it’s a fraud. I bring this up because a lot of ex Mormons reference this movie as their exit from Mormonism lol. So In so many more ways this movie has felt like my life. Thanks for listening. Appreciate your comments too.

Very interesting that The Truman Show has been a sort of “red pill” (or analogy for it if nothing more!) for a lot in the Mormon community, that’s wild! But yeah you also described the vibe/feeling way better than I did (plus how could I forget Dumb & Dumber?! I swear to you, I could quote *every single syllable* of that movie😂🤣 watched it at least a 2 times a week back then!) Full circle, indeed. I tried grabbing this at Walmart on release day and they told me it was an online only release. So I grabbed it from Amazon and sadly it just arrived with a damaged slipcover, a sticker on the back of the slipcover like it’s freaking GameStop and a broken case. Overall very disappointed with the shipping on this one
